Lidl Pick of the Week
Our first selection for this week’s list comes from Lidl.
As it’s a budget supermarket, there is always a good selection of fruit and vegetables in their weekly special offers.
The prices are purse-friendly, too!

Sainsbury’s Four Berry Medley Frozen Fruit
Frozen fruit is a great way to save time, money and waste.
The beauty of frozen produce is that you only defrost what you need, so nothing is wasted.
This new Four Berry Medley from Sainsbury’s has a combination of four berries, Blackberries, Blackcurrants, Raspberries and Strawberries.
The best news of all is that they’re all Speed foods.
We know that lots of you use frozen berries in Overnight Oats recipes, as the juice from the defrosting berries adds to the flavour.
This 1 Kg bag of Four Berry Medley Frozen Fruit costs £3.50 from Sainsbury’s.

This offer is STRICTLY LIMITED to 100 Hampers.

Yutaka Soba Noodles
We love Noodles!
They’re so versatile. Fantastic to chuck in a stir fry for a super quick supper when you’re short on time.
They’re really easy to prepare, just throw them into a pan of boiling water whilst you’re frying off some meat and veg in the wok.
It doesn’t have to be as basic as a Stir Fry though, we have a delicious recipe for Syn Free Teriyaki & Chilli Salmon that we serve with noodles too.
How about using them for our fabulous Syn Free Ramen Noodle Bowls.
This recipe is an amazing way to pack in loads of flavour, along with a mountain of Speed foods.
Yutaka Soba Noodles are Japanese style noodles, so absolutely fab for this dish. They’re free on the SW website.
Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauce
Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauces are new to Tesco.
I’m delighted, as this brand is one of my favourites, but it’s not always easy to get hold of.
Both the Light Soy and Dark Premium Soy varieties are available.
Light Soy Sauce is usually used to season and alter the flavour of dishes, whilst Dark Soy Sauce is used to add flavour, seasoning and colour.
Soy sauce is free on Syns Online, too.
This one is loved by the whole family, so I make it quite often.
Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauce is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is naturally brewed, with no added preservatives.
It’s sold in 250ml bottles which cost £1.75 in Tesco.
Yutaka Organic Tamari Soy Sauce
Over in the Facebook group, people often ask us about Soy Sauce alternatives for those following a Gluten Free diet.
This Yutaka Organic Tamari Soy Sauce is Gluten Free, so perfect if you’re on a GF eating plan.
This can be used in place of normal Soy sauce in recipes, meaning that those who are gluten intolerant can still enjoy Chinese Fakeaways!
Our gorgeous Low Syn Jerk Chicken recipe can be made using this Yukata Organic Tamari Soy Sauce too! You could make it tonight…NOM!!
A 150ml bottle costs £2.00 from Tesco. It’s free on Syns Online.
When you’re following the Slimming World plan, all dried pasta is free food.
The biggest decision is often which pasta shape to choose!
Certain pasta shapes are suited to particular recipes, and we have loads to choose from on the website!
Napolina Tortiglioni is made using bronze-cut dies, creating a textured pasta with a rough surface.
This allows sauces to stick during cooking for more flavour, and the pasta holds more sauce, too.
Our Syn Free Creamy Tomato Pasta recipe would work brilliantly with this pasta.
Napolina Tortiglioni bronze die pasta is available from Tesco, priced at £1.89 for a 500g pack.
PB Fit Peanut Butter Powder
Peanut Butter is one of those products that will always be Synned…sigh!
If you’re a fan of peanut butter, you’ll know that you have to sacrifice a few Syns to enjoy this nutty treat, but with powdered peanut butter, you get more bang for your buck!
1 level tablespoon is only 1.5 Syns on the SW database.
This isn’t a new product, but we’ve spotted this week that it’s being stocked in Aldi stores now.
This should make it easier to get hold of for many of you.
How good does that look!
It’s available in Aldi stores, priced at £3.45 for a 225g jar.
Sacla Reduced Fat Pesto
Pesto is a quick and easy way to add flavour to cooked pasta and other recipes.
We even have a really tasty recipe for Syn Free Rocket & Basil Pesto on the Pinch of Nom website!
In pre-Slimming World days, I’d always have a jar of pesto on standby in the kitchen cupboard.
It meant I could cook some pasta and stir the pesto through for a really quick (lazy!) meal.
Of course, whilst the pasta was cooking, I’d also have a garlic bread crisping up nicely in the oven.
These days, I can still enjoy the Syn Free Cheesy Garlic Bread, Pinch of Nom style!
Syn free too, if I haven’t had my Healthy Extras for the day. Bonus!
Sacla now have two new varieties of reduced fat pesto;
- Reduced Fat Basil Pesto – 2 Syns per level tbsp
- Reduced Fat Tomato Pesto – 1.5 Syns per tbsp
We have worked out Syn values using the SW Lifeline Online Syns Calculator.
Loyd Grossman No Added Sugar Tomato & Chilli Sauce
We love cooking, and our website is testament to this! It’s full of fabulous recipes that we love making and eating.
Take a look at our recipe index on the website for loads of meal inspiration.
Sometimes though, you just don’t have time to cook from scratch.
In these situations, it’s handy to have a packet or jar in the cupboard that you know is low in Syns.
It’s a sort of damage limitation exercise, to stop you reaching for the takeaway menu.
This Loyd Grossman No Added Sugar Tomato & Chilli sauce would be perfect for chicken, seafood or vegetables, served with pasta for a quick and easy meal.
If you can’t get enough pasta, take a look at all our delish recipes here.
Tesco Chilli Balsamic Glaze
‘What dressings do you put on your salads to liven them up?’
It’s one of the most frequently asked questions in our Facebook group.
Well, this week I found something new, and it’s really delicious!
This is a dressing with a bit of a kick, and at only 1.5 Syns per tablespoon it’s not going to break the Syns bank.
I love balsamic vinegar. The thick stickiness of this glaze combined with a taste of chilli is really lovely.
It makes a nice change from low Syn mayo or salad cream. Tesco Chilli Balsamic glaze costs £1.50 for a 215ml bottle.
Flava-It Sweet Chilli Marinade
Temperatures are cooler this week, much more comfortable for working and sleeping!
However, I’m missing the blue skies and sunshine, and the chance to fire up the coals to cook dinner.
Flava-It marinades allow you to flavour meat, fish, vegetables in just 10 minutes, then just oven bake, barbecue, grill or stir-fry.
Couldn’t be easier!
Sweet chilli flavour is a new addition to the range.
Benecol Fruit & Nut/Fruit & Oat Bars
There are some things that I don’t mind spending my Syns on.
You might want to spend yours on real butter to spread on your Healthy Extra toast for breakfast, or a glass or two of wine.
Syns are part of the plan and are there to stop you feeling deprived!
If I’m not using my Syns for gin, or chocolate, or…(you get the idea) then I love a decent, chunky, chewy cereal bar.
Benecol Fruit & Nut/Fruit & Oat bars are just that, chunky, chewy and satisfying.
They’re free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, and they’re high in fibre too.
- Raisin And Hazelnut Bars – 8.5 Syns each
- Apricot, Almond And Pumpkin Bars – 8.5 Syns each
- Blueberry And Cranberry Bars – 8 Syns each
Mr Kipling Flapjack/Cherry Bakewell Flapjack Squares
When I was writing about the Benecol bars above, I said I didn’t mind spending my Syns on something nice.
Flapjacks are one of those treats that really had to be ditched once I started my Slimming World journey, as they are so high in Syns.
To be fair, you’ve only got to look at the ingredients to see why.
Butter, demerara sugar and golden syrup usually feature high on the list, so it’s little wonder they’re off the chart!
Our Low Syn Cranberry & Almond Oat Cookies are brilliant for satisfying the flapjack craving whilst staying firmly on track.
These new Mr Kipling Flapjacks should come with a big Slimming World warning triangle, because they’re a whopping 13.5 Syns each!
That would wipe out most of your Syns allowance for the day, just in a snack.
If you’re really craving Flapjack, you could maybe cut them in half to minimise the Syns damage!
You can buy both flavours in Asda, priced at £1.00 per pack.
KitKat Bites Orange
KitKat have brought together a classic combination of flavours for this latest incarnation of their KitKat Bites. Chocolate and Orange.
Each piece is 1.5 Syns, using the Snackulator on the SW website.
The KitKat Bites range already has Original, Peanut Butter and White Chocolate flavour.
At the moment, they’re only available from Morrisons, priced at £1.00 for a 104g bag.
All other flavours are shown on Syns Online at 1.5 Syns per piece.
Morrisons Tropical Swirls Ice Cream
The weather might be a little bit cooler and wetter this week, but it’s still August, so we’re not done with summer just yet.
With this in mind, we’ve spotted these new Morrisons Tropical Swirls lollies, listed on Syns Online at 5 Syns each.
They are very similar to a Walls Solero, an ice cream centre, with a fruity sauce swirled through, and a sorbet coating.
The ingredients for the fruit sauce and coating include mango, passionfruit, peach and pineapple.
A box of 3 x 100ml lollies is priced at £1.00 from Morrisons.
Nescafe Gold Gingerbread Latte Flavour
In the Shopping Essentials round up last week, we featured Cool Mint Mocha from the Nescafé coffee shop range.
This week we’ve spotted another new option, Gingerbread Latte flavour.
If you want to indulge yourself a little bit, without paying Barista prices, these could be right up your street.
A box of 8 sachets costs £2.50, so you’re saving a fortune on high street coffee shop money.
Nescafé Gold Gingerbread Latte are listed on the SW app at 4.5 Syns each. You’ll find these in Asda.
Cadbury Highlights Milk/Bournville Chocolate
I’m desperately clinging on to the last few weeks of summer, but there’s no denying that the evenings are starting to draw in.
Once September arrives and the children are heading back to school, we’ll be on that slippery slope to Autumn.
For me, that means fewer long cool drinks in the garden, replaced with a cuppa or better still, a hot chocolate!
It was the Bourneville Dark chocolate that jumped out when I spotted these.
I love Bourneville chocolate, and these will give you that chocolate hit without having to use quite as many Syns.
Both the milk and dark chocolate varieties are 2 Syns per 11g. (This is the same amount as you get in a single sachet.)
Fallen off the wagon and need some motivation, or want to help others on their journey?

You might just find the inspiration you need from our awesome members. If you’ve joined already why not invite any friends that may find it helpful?
I must stress the following…
Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
