Morrisons Brussels Sprouts 500g
Sprouts are a bit like marmite! You either love them, or hate them. Personally, I absolutely love them!
I’m not talking about the sprouts that Grandma used to serve with Christmas Dinner. You know, the ones that had been boiling away for hours, removing all the colour and spoiling their delicate flavour!
Whether they’re served as an accompaniment to a traditional Sunday roast, or as a side dish to a mid-week supper, they’re packed full of flavour.
They can be boiled, steamed, microwaved or you could even try our delicious Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with Bacon recipe.
Of course, best of all, sprouts are a Speed food!
Morrisons are currently selling a 500g bag of Brussels Sprouts for just 67p. Amazing value!
Crinkle Cut Butternut Fries
If you are a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll know that we try to bring you at least one Speed food item each week. Well, fasten your seatbelts, we have plenty of Speed fruit and vegetable products this week!
If sprouts aren’t for you, how about these Crinkle Cut Butternut Squash Fries?
An easy and quick way to boost your Speed Food intake, these Crinkle Cut Butternut Squash Fries would go really well with so many meals.
Have you tried our Low Syn Pork and Apple Burgers yet? They’d go really well with these Butternut Squash Fries.
You’ll find these in Morrisons priced at £1.00 for a 300g bag.
Morrisons Frozen Cranberries
Now that Bonfire Night is well and truly behind us, Christmas is looming on the horizon. In fact, in just over 6 weeks we’ll be in the middle of that last-minute preparation frenzy!
Why not start preparing now by buying a few items for the freezer?
We have lots of suggestions for Slimming World friendly ways to cook your entire Christmas dinner, from Syn Free Gravy to Half Syn Pigs in Blankets and even Low Syn Christmas Cakes with more recipes on the way!
This week, we have a 300g pack of Cranberries from Morrisons. Priced at just £1.47 for a 350g pack.
Morrisons Fruit Pots
Walk into any supermarket and you’ll often find a tasty range of prepared fruit in handy pots, just waiting to be enjoyed.
Sometimes these pots have combinations of fruit that I wouldn’t necessarily consider. I love trying different fruit selections, so I was really pleased to find these fruit pots in Morrisons.
Morrisons Fig, Blackberry, Apple & Pear 230g pot
This is a really seasonal selection of fruits, reminiscent of autumn hedgerows.
Crispy apple paired with ripe pear, juicy blackberries and soft figs. The apple, pear and blackberry are all speed foods, and the figs are free.
Why not use this fruit pot for an Autumn version of our Low Syn Folded Berry Pancake? Nom Nom Nom!
Morrisons Grape, Blueberry, Strawberry & Blackberry 220g
This is a really popular mix of summer berries. Blackberries and Strawberries are Speed fruits, Grapes and Blueberries are Free food.
Refreshing and juicy, this pot would make a great dessert choice, mixed with some fat free yogurt and possibly a meringue nest for that added indulgence!
Morrisons Plum Pomegranate & Blueberry 230g
Now this is a combination I wouldn’t have thought of, but I love all of these flavours individually, so why not try them together?
A delicious mix of flavours and textures, great for a snack or a quick dessert.
The plums are Speed Fruit, the Pomegranate and Blueberries are free food.
Morrisons Pineapple Melon Kiwi & Mango 280g
Doesn’t this sounds like a totally tropical blend of fruits? The smell of these fruits will whisk you back to a sunny, summer afternoon!
Sweet, delicious and colourful, this pot offers Pineapple, Mango and Kiwi which are Free Foods, combined with Melon, which is Speed Food.
All the pots are priced at £2.00 each, but they’re currently on offer at 2 for £3.00 from Morrisons.
Morrisons Market Street Fruit Platter 400g
I love fruit, I really could graze on it all day! It’s a good job that it’s all Speed or Free food, or I’d be in real trouble!
Morrisons Fruit Platter is a ready prepared selection tray of fresh fruit. It’s as simple as that, but it disappears quickly every time as group members help themselves to melon, pineapple, strawberries, kiwi & blueberries.
It’s a convenient way to sample a delicious range of fruits, which is good value when compared to buying the fruits separately to create your own platter.
This 400g fruit platter is available from Morrisons, priced at £2.75
Morrisons Mango & Watermelon
The final contribution to our fruit fiesta from Morrisons is this prepared tray of Mango and Watermelon slices. Another great combination of flavours that really complement each other well.
This 250g pack of ready to eat slices of watermelon and mango costs £2.25, but is also part of the 2 for £3.00 offer that is currently available.
Morrisons Butternut Squash Waffles
Butternut Squash waffles, otherwise known as Squaffles, have been around for a while now, but not everywhere. For a long time, they were only available from Sainsbury’s.
Now all the major supermarkets have brought out their own versions of vegetable noodles, chips and even vegetable rice.
Morrisons have added to their range with their own Butternut Squash Waffles. Another great way to add Speed Food to your plate!
These BNS waffles cost £1.50 for a 300g pack (2 portions).
Morrisons Butternut Squash Chunks
Still on the Speed theme, we have Butternut Squash (BNS) chunks.
I mentioned in last week’s shopping essentials round up that BNS is sometimes really awkward to peel and chop. It’s too big, awkwardly-shaped, with a tough skin and really unwieldy.
When I was chomping at the bit to make our new 2 Syn Chicken Korma Curry last week, I was keen to pick up a ready prepared pack of BNS, so the BNS slices from Asda were perfect, and cost £1 for 300g.
Morrisons are now selling a 300g pack of BNS chunks for £1.30.
Morrisons Butternut Squash Lasagne Sheets
When Sainsbury’s first brought out their Butternut Squash lasagne sheets, they were so popular amongst Slimming Worlders, they were really hard to find.
People were keen to get their hands on them so that they could make our Syn Free Butternut Squash Lasagne!
Thankfully, many of the major supermarkets now stock a selection of Butternut Squash products.
Adding to their BNS selection are Morrisons, with these lasagne sheets. Perfect for a lasagne if you’re following an SP day, or just trying to cut down on the carbs for a meal or two.
These cost £1.50 for a 300g pack.
Morrisons Mixed Veg Crudites Pot
Another offering in the prepared vegetables range this week is the Morrisons Vegetable Crudite Mix.
A selection of mixed peppers, cucumber & carrot. Suitable for vegetarians.
This would be perfect with our Syn free Caramelised Onion Hummus!
A 300g pot costs £2.50 from Morrisons.
Butternut Squash Soup Mixes
Finally in our extensive Butternut Squash range for this week, we have soup mixes. Now that the clocks have gone back and the darker evenings are here, you can’t beat a bowl of warming soup to chase the chills away.
Morrisons Butternut Squash & Ginger soup mix
Morrisons have launched a Butternut Squash & Ginger soup mix. This combination works really well, with the earthy, sweet taste of BNS combining with the woody warmth of ginger.
All you need to add is a vegetable stock cube or stockpot and water, then simmer and blend.
This 500g soup mix is available from Morrisons priced at £1.25
Asda Good & Balanced Butternut Squash & Red Pepper Soup Mix
Last, but not least, we have this Good & Balanced Butternut Squash & Red Pepper Soup Mix from Asda. Speed Food
Perfect to brighten up a cold, grey day!
Again, all you need to add is vegetable stock and water, although I like to add some chopped fresh chilli too, to give it a bit of a kick.
This is available from Asda and costs 85p for 350g.
Cathedral City Sliced Lighter Cheese
Cheese is one of the foods that we do have to measure when following the Slimming World plan.
Gone are the days of happily slicing or grating a mountain of cheese for a sandwich, or even cheese on toast.
Fortunately, we can have cheese as a Healthy Extra, and if we can dispense with the weighing scales and choose a ‘grab-and-go’ measured portion, so much the better.
Cathedral City make a delicious range of cheeses, including a lighter option.
These Cathedral City Lighter Mature cheese slices have 30% less fat than their standard cheese slices. Each slice is 3 Syns on the SW website.
Better still, you can have 2 of these 20g slices of Cathedral City Lighter cheese as a Healthy Extra A choice.
Tesco are selling a resealable pack of 10 slices for £2.25
Mr Kipling Exceedingly Merry Frosty Fancies
Mr Kipling French Fancies have been around for as long as I can remember. Little cubes of light sponge, with a blob of vanilla buttercream, covered in a soft fondant icing.
Once again this year, the French Fancy has been given it’s Christmas makeover and is now a Frosty Fancy!
These are on the Slimming World Syns Online app and are 5 Syns each.
A box of 8 Frosty Fancies is available from Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco for £1.00
Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls
Another teatime favourite from Mr Kipling is the Viennese Whirl. We have a spicier, more wintry version right here with the Gingerbread Whirl.
The same delicious shortcake, but this time with the delightfully warming flavour of ginger.
If ginger is your thing, and you fancy saving a few Syns, why not try our 1.5 Syn Gingerbread Bites?
Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls are ginger flavoured shortcake whirls filled with buttercream. A tempting treat with a cuppa that will only set you back 6.5 Syns.
You can pick up a pack of 6 Gingerbread Whirls from Asda or Morrisons at £1.00 per box.
Gordon’s Gin & Schweppes Slimline Tonic
In last week’s Shopping Essentials list, we brought you news of two delicious new flavoured gin liqueurs from Lidl, Rhubarb and Ginger flavour and Raspberry flavour.
This week, it’s the turn of a much more familiar brand!
You’ll see the Gordon’s gin label in bars around the world, so you already know that it’s popular!
Gin is pretty good when it comes to Syn values too! A 25ml measure is 3 Syns, and a 35ml measure is 4 Syns. Pair your gin with a Syn free diet mixer and you’ve got the perfect tipple!
If you want to check the Syn values of your favourite spirit/liqueur, have a look here! How Many Syns in Spirits & Liqueurs
Gordon’s Gin & Schweppes Slimline Tonic comes premixed in a 250ml can for 4 Syns. A pack of 10 x 250ml cans is priced at £12.50 in Morrisons. Cheers!
Asda Chocolate & Salted Caramel Mini Tarts
One of the items that created lots of interest in last week’s Shopping Essentials list was the pack of mini Bakewell tarts from Asda.
Well now we have these amazing Chocolate and Salted Caramel Mini Tarts from Asda.
9 mini pastry cases filled with salted caramel and topped with chocolate flavoured buttercream and white chocolate.
These deliciously decadent Chocolate and Salted Caramel Mini Tarts work out at 6 Syns each using the Syns calculator.
Waitrose Christmas Gingerbread Cupcakes
New to the Waitrose Christmas range this week are these Gingerbread cupcakes.
All the supermarkets are really embracing the festive flavours now, so we’ve seen some lovely new treats on the bakery shelves.
These are mini ginger cupcakes with a frosting and a sugar gingerbread man decoration.
Suitable for vegetarians, these cupcakes have a calculated Syn value of 5.5 Syns each. They cost £3.00 for a pack of 9 mini cupcakes, from Waitrose.
Waitrose Christmas Chocolate & Almond Truffle Brownies
Another of the scrummy Christmas-themed treats from the Waitrose in-store bakery are these Christmas Chocolate & Almond Truffle Brownies.
A bite-sized chocolate brownie containing salted caramel fudge pieces, pecan praline pieces, and almonds topped with white chocolate and finished with a festive swirl.
These are on the Syns online app for 3.5 Syns each.
