Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Tesco Finest Sweet Mixed Baby Tomatoes
Now that Autumn is well and truly with us, I’m looking for ways to increase my speed food intake. These baby tomatoes from Tesco are so pretty, they’re a bright and colourful way to liven up a plate.
Tesco Finest Sweet Mixed Baby Tomatoes are a selection of colourful varieties, hand-picked so they’re perfectly ripe. They’d be great in our Syn Free Vegetable Tarts, which make a quick and easy lunch or mid-week evening meal.
Tesco Finest Orange Rapture Tomatoes
If multi-coloured tomatoes are a bit too much excitement for you, how about a punnet full of Orange Rapture instead?
These gorgeous little tomatoes are grown in Kent, a place that’s always been known as the ‘Garden of England’.
Tesco Finest Orange Rapture Tomatoes have a sweet, distinctive flavour. They’re ideal for snacking, straight from the pack, or to brighten up a salad.
You could throw a handful of these into our Syn Free One Pot Mediterranean Chicken Orzo recipe…Nom!
Aldi Super 6
If you are a regular follower of our weekly Shopping Essentials round ups, you’ll know that we usually include a weekly offer from one of the budget supermarkets. Aldi and Lidl both have great deals on a selected range of produce.
This week, we’ve chosen Aldi, and all of the Super 6 this week are speed food choices;
- Swede – make a root veg mash for our Syn Free Cottage Pie
- Broccoli – Oooh! Syn Free Chinese Chicken & Broccoli
- Mushrooms – great for our 2 Syn Steak & Mushroom Pie
- Savoy Cabbage – perfect accompaniment for Syn Free Bacon, Potato & Onion Bake
- Mixed Squash – Try one in our Syn Free Butternut Squash Risotto
- Limes – for our Syn Free Chilli & Lime Baked Salmon
Prices range from 39p to 59p per pack, available until Weds 24th October, subject to availability.
Tesco Sliced Courgette (Frozen)
If you’re anything like me, I’ll buy courgettes on a whim, then get home and wonder what to do with them!
My favourite way to use them is in a ratatouille, which is jam-packed with speed foods, so it’s always a winner!
We have a great recipe for this Syn Free Turkey Ratatouille Pasta Bake, well worth a try if you haven’t made it yet!
Tesco Vegetable Pots – Sweet Chilli/Tomato & Basil
Over in our Facebook group, we often get an appeal for help, from people who’ve forgotten their lunch and need a quick fix.
I usually go for something really quick, like a pack of cold meat and a punnet of salad. Both are Protein and Speed foods, which are free and on plan.
If you fancy something a bit more interesting, take a look at these Tesco Vegetable pots. You’ll find them in the chiller section with the prepared vegetables.
There are two varieties available, Sweet Chilli Butternut Squashetti, and Tomato & Basil Courgetti Spirals. Ribbons of butternut squash or courgette, paired with a selection of vegetables with a flavour-packed vegetable sauce.
The Sweet Chilli flavour works out at 3.5 Syns using the Syns Estimator on the Slimming World website and the Tomato & Basil is 2.5 Syns.
Asda Rainbow Rice
Someone in our Facebook group shared this new product this week, so I’m sharing it here too! We often get people asking about vegetable alternatives, from people who are trying to cut down on rice and pasta.
Asda Rainbow Rice is a mixture of sweet potato, butternut squash, courgettes, red onions, red peppers and kale.
The sweet potato means that this wouldn’t be suitable on an SP day, but it’s still a great alternative if you’re wanting to reduce your carb intake.
This product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It costs £1.25 for a 300g pot, and is free on the Syns Online database.
Aldi Turkey Rashers
A Perfect, Low Syn BLT is always a good choice, but some people choose not to eat pork. These Aldi Turkey rashers could be the perfect solution!
They’re very low in fat and can be grilled or cooked in a pan with frylight for a guilt-free TLT sandwich!
Aldi Turkey Rashers are available unsmoked or lightly smoked and cost £1.99 for a 250g pack.
Aldi Organic GF Spaghetti
There are new gluten free products appearing on the supermarket shelves all the time these days, which is great.
Not only does it increase the choice available, but it should also help to keep the prices lower.
Aldi are currently stocking three varieties of Gluten Free Spaghetti, made from Edamame Beans, Soy Beans and Black Beans. Fab for adding a bit of variety to the presentation of your dishes.
Why not try one of them in our Syn Free Bovril Spaghetti? One of the quickest, most comforting meals you can make!
These Organic, Gluten Free spaghetti packs are in the special offers section, which are limited stock so may not always be available. They cost £1.99 per 200g box.
Birds Eye Veggie Bowl
The Birds Eye brand is famous for frozen foods, from fish fingers to frozen peas. I spotted these last week in Morrisons and thought they looked really good.
Birds Eye Veggie Bowls, packed with vegetables, each one provides 2 of your 5 a day.
They also contain plenty of plant protein, so they’re a tasty way to stay fuller for longer, and perfect for a vegetarian diet.
Available in 3 flavours, they are listed on Syns Online with the following values;
- Asian Sweet & Sour Noodles – 5 Syns
- Moroccan Tagine with Chickpeas & Aubergine – 6.5 Syns
- Thai Curry with Chickpeas & Sweet Potato – 6.5 Syns
The usual retail price is £2.90 per pack, but they are currently on offer in Morrisons at £2.00 per pack. You’ll find them in the freezer.
Crosta & Mollica Mini Piada Flatbreads
Bread is one of those foods I eat a lot less of since I started my Slimming World journey. I still enjoy it sometimes, either using it as my HEB choice, or counting the Syns and including it in my daily allowance.
If you’re looking for something to dip into your soup or hummus, have a look at these mini flatbreads.
I spotted them in Sainsbury’s this week and thought they looked good. They’re made to an authentic Italian recipe, using durum wheat, extra virgin olive oil and natural rosemary flavour.
Why not try them with our Syn Free Tomato & Basil Soup for an indulgent lunchtime treat. They’re listed on Syns Online at 4 Syns each and cost £1.00 for a pack of 4 flatbreads.
Cinnamon Coca-Cola Zero Sugar
If I had to choose a favourite flavour, it would be cinnamon. Vanilla would come a close runner up, but cinnamon is soooo good.
When I spotted this new flavour of Coke Zero I was delighted and headed to my local Sainsbury’s to find it.
I’m sure the manager I found thought I was slightly bonkers, as I’d already shown him a photo of Pigs in Blankets tea bags and Brussels Sprouts tea bags… YES, they actually are a thing! Long story short, you can find those in Sainsbury’s too!
Anyway, he checked the stock sheets and went to fetch a couple of bottles of Cinnamon Coke Zero from the warehouse. (I passed on the tea bags, for now!)
The cinnamon flavour is definitely there, but for me, it wasn’t strong enough. If you like cinnamon, give it a try and see what you think.
It’s a limited festive edition, currently available from Sainsbury’s, but may also be appearing in other stores. It costs £1.35 for a 1.25L bottle.
Tesco Raspberry & Rose Lemonade/Alphonso Mango & Mandarin
If you’re looking for something a bit different to drink then you might want to check these out. Tesco have launched a range of more unusually flavoured sparkling drinks to mix things up a bit!
There are several flavour options, but my local Tesco, although huge, only had 2 in stock, as shown in the photograph. The shelf tickets list 4 flavours;
- Raspberry & Rose Lemonade
- Alphonso Mango & Mandarin Lemonade
- Morello Cherry Lemonade
- Watermelon Lemonade
Slush Puppie Slushies
The evenings are getting darker and in a couple of weeks we’ll be putting the clocks back.
If you’re one of those who likes to close the curtains and relax on the sofa for a movie marathon, you can now enjoy a cinema-style Slush Puppie at home too.
Yes, The Original Slush Puppie Slushy is now available from Tesco, in three fab flavours;
- Blue Raspberry
- Sour Cherry
These are now listed in the Slimming World app as 5 Syns each for the Blue Raspberry and Strawberry flavours.
As the nutrition values are virtually identical, we would advise counting the Sour Cherry flavour as 5 Syns. (Sour Cherry has 0.1 grams less sugar per 100ml than the other two flavours).
Soreen Scream Blood Orange/Toffee Apple Mini Loaves
It’s that time of year…No, not THAT time, not yet anyway! Autumn leaves are falling, there’s a chill in the air, it’s almost half term and Halloween will soon be here!
This gives manufacturers a perfect excuse to sell us themed goodies, so we have a few here for you!
Soreen malt loaves often bring out limited edition flavours, and these two are around in shops at the moment.
Soreen Scream Chocolate & Blood Orange or Toffee Apple Mini loaves are a tasty treat with a cuppa, or to pop into a lunchbox to satisfy that sweet tooth.
Mr Kipling Fiendish Fancies
Good Old Mr Kipling can always be relied upon to bring out a seasonal variety of his classic French Fancies, whatever the occasion.
This time, with Halloween just around the corner, we have Fiendish Fancies on the shelf.
Slightly different to the traditional favourite, these are cubes of orange sponge cake, topped with vanilla fondant and covered in orange coloured fondant icing.
Cadbury Pumpkin Patch Cakes
Continuing the Halloween theme for one more item this week, we have these Cadbury Pumpkin Patch cakes.
Chocolate flavoured sponge layered with an orange coloured filling, covered in milk chocolate and finished with a pumpkin decoration.
If you love the combination of chocolate and orange flavours, why not try saving yourself some Syns with our 1.5 Syn a Slice Chocolate & Orange cake.
Strawberry Jaffa Cakes
Here at Pinch of Nom, we love a jaffa cake. In fact, we love them so much, we came up with a recipe for our own 1 Syn Jaffa Cakes, saving ourselves a few Syns into the bargain!
Light spongy base, with orange jelly and drizzled in dark chocolate. Nom!
Not content with that, we went on to create 1 Syn Raffa cakes too! Just as delicious as their orangey counterparts, but raspberry flavour instead!
Someone obviously liked our idea, as you can now get Strawberry Jaffa Cakes! These are a limited edition, and are currently half price in Tesco, priced at 50p a box. You’ll find them here, on the Tesco website.
M&M’s Cake bars
Our final selection for the Shopping Essentials round up this week are these M&M’s cake bars.
They may seem like an indulgent treat, but as long as you’re disciplined enough to just have one, you can enjoy it within your Syns allowance for the day.
Soft chocolate sponge cake bars, with a chocolate flavour cream and crunchy coloured pieces, covered in milk chocolate.

Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
