We’re back once more with a fantastic Motivation Monday story, aiming to show you real stories of weight loss journeys from people just like you!
In these Motivation Monday articles, we’re asking a series of questions to get an idea about how people approach their Slimming World journey, what obstacles they’ve faced, and how this has changed their life for the better.
This week it’s Jackie’s story that we’re focusing on. Jackie is 48 years old and has an 18 year old daughter.
Jackie is one of our Facebook group moderators and does an absolutely stellar job too!
Jackie is a classic case of someone who has tried all sorts of diets through her adult life, finally finding great results following the Slimming World plan.
We’ve asked her one or two questions to get a further insight into her Slimming World journey, and how it’s changed her life for the better.
When did you decide that enough was enough and you wanted start following Slimming World?
To be honest I’d been “dieting” most of my adult life, trying all sorts of weird and wonderful weight loss plans.
I felt constantly deprived and not managing to sustain them so kept telling myself I was just “big boned” while deep down knowing I actually just loved food.
I’d been talking to friends who were following Slimming World and knew they’d lost weight but when they told me you could eat as much pasta, rice & chips as you wanted and still lose weight!
I thought “Right this is it, last chance saloon. If this doesn’t work I’m giving up even trying.”
Did anyone influence you to start following Slimming World?
As I’ve said speaking with friends, one in particular & he’ll know who he is, really made me think if he can do this then why can’t I.
How did your first week go following the plan? Any surprises?
My first week was fab food wise and I was so excited to get on the scales to see my big results to only be totally disheartened and downright annoyed to find I’d only lost 1.5lb.
If it hadn’t been for the existing members who are now my Slimming World family, then I would’ve walked out that night and never returned.
I’m so glad I didn’t though. Our consultant is the best and so encouraging & keeps our group interesting & fun.
I’m now part of the social team & enjoy seeing others achieve their goals.
How much have you lost in total, and how long has this taken?
I’ve lost 2st 4lb in 7 months. I’ve been a Target Member since June 2015.
What was the reaction from friends and family when they started to notice you losing weight and following Slimming World?
My other half couldn’t believe how much I was eating and still losing weight!
They were all so supportive and my daughter even started trying foods she’d previously refused.
My Mum and daughter both ended up joining and Mum is also a Target Member, whilst my daughter is only a few pounds short of hers.
What’s the one thing about Slimming World you wish you knew before you started?
The amount and variety of foods you can eat and the fact you never have to feel deprived!
How has joining the Pinch of Nom facebook group and other social medias helped you with your Slimming World journey?
Pinch Of Nom has been a lifesaver!
When I was becoming bored of eating the same foods I stumbled upon the website and the Facebook group and never looked back.
So many recipes to try with new ones being added all the time. The inspiration of all our amazing members keep me motivated.
What’s your favourite Pinch of Nom recipe, why do you like it so much?
Am I supposed to choose only one?!
That’s so difficult when I have a huge list of favourites, but I do love the Syn Free Beef Ragu Fettuccine which can be done in the slow cooker and be ready for coming in from work or in the Instant Pot if I’m short of time.
The 2 Syn Chicken Korma Curry is amazing, and so much nicer than a takeaway.
Oh and I do like a dessert! The Low Syn Mississippi Mud Pie Cheesecake is so easy to make yet so indulgent. Sorry I knew I couldn’t pick just one!
What has been your favourite non-scale victory?
That’s easy! Sharing a wardrobe of clothes with my 18 year old daughter.
Lastly, what affect has joining Slimming World had on your life?
Slimming World has had a huge impact on my life.
Not only in how I feel about myself when I’m clothes shopping and then see pics of myself, but also the friends I’ve made through my SW group & Pinch of Nom has been fab.
I actually love life now, and I’m determined to keep it that way!
