Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 649,000 members it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our New Slimming World Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), but you can join up using the link below for the latest news and discussions on brand new Slimming World-friendly products.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
ASDA Beetroot, Baby Spinach & Baby Kale Salad
We’re always looking for more ways to add that all important 1/3 Speed food to our plate. Bagged salads from the supermarket are a great choice. Different leaf selections mean that you can choose a salad mix to suit you.
This Asda prepared salad is a mix of beetroot with baby spinach and baby kale leaves. The baby leaves are tender and full of flavour, great for throwing onto your plate to food optimise your meal. It comes in a 120g bag and costs 60p from Asda.
Lidl Pick of the Week
We often feature budget supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi in our speed food selection as they have a weekly offer on a seasonal choice of fruit and veg.
This week we’ve picked Lidl as the Pick of the Week choices this week are all Speed foods;
- Courgettes – make our Syn Free Lasagne Courgette Boats
- Tomatoes – delicious in Syn Free Tomato & Basil Chicken
- Fine green beans – serve with our Low Syn Smoked Haddock & Creamy Mustard Sauce
- Sweet red pointed peppers – perfect for our Syn Free Dirty Fries
All four of these vegetables are priced at 99p per pack. The offer is valid from 19th July to 25th July.
Tesco Fat Free Fromage Frais
Fromage Frais is a low fat, curd cheese made from pasteurised milk. It’s a versatile ingredient for sweet or savoury dishes, dips and sauces. You can even use it to make this yummy 3 Syn a Slice Coconut & Lemon Curd Cake.
This extra thick, spoonable Healthy Living Fat Free Fromage Frais is now available in a 500g pot from Tesco. I even love a big dollop of this on top of fresh fruit for a quick and simple breakfast or dessert.
Farmfoods Veggie Kitchen Range
Farmfoods has launched a vegan range of products which look pretty good. There are some very favourable reviews online for these products too. I popped into my local Farmfoods store this week and found lots of really great stuff!
I often get a flyer through the door for Farmfoods. They have some good offers on bags of frozen fruit and vegetables which are a very cost-effective way to get your intake of speed foods. It’s certainly worth popping in for a look if you have a branch nearby!
You could use the Veggie Kitchen Mince to make a delicious vegetarian/vegan version of our very popular Syn Free Enchilada Lasagne.
The meat free Veggie Kitchen range is suitable for Vegans. The range is high in protein, high in fibre and low in saturated fat. Products available include;
- Mince – free on Syns online
- Meatballs – 0.5 Syns for 3 meatballs
- Burgers – 1 Syn each
- Sausages – 0.5 Syns each
As you can see, unlike many vegetarian/vegan alternatives, these products are pleasingly low in Syns. Each pack is priced at £2.00, or you can also pick up 2 packs for £3.00 from Farmfoods.
Thomas Fudge’s Chickpea & Sesame Flatbreads
I’m always on the lookout for something a bit different when it comes to savoury snacks and crackers. These crisp chickpea flatbreads are spiced with aromatic cumin and topped with a mix of seeds for extra nuttiness.
I’ve enjoyed a few of these dunked into our Syn Free Red Pepper Hummus, as a delicious way to satisfy those evening munchies.
Van Der Meulen Melba Thins
When you start your Slimming World journey, you often make changes for healthier, lower Syn options. One of the things I missed was that crunch factor when it came to snacks and crackers.
These Melba Thins are a great way to add a crispy bite to your lunch or snacking options. You can enjoy them with a dip, with a salad, even to dunk in a soup, like our Syn Free Roasted Garlic & Beetroot Soup.
Each 20g portion is individually wrapped, so the Melba Thins retain their crispy texture until you’re ready to eat them. The 20g portions are 4 Syns each.
Yushoi Inclusion Chickpea snacks
The range of savoury snacks on the market seems to grow by the day, with a mind-boggling array of alternative ingredients. I’ve taken a more active interest recently as my daughter has just started a Gluten Free Diet, so I’m reading every label carefully.
These Yoshoi Inclusion Chickpea snacks are made from a popped Chickpea base with real vegetable flavourings, including tomato or roasted onion. They’re high in fibre, low in saturated fat, gluten free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Yoshoi Inclusion Chickpea Snacks are available in two varieties, Fire Roasted Chipotle and Caramelised Onion & Balsamic Vinegar flavours. Both work out at 4.5 Syns per 21g serving.
Koko Dairy Free No Added Sugar
If you are a regular reader of our weekly Slimming World Shopping Essentials list, you’ll know that we try to include products for alternative dietary requirements.
Members of our Facebook group often ask about Dairy Free alternatives, especially the ones that are suitable to use as a Healthy Extra.
Koko Dairy Free No Added Sugar is made with freshly pressed coconut milk, so it’s an unsweetened dairy free alternative to milk.
- Dairy, lactose, soya and gluten free
- Free from animal fats
- No added sugar
- Free from artificial flavours, preservatives and colourings
- Suitable for vegans
- Vegetarian Society approved
- Suitable for coeliacs, vegans and those with nut allergies
The Healthy Extra allowance is 500ml, or 4 Syns. If you’d rather choose something else as your HEA choice, you can Syn this at 1 Syn per 100ml. A 1 litre carton costs £1.50 from Tesco. You can pick it up here, on the Tesco website.
Flipz Dark Chocolate Pretzels
I talked earlier in this article about missing a good crunch when it comes to snacking. One of the other things that we have to be more measured about on Slimming World is chocolate, for obvious reasons!
Having said that, nothing is banned if it’s Slimming World planned! As long as you’ve got a few Syns saved up, you can enjoy a treat, guilt-free. These dark chocolate Flipz pretzels really hit the spot and satisfy both cravings in one go.
A 25g serving of these Flipz Dark Chocolate Pretzels will cost you 6 Syns, so you can easily enjoy them within your 5-15 Syns allowance for the day.
Mr Kipling James’ Peach Fancies
The humble fondant fancy has been around since, well…forever! Mr Kipling has long been associated with sweet treats, cakes, slices and other baked goodies.
In a recent Slimming World Shopping Essentials round up, we featured some of the Roald Dahl limited edition range of Mr Kipling cakes. Whilst out and about on my research visits this week, I spotted these beauties, too!
Traditionally, the French Fancy consists of a cube of sponge cake, with a vanilla cream topping and coated in soft, flavoured fondant icing. With a nod to James & the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, these French fancies have a peach-flavoured fondant icing.
These cakes work out at 5 Syns each using the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website. A box of 8 Mr Kipling James’ Peach Fancies costs £1.00 in Morrisons.
Penguin Ice Cream cake bars
If you thought that the name Penguin was only linked to biscuits, I’ve got news for you. Penguin cake bars have been out for a while, but these limited edition ice cream flavours are new, and they look pretty tasty!
They’re available in two flavours, Neapolitan and Mint Choc. The Neapolitan flavour has strawberry flavoured sponge, topped with a layer of cream and biscuit pieces, then coated in milk chocolate.
The Mint Choc flavour has mint sponge, with a mint cream and biscuit layer, covered in milk chocolate. Both flavours work out at 6 Syns using the Syns calculator.
Rolo snack fridge bars
I spotted these in Tesco earlier this week and just had to share them here! They are the epitome of a ‘naughty but nice’ treat. Chocolate sponge, with fluffy choc mousse, a layer of caramel and a chocolate coating.
The good news is that you can have one (or even two!) of these and still be within your Syns allowance for the day. I quite like to save the majority of my Syns for the evening, which is when I tend to get the munchies.
I used the Snackulator to calculate the Syn value, as it’s a branded snack. Each Rolo Snack Fridge Bar is 7 Syns. A box of 4 bars costs £2.00 from Tesco. You can pick them up here, on the Tesco website.
Lion Breakfast Cereal bars
One of our Facebook group members, Yazmin, posted these in the group this week. Having searched the supermarket websites for more information, I was beginning to give up hope, but found them by chance when I popped into Poundland this week.
Based on the flavours and ingredients in a Lion chocolate bar, but with added cereals. That instantly makes them healthier, right? Well, yes! If you look up a Lion chocolate bar on Syns Online, they’re an eye-watering 12 Syns each.
These Lion Breakfast cereal bars are listed at 5 Syns on the Slimming World website. They come in a box of 6 and are available in Poundland, priced at £1.00 per packet.
Nat from our Facebook group shared a picture of these Toblerone Tinys last week, so tracking them down was the main reason for my trip to Poundland!
Toblerone has got to be one of my favourite chocolate brands. Although to be fair, I have quite a long list of favourite brands! These are available in white chocolate or milk chocolate, each piece is 2 Syns when worked out on the Snackulator.
This bag of Toblerone Tinys is available from Poundland, priced at £2.00.
Asda Afternoon Tea Selection
If you have ever been out for afternoon tea, you’ll know that it’s a really luxurious treat. You probably thought that an afternoon tea was something to be avoided on Slimming World, but we think we’ve found the answer.
This Asda Afternoon tea selection has all the flavours you love in miniature, so you can enjoy a proper Afternoon Tea.
- Choux pastry éclairs with a chocolate cream filling and chocolate flavoured topping – 2.5 Syns each
- Ring doughnuts with lemon flavour topping and sugar decorations – 3 Syns each
- Sponge cakes with a sweetened cream filling and a strawberry jam finished with a sweet dusting – 2 Syns each
- Filled meringue confectionery made with almonds and a raspberry flavoured filling – 2.5 Syns each
All Syn values have been worked out using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website. The box contains 42 frozen miniature cakes, so you can defrost as many as you need at a time. It costs £4.00 from Asda.
Tetley Cold Infusions
In several of the recent Shopping Essentials round ups, we’ve included cold infusion tea bags. The first were from Twinings, initially only available from the Twinings website, but now available in most supermarkets.
Last week we brought news that Sainsbury’s had launched their own brand of Cold Infusion bags too. It seems that the world and his wife want to get involved, as Tetley have now launched a range of cold infusion flavours.
These were on sale in Sainsbury’s this week, but too new to be listed on the store’s website. They’re available in 4 flavours;
- Mint, lemon & cucumber
- Raspberry & cranberry
- Orange & peach
- Passion fruit & Mango
Tetley Cold Infusions have no caffeine, sugar or artificial flavours and are Syn free. They come in a box of 12 bags, and cost £2.50 from Sainsbury’s.
Tesco Mixed Berry Helter Skelters
It’s been a glorious summer so far, with wall to wall sunshine and blue skies most of the time. Finding delicious, low Syn ways to stay cool has been important, so we’ve included lots of ideas in the Slimming World Shopping Essentials lists.
These Mixed Berry Helter Skelter lollies from Tesco are another fabulous option. Strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and blueberry flavoured ice lollies made with fruit purée and fruit juice from concentrate.
YooMoo Frozen Yogurt Lollies
These frozen yogurt lollies from YooMoo look so refreshing. I found them in Tesco this week whilst I cruised the freezers with my trolley looking for potential shopping list products.
They are available in Mixed Berry, Strawberry and Tropical flavours and they’re listed on Syns Online at 3.5 Syns each. They contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and are suitable for vegetarians.
YooMoo Frozen Yogurt lollies come in a box of 6 lollies and cost £2.20 per pack. They’re currently on offer at 2 boxes for £3.00 until 6.8.18.
Pops Pimm’s Ice Popsicles
I’m sure these Pimms Ice Popsicles were calling my name from the freezers at Tesco one day this week! Made from Pimms No1 Cup, with lemonade, cucumber, strawberries and mint, they have an ABV of 4.3% and are very, very nice!
As an added bonus, these Pimms Ice Popsicles work out at 1.5 Syns each using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website. A box of 2 popsicles costs £2.50 from Tesco. You can find them here, on the Tesco website.
Baileys Mini Delights
Every now and again, we all deserve a treat, and it looks as though Baileys have decided that we do too! These new Baileys Original Mini Delights look amazing. We’ve also heard on the grapevine that there is a salted caramel version on the way.
The nutritional information available on the supermarket websites is limited at the moment, so it’s not been possible to find out detailed information per chocolate.
Even the Syns Online database can only list the Syn content for the entire 102g bag – 29.5 Syns! All we can suggest is that you proceed with caution until a more detailed Syns breakdown is available.
Morrisons are selling this 102g bag for £2.00 at the moment. You’ll need to do a bit of crafty maths to check the Syn values per portion, unless you plan on scoffing the lot!(Please don’t!) Remember that the Syn value for the full bag is 29.5 Syns!
Halo Top New Flavours & Non Dairy Options
On Wednesday we broke the news that Halo Top had added three amazing new flavours to its range of Low Syn Ice Creams!
