Kate & Kay

Hello there!

So where do we start? We’re Kay & Kate, and we’re the creators of Pinch of Nom. We’re from a small town near Liverpool in the North, and we love food. A lot. So much so that it made us put on more weight than we were comfortable with. We’ll come to that in a moment! We’ve been together for many years, and fit the typical mad cat lesbian stereotype pretty well. We have two cats; Tatty cat and Ginger Cat. Both are beautiful, yet evil, creatures. We originally started a food blog that was definitely not Slimming World friendly! However, once we joined Slimming World, we decided to re-purpose the blog and turn it into what you see today.

Where We Started

Our Slimming World journey started in January 2016 & we’re blessed to have found such a supportive group and consultant. To cut a very long story short, we used to have a restaurant that we had to close due to a downturn in the economy. It was an incredibly upsetting time for us and we mourned the loss of making food with eating food. Needless to say, we really piled on the pounds across the span of around 5 years. But on one cold rainy Wednesday in January, we decided enough was enough and walked into our local Slimming World group and the rest, as they say, is history.

Our Journey So Far

Between us, we have lost nearly 12 stone (11st 7lb to be exact!) in total. If you’d have told me a diet could be quite this “easy” I’d have laughed in your face. I’m not going to lie and say that we’re never hungry, because we are! But there’s always some free or speed foods that you can gorge on and not feel the slightest bit guilty. Having a culinary background most certainly has helped our journey, as we’ve been able to keep food choices interesting. We really understand how hard it is to keep healthy food interesting, hence another reason for Pinch of Nom! We now work out for an hour every day, eat well and we’re full of beans. We’ve made small steps, and turning what would have seemed impossible to us last year, not only possible but part of our daily routine.

The Goal

Our goal is to live a bit longer. We both have a lot of weight to lose. We’d also like flying in a plane to be much more comfortable!

Top Tips

  1. Get yourself a food processor, measuring cups/spoons, a decent set of scales and be prepared to learn. Healthy food doesn’t have to be boring, but sometimes you need to put a bit of extra work in. These tools will help. A Lot.
  2. Don’t try and wing it. Keep a note of what’s in your fridge and freezer and plan. Eating on the Extra easy plan doesn’t have to be expensive, you just need to be smart, and plan ahead.
  3. You can still have nice, bad things… Sweets, chocolate, wine, takeaways – just save your syns. The Slimming World gods aren’t going to strike you down for ordering a chicken kebab at 3am on a Saturday! Even if you go over your syns, do as our consultant says and put a number on it and never feel guilty.
