Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 608,000 members it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Slimming World Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), but you can join up using the link below for the latest news and discussions on brand new Slimming World-friendly products.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
Every week we search the supermarkets and food websites to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
We try to find a range of Speed Foods, some Free Foods and a some different ways to use your Syns allowance in our Shopping Essentials round up.
Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Morrisons Strawberries 900g
The smell of fresh strawberries is irresistible, so when I caught the scent of these beauties in Morrisons, I had to grab some! Of course, strawberries are speed food, so perfect to enjoy anytime.
Strawberries just scream summer time. They are sweet and juicy enough to enjoy on their own, or you can use them to make delicious recipes like our Low Syn Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries!
They’re really attractively arranged, in a single layer to minimise bruising, which means they’ll stay fresher for longer.
This 900g tray of strawberries is available from Morrisons costs £3.65
Tesco British Rhubarb
We are right in the middle of rhubarb season at the moment. Several people have posted in our Facebook group asking for ideas on how to use it.
It would work really well in our Low Syn Apple Crumble recipe, just switch the apple for rhubarb and you have a super tasty dessert!
When eaten raw, rhubarb is a Speed Food, it’s an acquired taste – but don’t eat the leaves as they’re poisonous! Cooked rhubarb is pretty low in Syns, just 0.5 Syns per 100g, so it’s worth trying if you fancy something different.
You can even have 500g cooked rhubarb as a Healthy Extra B choice, although whether you’d want to eat quite that much is another story!
Tesco Indian Inspired Base Mix
We have featured several items from the Cooks Ingredients range in our Shopping Essentials round ups recently. Ready prepared, peeled and chopped frozen ingredients that speed up your cooking time.
This Indian Inspired Base mix would be ideal for curries, with it’s blend of diced onion, garlic, ginger and red chillis. It’s free when worked out using the Syns calculator.
ASDA Sweet Chilli Coleslaw Kit
When the sun’s shining and the barbecue is in full swing, it’s not just the burgers, sausages and kebabs that we need to think about.
Our delicious Syn Free Orzo Primavera Pasta Salad is a real crowd pleaser and easy to prepare in advance. We also have our own great recipe for Syn Free Coleslaw.
This Asda Sweet Chilli Coleslaw Kit is just 1.5 Syns on the Slimming World database for the whole 300g pack, which costs £1.00.
Vivera Veggie burgers
Vivera is a relatively new range to the vegetarian market, and we featured one of their products back in February in a Shopping Essentials article.
This time we have Vivera Veggie burgers. Seasoned vegetarian burgers made with rehydrated textured soya protein and red onion. Slimming World have listed these on the database at 1.5 Syns each.
If you’re a vegetarian, or you’re catering for one, this could be for you! They’re high in protein, a source of fibre, low in saturated fat and suitable for vegans.
Asda Butcher’s Selection Sweet Chilli Pork & Pepper Kebabs
In the last few Shopping Essentials articles, we’ve featured lots of barbecue friendly ideas. This week we’ve found some more! After all, summer weather means outdoor eating.
Most supermarkets have a range of burgers and kebabs that are great if you’re following Slimming World, including these Butcher’s Selection Sweet Chilli Pork and Pepper Kebabs.
Pork shoulder kebabs with mixed peppers and a sachet of sweet chilli sauce, which is brushed onto the kebabs towards the end of the cooking time. They sound really tasty.
These Sweet Chilli Pork and Pepper kebabs are available from Asda, priced at £3.00 per pack. They are on Syns Online for 1 Syn each.
Asda Butchers Selection Minted Lamb Kebabs
The combination of lamb and mint is an absolute classic, so these minted lamb kebabs are going to be great on the barbecue this summer!
Made from minced and shaped lamb mince, with a mint seasoning, they are gluten free, with no artificial flavours or colours.
A pack of 8 lamb kofta kebabs costs £4.00 from Asda. They are 2 Syns each on Syns Online.
No Bull Burgers Quarter Pounders
Here’s another meat alternative for the barbecue. No Bull burgers are vegan quarter pounder burgers that are exclusive to Iceland.
They’re described as ‘Plant based burgers that look like meat, taste like meat… they just aren’t!’ and have some positive reviews on the Iceland website, too.
Quorn Meat Free Peppered Beef Style Slice
Rich pickings for vegetarians in this week’s Shopping Essentials round up! It seems that supermarkets and manufacturers are really upping their game when it comes to vegetarian alternatives.
Quorn products have been around for years, and they are increasing their range all the time. These meat-free peppered beef style slices are great for sandwiches and salads, and they’d even work in our Low Syn Yorkshire Pud Wraps!
Kikkoman – Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce
If you’re looking for something a bit different to use as a salad dressing or marinade, this Kikkoman Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce could fit the bill.
It combines vinegar and lemon with savoury taste of quality soy sauce, so it would give a fresh flavour to salads, chicken, stir-fries and more. It would be good in our Syn Free Sweet and Sour Chicken recipe!
All of the Kikkoman soy sauces are free on Syns Online, so you can enjoy this without worrying about anything!
It’s available from Ocado, priced at £2.79 for a 250ml bottle.
Naked Rice Pots
A couple of weeks ago, we featured Batchelors Super Rice pots in the Shopping Essentials post. It’s fair to say that the feedback in the Facebook group has been pretty mixed.
The Naked noodles range have been well-received in the past, so we’re hoping that their new range of rice pots will be too. They’re a quick and easy option if you have limited facilities to prepare something hot.
Slimming World amended the Syn Values of Instant Noodle and Pasta Pots back in January. If you missed the announcement, you can read all about it here.
The Naked Rice Szechuan Sweet And Spicy Pot is 2 Syns on the SW app, and the Naked Rice Chinese Char Sui Pot is 1.5 Syns.
Weight Watchers Wraps 6 Pack – on offer!
As you probably already know, these Weight Watchers Low Fat wraps are an Healthy Extra B choice on Slimming World. Here at Pinch of Nom, we got quite inventive and we now have lots of recipes using them on the website!
One of our most popular recipes at the moment is our Syn Free Enchilada Lasagne. If you haven’t tried it yet, make sure you do, as you really wouldn’t want to miss out. It’s a-mazing!
Arla Fibre Pineapple And Passion Fruit
In one of our Shopping Essentials guides back in February, we brought news of a new fibre yogurt from Arla. We have found two new flavours this week, Arla Fibre with Pineapple and Passionfruit or Raspberry.
Larger pots are available in Strawberry and Blueberry flavours. The addition of fibre is supposed to support a balanced digestion.
Alpro Plain Unsweetened No Sugars
Before I go any further, I must stress that this is a suggested Syn value, following a call to the Slimming World Syns Hotline this morning.
They couldn’t give an exact Syn value until they consult with the manufacturer, but suggested 7.5 Syns per 500g pot to protect weight losses until a final Syn value is given. We’ll keep you posted!
Alpro Plain Unsweetened No Sugars is a non-dairy, 100% plant based alternative to yogurt that is naturally free of sugars. It’s suitable for vegetarians and vegans and gluten free too!
Splenda Zero Liquid Sweetener
If you enjoy a sweetened hot drink, you will probably carry a pot of sweetener tablets around with you when you’re out and about. Some restaurants and coffee shops offer individual sachets of sweetener, but not all.Splenda is a sucralose-based liquid sweetener, which comes in a small bottle, so it’s very portable! A squeeze is the equivalent of a teaspoon of sugar in your hot drink, so it’s quick and convenient, and syn free, too!
It’s a great sweetener alternative for those trying to avoid aspartame products, too. You can find it in Sainsbury’s, priced at £3.00 for a 50ml bottle.
Skinny Whip bars
Several people have shared these bars in the Facebook group this week. I was intrigued, so I made it my mission to track them down and try them for myself.
As I stood at the checkout, the lady serving me mentioned that they were the talk of the town in her Slimming World group too!
Skinny Whip bars are available in 3 flavours;
- Strawberry & Chocolate
- Double Chocolate
- Toffee & Chocolate
In a nutshell, they are flavoured nougat bars, with cocoa crisped cereal, coated in milk chocolate. They’re chewy, with the crispy rice giving some texture too. At 99 calories per bar, they work out at 5 Syns each on the snackulator.
They are available from Home Bargains stores, priced at 99p for a box of 5 bars.
