Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 308,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!), one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.

Tesco White Ghost Pumpkin
You can’t have failed to notice over the last couple of weeks that the shops are full of spooky Halloween offerings.
I have carved all sorts of weird and wonderful creations out of pumpkins over the years with my kids, from grinning to gurning faces.
I’ve always been a bit lazy, scraping out the seeds and flesh of the pumpkin and throwing them away.
Of course, this year I’ll be using the flesh to make something yummy, such as our Low Syn Spiced Pumpkin Cake
We’ve spotted several new varieties of pumpkin in the shops over the last week.
To ring the changes and make things a bit more exciting, we have a White Ghost Pumpkin. It’s about the size of a football.
The best bit about pumpkin is that it’s a member of the squash family, so it’s Speed food!
You’ll find these in Tesco priced at £1.00 each.
Tesco Red Devil Pumpkin
Also spotted in Tesco this week was this Red Devil Pumpkin.
The skin is a deep orangey-red colour and it’s flatter and more squat in appearance.
As it’s a member of the squash family, you can use this Red Devil Pumpkin to make recipes that usually use Butternut squash, like this Curried Butternut Squash Soup.
The Red Devil Pumpkin is available from Tesco. They’re priced at £1.00
ASDA Coconut Milk Alternative – New HEA choice
This week we were really excited to discover ASDA Coconut Milk Alternative.
We got even more excited when we found out that this is a new Healthy Extra A choice!
As you know, Slimming World regularly updates the products that are given Healthy Extra status, adding new products and removing others.
This ASDA Coconut Milk Alternative gives you a very generous 625mls for your Healthy Extra A choice.
Suitable for Vegetarians.
Free From: Milk, Artificial Colours, Artificial Flavours.
This would be ideal in our 1 Syn Chicken Satay recipe.
This ASDA Coconut Milk Alternative comes in a 1 litre carton and costs just 97p
Tesco Baking Sweet Potatoes
Did you know that Sweet Potatoes are one of your Five-A-Day?
I honestly didn’t know until I heard it earlier today. I obviously had to Google it to check, but it’s true!
Regular white potatoes are too starchy to be a Five-A-Day choice, but sweet potatoes have a higher level of nutrients, especially Vitamin A, so they count!
As we all know only too well, eating your Five-A-Day when you’re following Slimming World is pretty easy to do!
Although these Sweet Potatoes are not Speed food, they’re a super versatile vegetable.
Apart from baking Sweet potatoes, why not make SW chips or a mash topping for a cottage pie.
How about making some of our Syn Free Sweet Potato Pakoras?
You could even make this amazing breakfast, our Syn Free Sweet Potato and Carrot Rostis! Mmmm, yes please!
These Baking Sweet Potatoes come in a 1kg bag from Tesco and cost £1.50
Tesco Gourmet Kale 160g
The mainstay of the Slimming World plan is to include 1/3 speed food with every meal where possible.
We like to vary our speed foods as much as possible to keep things interesting.
With this in mind, we have a couple of new Speed vegetable products for you this week.
Colourful and vibrant, this selection of kale is perfect for stir fries and salads, or served alongside a hearty stew, such as our Syn Free Balsamic Beef Stew for a filling meal which is 100% on plan.
Gourmet Kale is available from Tesco priced at £1.00 for a 160g bag.
Florette British Salad Mix 140G
Our last speed food choice this week is Florette British Salad Mix, a selection of really colourful salad leaves.
Described as a ‘Brilliantly British Tender Leaf Mix’, a bag will typically contain Spinach, Lambs Lettuce, Peppercress, Mizuna, Baby Chard and Baby Red Lettuce in varying amounts, based on availability.
This Florette British Salad Mix would be perfect served with our Low Syn Pork and Apple burgers
This colourful mix of British salad leaves is available from Tesco and costs £1.50 for a 140g bag.
Morrisons Mild Salsa / Hot Salsa
I’m always on the lookout for something to jazz up mealtimes. If I’m pushed for time, something that offers a shortcut is good too!
This week in Morrisons, I found their own-brand jars of Salsa, sitting alongside the pricier counterparts.
As I have teenagers who love the stuff, I bought a jar to try.
It went down very well, served with our Syn Free Stuffed Cheese, Onion and Bacon Burgers
It has a really zingy taste with a fresh tomato flavour.
The Mild Salsa has a Chilli rating of 1, whilst the Hot Salsa has a Chilli rating of 3.
They have no artificial colours or flavours and are suitable for vegetarians.
These cost 88p per jar and are only 0.5 Syns per tablespoon on the Slimming World app.
Jaffa Lemon And Slime Cake Bars
In last week’s Shopping Essentials round up, we featured a range of Halloween treats.
Staying on the Halloween theme, we’ve found an extra flavour for you, and it’s one of my favourites!
McVities Jaffa Lemon And Slime Cake Bars – Dark Chocolate, Light Sponge with a Zingy Lemon & Lime Flavoured Centre.
These are available from Tesco in a pack of 5 cake bars for £1.00 and work out at 5 Syns each on the Syns Calculator.
Sweet Freedom Choc Shakes
You’ll probably be aware of Sweet Freedom and their chocolate sauces and syrups.
We use the Coconut Choc Shot sauce in our Bounty Baked Oats. If you haven’t tried them, you really should!
The new Choc Shakes come in 2 different flavours;
They’ve been available exclusively from Ocado for a while, but they’re now on the shelves in Sainsburys too!
The caramel one is perfect for adding to your HEA of milk to give you a silky smooth chocolate caramel milkshake, or use the Choc Shake Banana for a chocolatey milkshakes with a bananas twist.
A drizzle of this would also taste amazing with our Low Syn Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips!
These Choc Shakes aren’t on the database yet, but the nutritional info is pretty much the same as the other Sweet Freedom products, so they work out at half a Syn per teaspoon or 2 Syns per tablespoon.
Having said that, please bear in mind that this could change if and when they are given an official Syn value.
Mcvities Penguin Yule Logs
Well, we’ve already had Christmas tasters in Slimming World groups, even if it’s only October!
The shops are all busily merchandising for the Festive Season, although I’ve yet to hear ‘Now! That’s What I Call Christmas’ playing over the speakers…
We’ve started looking at the goodies on offer to see what the Syn values look like.
Mcvities Penguin Yule Logs are Mini Rolls with Chocolate Sponge and Vanilla Flavour Cream Covered in Milk Chocolate.
They work out at 5.5 Syns each on the Syns calculator and are available in Tesco for £1.00 (6 cakes)
Mcvities Jaffa Jolly Santa Cake Bars
Another Christmas-themed cake bar, McVities Jaffa Jolly Santa Cake Bars are Dark Chocolate covered Light Sponge bars with an Orange Flavoured Centre.
The Chocolate/Orange combination is always popular. Have you tried making our fab 1 Syn Jaffa cakes yet?
These are priced at £1.00 for a pack of 5 cake bars in Tesco and work out at 5 Syns each on the Syns Calculator.
Mcvities Hobnob Rudolph Nose Teacakes
Last week’s Shopping Essentials featured a range of tea cakes from M&S and McVities.
The Christmas bandwagon (Sleigh?!) is rolling, so lots of manufacturers are packaging their products to appeal to the Christmas shopper.
These McVities Hobnob Rudolph teacakes have mallow, on an oat and wholemeal base, covered in milk chocolate.
The red foil wrappings have on them to make them look like a certain Reindeer’s glowing red nose!
The Mcvitie’s Hobnob Rudolph Nose Teacakes work out at 4 Syns each on the Syns calculator.
They come in a pack of 8 teacakes and cost just £1.00 from Tesco.
Digestives Chocolate Winter Orange Slices
Slightly less Christmassy, but a winter theme nonetheless, McVities have launched Digestives Chocolate Winter Orange Slices.
These are Orange Digestive Slices Topped with Milk Chocolate.
If you like the combination of Chocolate and Orange, you really should give these a try!
They work out at 6 Syns per bar on the Syns calculator.
They’re available from Tesco, priced at £1.00 for 5 bars.
Galaxy Chocolate Orange Cake Bars
Sticking with the favourite flavour combination, we have another mix of Chocolate and Orange.
Galaxy Festive Orange Flavoured cake bars have a chocolate cream centre covered in milk chocolate.
These will cost you an extra few Syns, as they’re 7 Syns each on the Syns calculator, but if you love Galaxy chocolate they’re worth it!
A pack of 5 bars costs £1.00 in Tesco.
Jammie Dodgers Raspberry And Oat Bites
When you think about Jammie Dodgers, I bet you think of the traditional circular shortcake biscuits, one with a heart-shaped window, sandwiched together with the stickiest jam on earth!
These Jammie Dodgers Raspberry And Oat Bites offer something a little bit different.
Mini cookies with oats and raspberry fruit pieces. They’re not on the app yet, but work out at 6 Syns per bag on the Syns Calculator.
You’ll find them on offer in Tesco, priced at £1.00 (usual price £1.69) for a pack of 5 mini bags.
Hippeas Organic Chickpea Puffs Cheese And Love 78G
We covered the Sweet N Smokin flavour of these in the Shopping Essentials list a few weeks ago.
Tesco have now started stocking some of the range, in 78g sharing bags. They are currently listing the Sweet N Smokin and the Cheese and Love flavours.
Organic, vegan, gluten-free, chick pea puffs, packed with protein and fibre.
Although this is a sharing bag at 78g, the recommended serving is 22g, which is the same as a single bag. The 22g bag is listed on the app at 4.5 Syns.
These 78g sharing bags are in Tesco and cost £1.00 (usual price £1.79, so saving 79p – bargain!)
Protein Food Shop Slow Cooker British Hamper
Protein Food Shop have their Slow Cooker British Hamper available throughout the Winter months on offer for a limited time, so you’d better pick one up while you can!
They are usually £69.95, but the first 250 order get £20 off, so that’s all this lot for £49.95
- Braising Steak 1kg
- Gammon Joint 2kg
- Rolled Silverside Beef 2kg
- Pork Leg Joint 2.5kg
The braising steak in this pack would be perfect for our Syn Free Caribbean Jerk Stew.
