Encona Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce Review | Slimming World

When first asked to try out some chilli sauce that was sent to Pinch of Nom to sample, it was a simple ‘You like chilli sauce don’t ya Michael?’ Why yes, yes I do. ‘This one’s a hot one’ I was warned. Yeah yeah, it’ll be fine. I’ll get to that bit later…

Bottle on Grass - Encona Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce | Slimming World

I’ve been summoned with the task of trying out the new Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce from Encona, absolute wizards of chilli sauces of all varieties.

The labelling makes no bones about the fact that it’s rather hot.

I’m usually sceptical about this sort of marketing, will it just taste hot for the sake of being hot? Is it just a gimmick? Let’s find out.

What does Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce taste like?

In a word? Hot. A few more words? Really, really spicy hot. I’d be very willing to just end it there, as I suspected I might, but I’m pleasantly surprised as to how beautiful this sauce tastes.

If you’re not into spicy food, then look away, this isn’t for you. However, if you welcome some smokey, hot spice into your dishes, step right in. I love how it isn’t just hot for the sake of it, Encona have managed to create something that’s really bloody hot, but really bloody tasty.

How many syns are in the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce?

It’s not on the database yet, but it works out at half a Syn per tablespoon using the calculator, and if you work out the Syns per teaspoon it comes out as Syn Free.

But trust me, if for nothing else, TRUST ME when I say you need a tiny amount.

I tested the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce as a dressing for a giant cous cous salad, and a 1/4 of a teaspoon was enough to introduce the smokey, spicy flavour to the dish. I probably could have afforded a tad more.

Considering how little you require, I would imagine that the syn value would be negligible.

How much is the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce?

The Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce costs £1.59, which is not too shabby at all. It’s also a great addition to your sauce collection, and definitely won’t be money wasted for a glass ornament for your cupboard!

Where can I buy the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce?

It’s exclusive to Tesco.

Would I buy the Limited Edition Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce again?

You know what, I would. I’d be more than happy to write that it’s OK and that I’d buy again, but I really enjoyed it.

Incredibly versatile, and most importantly the taste is so good. I’ve not tasted a chilli sauce that’s so hot, yet has so much taste. A bitter, smokey, strong, developing flavour that adds a very certain something to a dish.

As the bottle warns, this incredibly hot, and certainly not for wimps, but if you’re a bit of a spice fiend, then it’s certainly worth a go. Go forth, brave warrior.
