What Is A Healthy Extra B?
Slimming World provides an allowance of some foods. This is to ensure that you have the correct amount of nutrients and an overall balanced diet of food. Slimming World provides a measure of these foods so you don’t overeat them.
Your Healthy Extra A choice concentrates on calcium levels. This comes mainly from milk and cheese intake. Your Healthy Extra B choice is about ensuring you have the right amount of fibre in your diet.
Many people just use their Healthy Extra B choice on bread, whether that’s slices of bread, a bread roll or wraps. However, there are so many alternative uses for your Healthy Extra B!
We’re going to take you through just some of the ways you can utilise your Healthy Extra B choice on foods other than just bread. We’re going to select just a few of our favourite alternative uses of your Healthy Extra B, it would take an age to list them all! Cereals – Alternative Uses For Your Healthy Extra B
Cereal is a fantastic way of getting your Healthy Extra B choice into your diet, especially if you like to use your Healthy Extras A and B in one sitting, when eaten with your Healthy Extra A allowance of milk.
There’s plenty of staple cereals that can be found in your Slimming World book that you can have on a daily basis. Who says cereal has to be just for breakfast?! There’s loads of our Facebook group members who much prefer it at night time. Why not?!
Kelloggs have recently added a brand new range of Granola-based cereals, and many of them are now classed as your Healthy Extra B choice.
Cereal Bars – Alternative Uses For Your Healthy Extra B
Cereal bars are another great way of having your Healthy Extra B allowance in a much more convenient fashion. You’re more than likely aware of Slimming World’s HiFi bars, which can be an alternative use for your Healthy Extra B.
However, it might be a week where you’re not going to a Slimming World group, or you might not attend a group at all. There’s plenty of other options when it comes to cereal bars and alternative uses for your Healthy Extra B.
Aldi have a range of their Harvest Morn Benefit cereal bars, which are both very reasonably priced and a very easy way of packing in your Healthy Extra B choice. With flavours such as Apple & Sultana, Chocolate & Fudge and Summer Fruits flavours, you can have two bars for your Healthy Extra B choice.
Cooked And Dried Fruit – Alternative Uses For Your Healthy Extra B
Here’s an alternative use for your Healthy Extra B that you may not have considered before. Cooking and drying fruit changes the structure of the fruit. The sugars contained within them act differently so it can’t be classed as a Free Food as raw fruit is.
It’s best to have a measured amount of cooked or dried fruit, which is why it’s classed as a Healthy Extra.
Dried fruit can make a great lunchbox addition, or to have on the go as a quick, sweet snack. You can find the measurements of how much dried fruit you’re allowed as a Healthy Extra in your Slimming World Love Food Love Food Optimising book.
Cooked fruit can make a great dessert on their own, served with some ice cream (remember to use your Syns!) or as an ingredient when cooking, they’re so versatile! You could recreate our Low Syn Apple Crumble and use part of your Healthy Extra B choice to reduce the Syns further.
Soups – Alternative Uses For Your Healthy Extra B
Some tins of soup can be used as a Healthy Extra B choice as well. There’s a whole list of them in your Slimming World Love Food Love Food Optimising book, but to be honest it’s possibly not the best use of your Healthy Extra B.
Tins of soup are great if youneed something quickly off the shelf on a rushed lunch break. However, many soups only allow half a can for your Healthy Extra allowance, which isn’t very much at all!
We’ve got lots of soup recipes that are so easy and quick to make, like our Syn Free French Onion Soup and our popular Syn Free Carrot and Butter Bean Soup. They can be made in batches and you can have them ready for your lunch break in no time. The best thing is, they’re completely Syn Free and allow you to enjoy your Healthy Extra B on something else.
Nuts And Seeds – Alternative Uses For Your Healthy Extra B
Last but by no means least, nuts and seeds provide brilliant alternative uses for your Healthy Extra B!
Nuts and seeds are delicious on their own as a snack! But they can be equally as tasty used as an ingredient or a finishing touch to a plate of food. For instance, you can have up to 14 Cashew Nuts as your Healthy Extra B choice. They could taste fantastic scattered across our 2 Syn Chicken Korma Curry to add that extra bit of texture.
You could also use your Healthy Extra B allowance of 11 Pecan halves as part of a dessert. They can be served on top of Synned ice cream or simply eating them one by one before you even get to the bowl, they’re delicious!
Nuts and seeds are packed with nutrients that can help cure your cravings if you’re getting a bit peckish. They can be packaged up into little Healthy Extra B portions and be had as a snack.
