Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 400,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.

Wow! It’s been a very busy week at Nom Towers! We’ve had so many new members joining the group, so if you’re one of them, welcome!
We always try to bring you some Speed Food ideas in the Shopping Essentials list, and this week is no exception. Speed Foods are a vital part of the Slimming World plan.
You can check out our handy list of Speed Foods here.
Are Blueberries are now a Speed food?
You’ll probably know that blueberries have previously been classed as a Free Food, but, unlike most other berries they were never a Speed Food.
We’ve had confirmation from Slimming World, that Blueberries have now been reclassified as a Speed Food.
This means that you can get some extra speed in with recipes like our Low Syn Bacon, Maple and Blueberry Pancakes.
You can find out more information here.
New Protein Food Shop Offer
We’ve got a New Year offer from Protein Food Shop, which is available until 10pm Friday 19th Jan.
If you save £10 when you spend over £60, all you need to do is use the code NOMSAVER when you check-out.
You can get a wide range of meats from Protein Food Shop, including beef for our Syn Free Cuban Beef (Ropa Vieja) recipe.
Morrisons The Best Rainbow Carrots
Carrots are so versatile, aren’t they?! We can eat them raw in salads and coleslaw, cook them in soups and stews, dunk them in a delicious dip or serve as a vegetable accompaniment to the Sunday roast! Best of all, they’re a Speed food.
These Morrisons The Best Rainbow Carrots are a vibrant and colourful way to brighten up your plate. They have been specially picked for colour and flavour. I’m looking forward to these with lunch on Sunday, covered with Syn Free Gravy. Nom!
These are available from Morrisons, priced at £1.00 for a pack of 9 Rainbow Carrots.
Morrisons Sugar Snap Peas & Mangetout
We know that when we’re food optimising on the Slimming World plan, we need to have at least one third of a plate of Speed foods where possible with our meals.
Here’s another great combination of vegetables from Morrisons. Both Sugar Snap Peas and Mangetout are on our Speed Food list, and this is a quick and convenient way to add vegetables to your plate.
I love to use these vegetables as part of a main meal, but they’re also great as a snack, especially dipped in our Syn Free Caramelised Onion Hummus
This pack of Sugar Snap Peas and Mangetout costs £1.63 from Morrisons.
Morrisons Baby Corn, Tenderstem Broccoli & Fine Beans
Here’s another collection of Speed vegetables to quickly and easily transform your meal into a perfectly food optimised feast!
Baby corn is included on the speed food list, but it’s important to note that sweetcorn and corn on the cob are classified as free food, not speed. (This is a common misconception for some people when they start Slimming World!)
These vegetables would be another great way to get that all-important 1/3 Speed food onto your plate. They’d be perfect with our Syn Free Cuban Beef.
This pack of baby corn, tenderstem broccoli and fine beans costs £1.75 from Morrisons.
Asda Frozen Kale
I’ve visited several supermarkets this week, all in the name of research, obviously. (Just don’t look at my bank statement too closely, okay?!)
All of them are jumping on the ‘New Year – New You’ bandwagon, with selections of healthy or diet-related products on promotion.
The beauty of Slimming World is that you don’t need specialist diet foods, just the knowledge of how to Food Optimise and a website full of amazing recipes!
Our quest to bring you even more choices with Speed Food continues in the freezer section, with this Frozen Kale from Asda. Frozen for freshness. No mess, no fuss. Boil from frozen in 3 mins.
This Asda Frozen Kale costs £1.50 for a 500g bag.
Iceland Tenderstem Frozen Broccoli
I spotted this pack of frozen tenderstem broccoli, which is really handy to keep in the freezer. As the name suggests, this broccoli has long, tender stems, rather than the fibrous stalks on standard broccoli.
It’s perfect as a simple side dish or as an addition to stir fries, salads, pasta sauces and curries. It would be amazing in our Syn Free Chinese Chicken and Broccoli.
Aldi Frozen Cauli Rice
We saw a post from Josh, one of our Facebook Group members this week. He told us that he’d been looking for the fresh version of Aldi Cauli rice and wondering where it had gone. Apparently, it’s been discontinued, and replaced with this frozen version.
Vegetable rice and other vegetable side dishes have become really popular, and many supermarkets now sell a range of vegetable products, such as squaffles and veg noodles.
2 microwaveable portions of frozen cauli rice, with no added oil, so it’s just frozen cauliflower. Aldi Frozen Cauli Rice costs 79p for 2 x 200g bags.
Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm 4 Naked Baked Potatoes
There’s something genuinely delicious about a proper oven baked potato. The smell and taste is quite different to one that’s been pinged in the microwave, but sometimes it’s just not practical. I love a jacket filled with our yummy Syn Free Chilli, perfect on a cold winter evening.
These Bannisters Yorkshire Family Farm Naked Baked Potatoes are 100% potato, with no oil, oven baked in their skins. They’re Gluten Free and suitable for vegetarians.
There are other frozen baked potatoes available, but they’re often coated with oil and have a Syn value. These have nothing added and are simply baked in their skins, so we’re pretty sure they’ll be free when they’re added to the app.
The Saucy Fish Co. Chilli, Lime And Ginger
As the Slimming World saying goes, ‘If it swims, it slims!’
Fish is a great choice when you’re following Slimming World as it’s quick to prepare and cook. Fish is free food and high is protein too, so it gets a ‘P‘ in the food optimising book!
This Saucy Fish Co Fish and Sauce comes complete with a Chilli, Lime & Ginger Dressing. It couldn’t be easier, bake in the bag from frozen in just 28 minutes. This would make an ideal supper if you’re in a rush.
If you’d prefer to make your own, have a look at our Syn Free Chilli and Lime Baked Salmon.
Lidl Pick Of The Week – Fruit
In last week’s Shopping Essentials list, we featured the fruit and veg offers from Lidl and Aldi. These two stores also have an offer on fresh meat and fish produce each week. They’re not always suitable for Slimming World, especially if the meat/fish products have a sauce or dressing.
This week, everything that Lidl has chosen for the Pick of the Week is great on Slimming World!
There are some great free and speed fruit and veg choices;
- Spinach – Speed
- Mangoes – Free
- Radishes – Speed
- Kiwis – Free
Lidl Pick Of The Week – Meat/Fish
- Pork Loin Steaks – great for Syn Free Balsamic Glazed Pork
- Cod Fillets – fish supper with Syn Free Chunky Chips and mushy peas
- British Beef Roasting Joint – perfect for Sunday lunch with our 1.5 Syn Yorkshire Puddings
- Boneless Pork Leg Joint – ideal for Syn Free Pulled Pork with BBQ Sauce
All these meat products are Free Food once any visible fat has been removed.
Knorr Liquid Stock Concentrate
During one of my many supermarkets forays this week, I spotted these Knorr Liquid Stock Concentrates on the shelf in Tesco. It was one of those very rare occasions when I didn’t have my phone with me, so couldn’t check Syns Online on the spot.
Happily, when I checked out the Syn values at home later, I discovered that they were free! You can use them in the same way as standard stock cubes, for flavouring soups, stews, pies and curries. The beef one would be ideal for this Low Syn Beef Stroganoff.
Golden Wonder Quarter Backs
We’re always on the lookout for savoury snacks that will satisfy that urge to eat crisps. These Golden Wonder Quarter Backs are baked, not fried, which helps to keep the Syn count low.
Golden Wonder Quarter Backs are available in two flavours, Cheese Burger and Sticky Rib. They’re not on the app yet, but using the Syns Calculator they are 4 Syns per 16g bag.
These crispy snacks are available in a multipack of 8 x 16g bags for £1.00 from Tesco. You can find them on the Tesco website here.
Proper Corn Smooth Peanut And Almond
We all love a delicious bag of popcorn to munch on! We’ve featured popcorn, such as Skinny Pop popcorn, in previous Shopping List articles, but I saw this tempting new flavour this week whilst browsing the Tesco website.
Proper Corn Smooth Peanut and Almond popcorn sounds just a-maze-ing and I can’t wait to get my hands on a bag!
Hand-popped corn, mixed with a delicious blend of peanut and almond. This popcorn is;
- GM free
- Gluten & wheat free
- Suitable for vegans
Iceland – Muller/Quaker oats deal
Lots of people who have just started their Slimming World journeys are looking for a satisfying breakfast to start them off on the right track for the day. A popular option for some is to make Overnight oats, using 40g oats as an HEB choice.
If you enjoy overnight oats, this deal will be right up your street! Iceland are currently offering a FREE 1Kg pack of Quaker porridge oats when you buy 2 x 500g pots of Muller Light Greek Style Yogurt.
Even if you’re not keen on overnight oats, the Muller yogurts are free food. You can use the porridge oats for Baked oats, or prepare them in the traditional way and have a bowl of porridge!
Robinsons Fruit Creations new flavours
Last November we featured Robinsons Fruit Creations on the Shopping Essentials list. When I popped into Asda earlier this week, I spotted two new flavours!
It’s now available in Pear, Blackcurrant and Cherry flavour, and Peach and Raspberry flavour. All flavours are listed as free on Syns Online, so you can enjoy them freely.
These are from Asda, priced at £1.50 for a 1 litre bottle.
Halo Top Sea Salt Caramel Low Calorie Ice Cream
There was a real buzz around last week’s Shopping Essentials list when we showed you Halo Top Ice Cream. This week, I found out that not only do Ocado stock them too, but they have an extra flavour!
Halo Top Sea Salt Caramel flavour is available alongside the other flavours;
- Peanut Butter
- Chocolate Chip
- Cinnamon Roll
- Mint Chip
- Vanilla Bean
Using the Syns Calculator the Sea Salt Caramel flavour works out at 4 Syns per 118ml serving. All flavours are available from Ocado, priced at £5.00 per pot.
Breyers Ice Cream
Ice cream is everywhere this week! As if the Halo Top ice cream from last week wasn’t exciting enough, I’ve found another yummy sounding, low Syn ice cream range!
Breyers Ice Cream is listed on the Tesco website in 3 amazing flavours;
- Creamy Chocolate – 3 Syns per 2 scoops (53g)
- Cookies and Cream – 3.5 Syns per 2 scoops (53g)
- Smooth Vanilla – 3 Syns per 2 scoops (53g)
Fibre One Cinnamon Drizzle squares
Fibre One bars have been around for a while. A cake type of snack, containing more fibre and less fat than average UK brownies. They’re quite small, but very popular in Slimming World circles, particularly for satisfying a sweet tooth.
Now there’s a new Fibre One being launched, Cinnamon Drizzle. The new flavour bars will contain cinnamon flavoured pieces with a vanilla drizzle. Cinnamon Drizzle is set to join existing Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Lemon Drizzle Squares and Salted Caramel Squares, all retailing at £2.89 each.
We have no details of stockists yet, but should be seeing them in supermarkets very soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
