Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Lidl Pick of the Week
Budget-friendly supermarkets, such as Aldi and Lidl, are fab for keeping your weekly spend on fresh produce a little bit lower.
These stores always have a selection of fruit and vegetables on offer at a bargain price.
This week, we’re looking at Lidl’s Pick of the Week;
- British Little Gem Lettuce – for serving our Syn Free Prawn Cocktail
- Wild Rocket – you’ll need this to make Syn Free Rocket & Basil Pesto
- British Apples – ideal for these Low Syn Pork & Apple Burgers
- British Bunched Beetroot – for my favourite Syn Free Roasted Garlic & Beetroot Soup.
I can’t wait to make that Syn free Roasted Garlic & Beetroot Soup again!
Perfect for this time of year and totally tasty! Prices range from 39p to 79p per pack, and this week, all the Lidl Pick of the Week items are Speed food. Winning!
Asda Calorie counted range
My trolley screeched to a halt when I spotted these in Asda on Tuesday. As you know, we love cooking delicious meals.
If time really is too tight and you need to rely on a ready meal, you could take a look at this new Calorie Counted range from Asda.
They’re not Syn Free, but you can easily have them within your 5-15 Syns allowance for the day.
- Mexican Chicken – 2.5 Syns
- Beef Lasagne – 7.5 Syns
- Beef Casserole & Mash – 5 Syns
- Chicken Tikka Masala – 6.5 Syns
- Creamy Prawn Linguine – 6 Syns
Syns values taken from Syns Online database.
When you pair one of these with some speed veg you’ve got yourself a quick and easy meal.
These meals cost £2.40 each, apart from the Mexican Chicken which is priced at £2.75. You’ll find them in the chilled section at Asda.
Heck Sweet Fusion Sausages
Heck Sausages are a popular choice for many. There are lots of different flavours in the range, which seems to be expanding all the time.
We featured their ‘The Beet Goes On’ vegetarian sausages in our Shopping Essentials round up in June.
Asda are now stocking these Heck Sweet Fusion Sausages, which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Made with Thai pesto, sweet potato & sticky rice, they cost £2.50 for a pack of 6. The sausages are listed as 2 Syns each on the Slimming World website.
Asda Ditali Pasta
Pasta’s great, isn’t it? It’s quick and easy to cook, can be used in a myriad of dishes and it’s free on Slimming World.
With so many pasta shapes to choose from, you can have some fun with mealtimes too! These short tubes of pasta are great for our Low Syn Quick Easy Cheesy Pasta.
This 500g pack of Ditali pasta shapes costs 65p from Asda.
Asda Fusilli 50:50 Pasta
Fibre makes up a really important part of our diets.
We need fibre to maintain a healthy digestive system, which is why the Healthy Extra B choice is important on the Slimming World plan.
There are lots of ways to increase our fibre intake, including eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
You can also choose products like this Asda 50:50 Fusilli Pasta, made with 50% regular wheat and 50% wholewheat.
Just like regular pasta, this cooks in 10-12 minutes, so it’s great for using in our pasta dishes.
Why not try our Syn Free Chilli Pasta Bake for dinner tonight?! Asda 50:50 Fusilli Pasta costs 75p for a 500g bag
Patak’s Oven Bake pouches
These Patak’s Oven Bake pouches are instant marinades, designed to be used with Chicken, Fish or vegetarian choices such as Quorn or Tofu pieces.
There are three varieties available from supermarkets;
- Spicy Chicken 65 – 7 Syns
- Tandoori – 6.5 Syns
- Lemon & Coriander – 6.5 Syns
The Syn values are from the Syns Online database. These new Patak’s Oven Bake pouches are available from Morrisons and Asda for an introductory price of just £1.00 per pack.
Asda Light Sweet Chilli Sauce
Sweet chilli sauce goes with so many meals, or at least, it does in our house! I’ve usually got some of our Syn Free Sweet Chilli Sauce in a jar in the fridge.
If I haven’t made any, there’s always a bottle of sweet chilli sauce lurking in the back of the cupboard.
Asda have introduced a Light Sweet Chilli sauce to their Oriental foods range.
It’s not on the Slimming World database yet, so I’ve put it through the Syns calculator and it comes out at 1 Syn per tbsp.
The majority of standard sweet chilli sauces are listed as 1.5 Syns per tbsp on the app, so this sauce is slightly lower. It costs £1.00 for a 200ml bottle.
Blue Dragon Thai Hot Chilli Sriracha Sauce
I’ll be absolutely honest, I’d never heard of sriracha until I started working for Pinch of Nom.
Made from hot chillies, you can buy it as a dry seasoning or as a sauce. It adds a fiery kick to anything, so if you’re a spicy food fanatic, this is amazing!
Blue Dragon products are synonymous with Asian foods, and this red hot chilli sauce is a great addition to the range.
It has a chilli rating of 3 – hot, and it’s a rich, spicy blend of red chillies and garlic.
It has no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
It’s listed as 1 Syn per tbsp on the Slimming World database and costs £2.55 for a 435ml bottle.
Asda Beef Brisket with Onion Gravy
This new beefy beauty was hiding in the freezers at Asda, but I found it and wanted to share it here.
Slow-cooked beef brisket in a rich onion gravy sauce that’s cooked from frozen. How easy is that?
This would be fab for a family meal, served with our Syn Free Roast Potatoes and a pile of speed veg.
It’s listed on the Slimming World database as 0.5 Syns per 1/4 of a pack, so it would be well within your daily Syns allowance.
There are no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat. Asda Beef Brisket with Onion Gravy costs £5.00 for a 620g pack.
Colmans Natural Blends sachets
Anyone who cooks their own meals will know that you can never have enough jars in your spice rack!
That’s certainly true when you’re following the Slimming World plan. Herbs and spices can transform the dullest of ingredients into something pretty special.
My spice rack has spilled over into my kitchen cupboard, with more jars than I care to admit, but it means I can make the tastiest recipes from the Pinch of Nom website!
If you’re not confident about blending spices together, you can follow a good recipe, such as this one for Low Syn Jerk Chicken, or you can use a ready made herb and spice blend.
Colmans have put together this new range of Natural Blends sachets;
- Herby Spaghetti Bolognese
- Blazin’ Chilli Con Carne
- Smoky Mexican Tacos
- Kickin’ Jamaican Jerk
I’ve put the nutritional information through the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website, and they work out at 2 Syns per 1/2 pack.
They cost £1.15 per sachet from Morrisons.
Asda Salmon Quarter Pounder Burgers
Asda have launched these delicious sounding Salmon quarter pounder burgers. They are described as a mixture of smoky salmon & pollock with a smoky BBQ sauce.
If you love fish, and fancy a change from meaty burgers, these are definitely worth a look!
Of course, if you’re a fully blown carnivore and love a good burger, we have a fab selection of burger recipes on the website, including these delicious Syn Free Tex-Mex Burgers.
They are listed on the Slimming World app as 1.5 Syns each, which is pretty good for a quarter pounder! They cost £2.25 for a box of 4 and can be found in the frozen section.
Asda Vegetarian Chickpea Tagine
I’m not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy a veggie meal, so I’m always looking at the vegetarian options that are available.
Even when I’m out for a meal, I’ll often be tempted by something from the vegetarian menu.
Asda have added this Vegetarian Chickpea Tagine to their ambient range of tinned products.
I usually keep a tin of Stagg Vegetable Chilli in the cupboard as a quick emergency meal, as it’s Syn free and tastes pretty good.
This Vegetarian Chickpea Tagine is on the Syns Online database at 7 Syns per 1/2 can and costs £1.50 from Asda.
Asda Vegetarian Bolognese
Asda have another new veggie product on the shelves this week, with this vegetarian bolognese.
Sitting right next to the Chickpea Tagine, this is another of those tinned products that would be handy to keep in the cupboard.
It reheats in just 4 minutes on the hob, so if you’re in a rush you can have a meal on the plate in the time it takes to cook some spaghetti!
This is on the Slimming World website for 4 Syns per 200g serving, which is half a can. It’s priced at £1.50 per can from Asda.
Asda Curried Chickpeas
Our last vegetarian choice for this week is this pouch of curried chickpeas. As with the vegetarian canned products listed above, this is an ambient product.
It can happily sit in the cupboard until you need it, saving valuable fridge space.
The pouch contains a mix of chickpeas, chana dal lentils, brown rice and red lentils with curry spices.
You can heat on the hob or in the microwave, so it’s a quick and easy choice.
This product is listed on Syns Online at 2 Syns for the 250g pouch and costs £1.29 from Asda.
Asda Lemon & Lime Slices
Adding a slice of lemon or lime to a drink can really give it that finishing touch.
The trouble is, I often end up buying a net of lemons or limes, having a couple of drinks then forgetting about them.
This inevitably means that I’ll find a shrivelled up citrus fruit that’s definitely seen better days knocking around in the fruit bowl.
Step forward these individually frozen slices of lemon and lime from Asda.
Perfect to keep in the freezer, they will add subtle flavour and keep your favourite drink cool, too. How’s that for multi-tasking!
Even better, lemons and limes are both on the speed foods list. A 350g bag costs £1.75 from Asda.
Asda Summer Cup Mix
Okay, so we’re officially into autumn now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cling onto the memories of what has been a very good summer!
This obviously includes enjoying a glass of Pimms or two when the mood takes you.
This Summer Cup Mix from Asda was created to compliment their own version of Pimms, called ‘Summer Cup’.
It’s a mix of cucumber, strawberry, spiced orange pellet and mint. It’s not on the Slimming World database, so I’ve used the Syns calculator.
This Summer Cup mix works out at 1 Syn per 1/3 of a pack, although personally I wouldn’t use that much in a single drink, so the recommended portion size of 1/3 of a bag is probably for making a jug of this at a time. (Hic!)
It’s priced at £1.75 for a 350g bag.
Muller Light Banoffee Pie
Several people have shared this new Muller Light flavour in the Facebook group this week, so we thought we should include it here too!
Muller Light regularly bring out limited edition flavours in their extensive range of yogurts, so this new Banoffee Pie flavour may not be around for long.
It will probably depend on how popular it is.
As far as we know, this flavour is exclusive to Iceland at the moment, so we don’t know if it will be rolled out to other supermarkets.
It costs 68p per pot, but Iceland has a 4 for £2.00 offer at the moment.
Muller Light Syn values have been re-evaluated by Slimming World Head Office. These now have a value of 1 Syn per 175g pot.
McVities Choc Filled Thins Milk Choc/DoubleChoc
McVities Thins first hit the shelves at the beginning of 2017 and were an instant hit. We featured them in our Shopping Essentials article in Feb 2017.
There have been several additions, with other biscuit brands jumping on the bandwagon too.
These thins have been really popular with Slimming Worlders, as they give you all the taste of your favourite biscuits with fewer Syns.
Now McVities have come up with these Choc Filled Digestive Thins. Solid chocolate sandwiched between two thin, crispy digestive biscuits.
Perfect for enjoying with a cuppa, and only 3 Syns per biscuit.

I must stress the following…
Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
