Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Lidl Pick of the Week
Both Lidl and Aldi are a great place to start when you want to fill up your trolley with Speed foods.
They offer a good range and always have a selection of fruit and vegetables on special offer.
This week in Lidl, the Pick of the Week includes;
- Fresh spinach – a quick & easy way to add 1/3 speed food to your plate
- British radishes – for added crunch in salad, slice thinly and add balsamic vinegar
- Organic cucumber – delicious for our Low Syn Hoisin Turkey Cucumber Cups
- Jersey Royal potatoes – great for making Syn Free Pea, Bacon & Potato salad
Prices range from 39p to 69p per pack.
This Lidl Pick of the Week selection is available from 12.7.18 and the offer runs until 18.7.18.
Supersweet Gold Kiwi
You will all be familiar with the traditional green kiwi fruit, but here’s something different for you! Supersweet Gold Kiwi are much sweeter than the green variety, and the skin is smooth, not fuzzy.
The flesh is softer in texture and bright yellow in colour, with a smaller core and fewer seeds.
Some people describe the taste as a cross between a mango and a strawberry. Both varieties are free foods, but sadly they’re not on the Speed food list.
M&S Savoury Snacks
The world of savoury snacks is booming. There’s a constantly expanding range of snacks, many of them made from alternatives to potato.
With the emphasis on healthier eating, they’re often baked rather than fried.
An M&S Food Hall has opened on a new retail park very close to where I live, so I felt duty-bound to go and have a browse!
It’s a great place, and it’ll be super handy to have virtually on my doorstep.
My top tip would be not to wander around an M&S Food Hall when you’re hungry, as there are lots of temptations that are not really SW friendly!
These savoury snacks caught my eye and are pretty good, Syns-wise.
- Sweet & Smoky Chick Pea Puffs – 4.5 Syns per bag
- Salt & Vinegar Pea Snaps – 4.5 Syns per bag
- Smoky Bacon Lentil Tubes – 4.5 Syns per bag
All Syn values were worked out using the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website.
The snacks come in a multi-pack of 5 bags and they’re priced at £2.00 to £2.50 per pack.
Carbzone Low Carb Small Tortilla
The subject of Tortilla wraps is always under discussion in our Facebook group.
There are some tortillas that can be used as your HEB choice for the day.
These Carbzone Low Carb Small Tortillas are not included on the Healthy Extras list, but work out at 5.5 Syns using the Syns calculator.
They’re an online exclusive, so you won’t find them in store.
You can order from the Morrisons website, priced at £3.95 for a pack of 8 low carb wraps.
Sainsbury’s Cold Brew Infusion Bags
One of the most popular items from a recent Shopping Essentials list were the Cold In’fuse bags from Twinings.
When we discovered these, you could only get them from the Twinings website.
The Twinings Cold In’fuse bags are now on sale in Waitrose and Sainsbury’s, so I called in to get some and found these instead!
Sainsbury’s have launched their own Cold Brew Infusion bags, in three tempting flavours;
- Mint & Lemon
- Watermelon & Lime
- Summer Berry & Basil
To prepare, just add one infusion bag to 500ml of fresh, cold drinking water. Allow to infuse for 10 minutes and you’re good to go!
They’re a great way to help you increase your water intake.
The Sainsbury’s Cold brew Infusion bags are great value, priced at £2.50 for 15 bags.
Muller Light Turkish Delight Yogurt
We know that Muller Light are a popular choice when you’re following Slimming World. There are regular flavours which you can buy week in, week out, and there are limited edition flavours too.
The Turkish Delight flavour Muller Light yogurt has been out before, so it’s not completely new, but it’s out again in supermarkets at the moment as a limited edition, so if you like them, you’ll find them in the chiller cabinets right now.
It’s a Turkish Delight flavour yogurt sprinkled with dark chocolate and available in the standard 165g pots. They are listed as free on Syns Online.
Why not try them in our Low Syn Turkish Delight Baked Oats?

Lidl Gelatelli Frozen Skyr
Skyr is an Icelandic-style yogurt that’s high in protein and low in fat and sugar. It’s not a specific brand, but a type of yogurt, just like Greek style.
It’s thicker and creamier, even though it’s made with skimmed milk.
This Lidl Gelatelli Frozen Skyr is sold as a pack of two 150ml servings. I
found two flavours in stock at my local branch, Natural and Cherry. A blueberry flavour is also available, but it wasn’t in stock.
The natural flavour is listed on Syns Online at 5.5 Syns for a 150ml pot.
The cherry flavour isn’t on the app but works out at 6 Syns per pot using the Syns calculator.
Gelatelli Frozen Skyr is on offer in Lidl for £1.99 at the moment.
The usual selling price for 2 x 150ml pots is £2.49, so grab them while you can!
Lidl Gelatelli Neo Ice Cream Sandwich
The next item on our Slimming World Shopping Essentials round up this week is another frozen dessert option from Lidl.

Lidl are selling a box of 12 Rowntrees Randoms mini ice lollies for £1.99 while stocks last.
ASDA Chocolate Frozen Yogurt
Asda have launched a new frozen yogurt dessert and we think it looks pretty good! Creamy frozen yogurt mixed with moreish milk chocolate to create a dreamy iced dessert.
According to the online reviews, it actually tastes like a much more indulgent chocolate ice cream, even though it’s made with yogurt and contains less than 3% fat.
We’ve used the Snackulator to work out that a 57g serving is 4 Syns.
There are no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat and it’s suitable for vegetarians. A 500ml pot costs £2.00 from Asda.
This product is included in a multi-buy promotion of 2 for £3.00.
Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn Multipack
Back in May, we featured Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn in our Shopping Essentials round up. At the time, the popcorn was sold in 26g bags, which worked out at 6.5 Syns each. Not bad at all, really.
When you’ve got the urge to munch, or you’re looking for a treat that won’t mean falling off the wagon completely, these snack-sized bags could be the answer.
The Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn is now available in handy 15g snack packs which work out at 3.5 Syns per bag using the Syns calculator.

The Ice Kitchen range isn’t all about alcoholic lollies, but most of the range are definitely indulgent in one way or another!
These Strawberries and Cream lollies are made with 50% fresh strawberries and a splash of double cream.
The reviews for them are really positive, with many saying that they taste like homemade lollies as they have such a high fruit content and wonderful flavour.

Aldi Sugar Free Sulá Sweets
Aldi have added some new flavours to their range of Sulá sugar free sweets.
The new lines all have a distinctly American theme and may be a limited edition, as we think they’re part of the Aldi US Independence Day promotion.
Amanda posted a photo of the new flavours to our Facebook group. They include Caramel Popcorn, Cherry Cola, Strawberry Cheesecake, Apple Caramel and Blueberry Muffin.
One thing to note with all sugar free sweets is that excessive consumption can have a laxative effect, so make sure you enjoy in moderation!
All Aldi sugar free packets of sweets in this range are listed on the app at 0.5 Syns per sweet. They cost 59p per box.
McVitie’s Club Orange Cake Crunchies
I’m sure you’re familiar with Club chocolate biscuits, they’ve been knocking around since the year dot! They’re a really traditional biscuit, with a thick chocolate coating.
These McVities Club Orange Cake Crunchies are made from orange flavour sponge cake, topped with chocolate flavour cream and biscuit pieces.

Aldi ZeroPointZero White Sparkling wine
If you enjoy a glass of something cold and sparkling, but don’t like the high Syn values, this product should be of interest!
Aldi have just introduced this ZeroPointZero alcohol free sparkling wine. It’s 0% alcohol, which means it’s lower in calories too.
It’s the alcohol that increases the Syn value in drinks, so if you don’t mind going alcohol free this is a great option.
If you’re not sure about Syn values in wine, take a look at our guide to Wine Syn Values by the Glass.
Standard prosecco or cava type sparkling wine is 5 Syns per 125ml glass, but this ZeroPointZero sparkling wine is just 1.5 Syns per 125mls on the Syns Calculator.
