We asked our Facebook Group members what their best advice for a stress free Christmas dinner, and as always they’ve come up with some fab advice!
Eat a good breakfast
Making sure you’re not hungry whilst preparing a big Christmas dinner is pretty key to avoiding all the tempting snacks.
It’s great to have something special for Christmas brekkie. This Syn Free Smoked Salmon, Potato Rösti and Poached Eggs recipe would make a great luxurious breakfast, whilst saving your Syns for later in the day!

One of the most popular pieces of advices from our Facebook Group was about preparation.
“Prep veg and freeze ahead. Make own cranberry sauce and make low syn pigs in blankets and freeze everything else is just a roast dinner”
Loads of our recipes for Christmas dinner can be made ahead and frozen:
- Half Syn Stuffing Balls
- Half Syn Pigs in Blankets
- Syn Free Broccoli Cheese
- Syn Free Gravy
- Syn Free Cauliflower Cheese
- Syn Free Buttery Carrot and Swede
Make sure you defrost fully and reheat until piping hot!
Prepping your veg the night before is also a great way of relieving a bit of the pressure on the big day. Peel your spuds, carrots and parsnips and leave in water overnight, cook these Sautéed Brussel Sprouts with Bacon the night before and reheat on the day.
You could even cook your turkey the day before, and then reheat in gravy on Christmas Day – this is particularly useful if you’ve only got a small oven as you can free up a whole heap of oven space!
It’s Christmas Day, it happens once a year, and it’s a time to have some fun and enjoy yourself.
Don’t let cooking dinner stress you out! One of the most common responses when we asked our Facebook Group for their Best Tips for a Slimming World Christmas Dinner was to not panic!
Another of our Facebook Group members suggested this great tip:
“Heat plates and serving platters, hot food on a stone cold plate is a miserable thing and you will eat too quickly if you are worrying it is going to get cold.”
If you’ve got a houseful of family and friends to cook for, don’t let them get away without helping.
Get them to lay the table, peel the spuds or stir the gravy. Best of all, make sure you delegate washing up duties, and give someone the most important job of keeping your glass topped up all day!

Not just timings but also Syns. Planning what you’re having an have a think about where you want to use your Syns for the day.
Syn Free Roast Potatoes are a great way of keeping your dinner Syn free, and they’re so good, no one will know that they’re Slimming World friendly!
“I’m thinking of doing a Syn free dinner so I can have treats in the evening, so that’s fry light roast potatoes, a Slimming World gravy, all veg and turkey, no pigs in blanket but will allow Syns for stuffing”
Our Syn Free Gravy is the perfect way to keep your meal as low Syn as possible!

“My top tip is to make sure that as much as possible is Low Syn or Syn Free, but without compromise. For example, making sure there’s loads of speedy veg on the table and using as little oil as possible. Not everything is going to be completely angelic, but it’s no effort to make some things as healthy as possible whilst still treating yourself”

Keep it simple

Keep it straight forward. Don’t feel that you have to prepare a separate meal for those non-Slimming Worlders – you can still have all your favourites without compromising on taste and luxury!
