Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 532,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
If you’re a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll know that we always bring you a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World always recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Sainsbury’s Ruby Grapefruit
Grapefruit is a really tangy, refreshing fruit and it’s Speed food too! Perfect for an anytime snack.
Peeling a grapefruit can seem such a chore at times though, so this prepared Ruby Grapefruit is great, because the hard work has all been done for you!
The only peeling you need to do will be to take the lid off, then you can sit back and enjoy this delicious fruit with no mess or fuss.
Sainsbury’s Ruby Grapefruit is sold in a 160g pot and costs £1.50.
Little Leaves Hot Mix
A prepared bag of salad leaves offers a great way to add one third of a plate of speed food to any meal.
This fiery mix of wasabi rocket, mustard, rocket and bulls blood leaves combines a punchy pepperiness with earthy mustard and horseradish notes.
This mix of leaves would go really well with our Syn Free Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki.
This salad selection is unwashed, which means the leaves stay fresher for longer. A quick rinse before you serve up and you’re good to go!
This Little Leaves Hot Mix is available from Ocado in a 125g bag, which costs £1.49.
Little Leaves Healthy Mix
Little Leaves have added a new Healthy Mix selection of salad leaves to their range. This gives you another easy way to introduce some Speed Food to your meals.
This is a nutritious and tasty mix of pea shoots, baby kale and spinach.
This salad selection would be ideal served with our gorgeous Low Syn KFC Zinger Burgers.
Little Leaves Healthy Mix salad are available from Ocado, priced at £1.49 for a 125g bag.
Iceland Freshly Frozen Raspberries
I adore raspberries! They’re sweet and juicy, perfect for adding to breakfast and dessert recipe ideas.
Iceland have launched a range of freshly frozen fruit, which are perfect for Slimming World. The best thing about frozen fruit is that there’s no waste, as you only defrost what you need.
We know that lots of you add frozen fruit to overnight oats for a great start to the day. I often have a bowl of raspberries topped with a Syn free yogurt for a speedy breakfast or dessert.
These raspberries would be lovely served with our Syn Free Lemon and Blueberry Waffles!
The new Iceland freshly frozen fruits range includes;
- Raspberries – Speed Food
- Blueberries – Speed Food
- Pineapple, Mango and Kiwi – Free Food
- Strawberry and Banana – Speed/Free Food
- Pineapple, Orange and Mango Speed/Free Food
- Red Fruits – Speed Food
Waitrose Kiwi Berries
We’ve featured Kiwi Berries previously in a Shopping Essentials round up, but the season is very short, so while they’re here, it’s worth mentioning them again!
Kiwi Berries look very much like the original Kiwi fruit from New Zealand, but Kiwi berries are a fraction of the size and most are grown on British farms.
Unlike their larger cousins, Kiwi berries don’t have the furry-ness, which means they can be eaten whole and taste even sweeter than a Kiwi fruit. They’re a free food, but not speed, sadly.
They’re just coming into season which means you’ll probably see them in a supermarket near you soon.
Waitrose Kiwi Berries cost £2.50 for a 125g punnet.
Birds Eye Chickpea Spinach Vegetable Mix
Birds Eye are one of the most famous purveyors of frozen foods, they’ve been around pretty much since freezers were invented!
Now Birds Eye have created this frozen mix of Chickpeas, Spinach, Cauliflower and Lentils, all of which are Speed foods and Protein foods.
The combination of Chickpeas, Spinach, Cauliflower and Lentils is ready to cook with your choice of spice and flavour in soups, curries, vegetarian burgers, salads and casseroles.
Birds Eye Chickpea Spinach Vegetable Mix is available from Tesco, priced a £2.00 for a 450g bag.
Fishermans King Prawns
If you like prawns, you’re going to love these!
Peeled and cooked King Prawns, ready to eat straight from the packet or to add as an ingredient in one of our recipes. They’re a ‘P’ food too!
You can rustle up a really quick lunch or a banquet-worthy evening meal with prawns, and these are great value, too.
Fishermans King Prawns are available from Sainsbury’s and cost £2.20 for a 140g pack.
Morrisons Market Street Cod Fillets
You’ve probably heard our mantra before, but we believe that ‘If it swims, it slims!’
We usually find that we get a good loss on the scales if we’ve had a couple of fish recipes through the week. Fish is packed with protein, making it an ideal choice.
One of our favourites is this Syn Free Fish Pie.
Morrisons Market Street often have some cracking deals on meat and fish multi-buy offers, and this week is no exception!
There’s an amazing 3 for £10 offer on packs of Cod Fillets, but you can mix and match with Salmon Fillets, Haddock or Smoked Haddock Fillets, so there’s plenty of choice.
If you’ve never tried our Low Syn Smoked Haddock and Spring Onion Fishcakes then you’ve been missing out!
Morrisons Market Street Cod Fillets are part of the 3 for £10 deal, or to buy individually at £4.00 per pack.
Sainsbury’s 21 Day Matured Extra Lean Beef Roasting Joint
We all love a good roast dinner, don’t we?
It’s so easy to enjoy a satisfying roast with all the trimmings when you’re on the Slimming World plan.
You don’t have to miss out on anything, not even the Yorkshire puds, with our Half Syn Yorkshire Pudding recipe!
This Matured Extra Lean Beef Roasting joint is described as ‘Extremely lean, but tender and delicious to eat’, in a customer review on the Sainsbury’s website.
Why not enjoy Syn Free Roast Beef and Gravy this weekend? The beef is free once any visible fat is removed.
Sainsbury’s 21 Day Matured Extra Lean Beef Roasting Joint costs £6.00 for a 500g joint.
Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Unsmoked Dry Cured British Bacon Medallions
Earlier, I mentioned the delights of a Slimming World Sunday roast, but the weekend doesn’t start for me until I’ve had a bacon buttie!
One of my favourite choices is this Perfect Low Syn BLT sandwich. Nom nom!
The quality of the bacon can make or break your perfect breakfast buttie, and this Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference is a great choice.
Delicious British bacon medallions made from outdoor bred pork, hand cured with sea salt before maturing and air drying.
You could even make our Low Syn Bacon, Potato & Onion Bake with them!
The medallions have already been trimmed, so all visible fat should have been removed, making them free on Slimming World.
These Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Unsmoked Dry Cured British Bacon Medallions are priced at £2.50 for a pack of 8 medallions.
Quorn Vegan Chicken/Smoky Ham Free Slices
In the Shopping Essentials articles each week, we try to include products that will offer a choice to all our members, particularly if they can only eat foods that are free from certain ingredients.
This week, we’ve found these Quorn Vegan Deli Slices, in Smoky Ham or Chicken flavour. These would be great in a sandwich, or to throw into a salad, for a quick and tasty lunch option.
You could use these Quorn Vegan Deli Slices in recipes, too! They’re free on the Slimming World database.
Both flavours are available from Sainbury’s priced at £2.00 for a 100g pack.
Warburtons Wholemeal Protein Thins
It’s always useful to know which thins can be used as a Healthy Extra choice.
These Warburtons Wholemeal Protein Thins have been around for a little while, and they are listed as an HEB option on the Syns Online database.
If you’re not using as your HEB, they are 5.5 Syns each.
Availability has been limited, but they’re now available from Sainsbury’s, as well as from Asda and Morrisons.
Ideal for a sandwich, or even for dipping into our Syn Free French Onion Soup.
A pack of 4 Warburtons Wholemeal Protein Thins costs £1.20 from Sainsbury’s.
Blue Dragon Oyster Sauce 150ml
Before I discovered Pinch of Nom, I had never cooked with Oyster sauce. I quickly discovered that it’s a fab ingredient for the most delicious dishes!
Oyster sauce adds a real depth of flavour, which makes your finished dish taste a-maze-ing! It’s great for making your very own authentic tasting Fakeaway recipes.
One of my favourites is this Syn Free Stir Fried Beef with Ginger and Spring Onions.
Oyster Sauces are all listed as free on Syns Online. This 150ml bottle is now available from Sainsbury’s, priced at £1.80.
Arla Skyr Icelandic Style Yogurt Layered with Pear, Apple & Cinnamon
Skyr yogurt has been popular for some time now. It’s thicker and creamier than some other types of yogurt.
As with all yogurts, it’s important to check each brand on the Slimming World app, as Fat Free doesn’t automatically mean Syn Free. It’s an easy mistake to make!
This Arla Skyr Fat Free Icelandic Style Strained Yogurt layered with Pear, Apple & Cinnamon is new to Sainsbury’s this week.
It’s a thick and creamy, fat free, reduced sugar yogurt which is high in protein. It’s listed on the Syns Online database at 1 Syn per pot and is currently on offer from Sainsbury’s at 60p per pot.
Aldi Brooklea Skinny Latte Yogurt
One of our lovely Facebook group members posted a photo of this new flavour yogurt earlier this week.
I was always a huge fan of the Muller Light coffee shop flavours, but they were a limited edition, so I haven’t been able to get hold of them for a while.
Aldi Brooklea Skinny Latte yogurt is another limited edition, so if you like this flavour, grab some while you can.
This Skinny Latte flavour is listed as Free on the Syns Online database. A 175g pot costs just 30p from Aldi.
Alpro Ready To Drink Coffee and Soya Caramel
If you pop into any high street coffee shop, you’ll see a mind-boggling menu of hot and chilled drink choices. I have to admit, I usually play it safe and have an Americano.
This Alpro Ready To Drink Coffee Soya Caramel just might give you the caffeine-fuelled hit that you need.
It’s a rich blend of coffee with soya caramel and is naturally lactose free. It also has less sugar than other brands of ready to drink latte.
This works out at 2 Syns per 100ml according to the Slimming World Syns calculator.
It’s available from Morrisons, priced at £2.42 per litre.
Nestle Smarties Sticks
I spotted these Smarties Fun Sticks Ice Creams in Tesco earlier this week. These are the perfect size to satisfy that ice cream craving
They are made from vanilla ice cream with a partial chocolate flavour coating and Smarties milk chocolate in a crisp sugar shell.
Halo Top – on offer again!
Since the UK launch of Halo Top in January, it’s been the talk of the town. The first time it was put on offer, the shelves were cleared in a matter of hours!
Tesco have now got Halo Top on offer again – for all the details, have a look here!
Carte D’or Les Supremes Pavlova Ice Cream Dessert
The Shopping Essentials round up at the beginning of March featured Haagen Dazs Caramel Collection mini cups ice creams.
This week, we thought we bring another indulgent luxury treat your way. Carte D’or Les Supremes Pavlova Ice Creams.
These desserts are made from dairy ice cream, vanilla flavour ice cream, raspberry sauce and meringue pieces. They’re relatively high in Syns, but still come within the daily allowance of 5-15 Syns.
Sainsbury’s Double Mint & Lemon Verbena Infusion Tea Bags
You’ll already know that it’s important to drink plenty and stay hydrated when you’re following the Slimming World plan.
It’s great to find new drink choices to keep things interesting, so I was pleased to find these Double Mint and Lemon Verbena infusion tea bags in Sainsbury’s.
They are a blend of refreshing peppermint and spearmint with a hint of lemon verbena, made with all-natural ingredients. Free from artificial colours and flavours and no caffeine.
A box of 20 Double Mint and Lemon Verbena Infusion teabags costs £1.75 from Sainsbury’s.
Shopping Essentials Top Pick
Our Shopping Essentials Top Pick is a featured highlight of the week! This week, we’ve chosen Onken Light & Fruity Yogurts.
