Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 702,456 members – it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our New Slimming World Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), but you can join up using the link below for the latest news and discussions on brand new Slimming World-friendly products.

Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan.
If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list. Items listed in blue are linked to a recipe, too. Just click on the word to take you there.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Lidl Pick of the Week
The budget supermarkets, such as Aldi and Lidl, have fruit and vegetable offers that change weekly/fortnightly.
The offers feature a range of free and speed fruits and veg, so it’s always worth a look. This week in Lidl, the Pick of the Week selection is as follows;
- Large Flat Mushroom – fab for Low Syn Farfalloni Con Funghi
- Sunstream Vine Tomatoes – try this 1 Syn Creamy Tomato Vodka Pasta
- Onions – for Syn Free Onion Bhajis, of course!
- Satsumas – great for snacking on the go.
Prices for the Pick of the Week selections start from 49p a pack up to 99p a pack in Lidl stores, available from 22.11.18 to 28.11.18, while stocks last.
Ocado Frozen Diced Beetroot
Frozen fruit & veg are a great way to save time and money. The preparation has all been done for you, and there’s no waste, so it’s a win/win situation.
It’s convenient too, take what you need and pop the rest away in the freezer.
If you’ve found the food on the Speed food list, it will still be a speed choice when frozen. Do be aware that some frozen veg products have oil added to them, so it’s always worth checking Syns Online.
Beetroot is on the Speed Food List, but because this is a branded product, SW won’t give it an S symbol.
This can’t be eaten raw, you will need to cook from frozen. Once cooked, you can serve it hot as a side vegetable.
This 500g bag of Frozen Diced Beetroot costs £1.00 from Ocado.
Gosh! is a pretty recognisable brand in the vegetarian foods market. The burgers and sausages have been around for quite a while, but Gosh! have regularly added new products to their range.
I found these Gosh! Bites in Lidl this week, while I was trying to avoid the very tempting smell of fresh bread and croissants from the in-store bakery! There are two flavours of these to choose from –
- Spinach & Pine Nut Bites
- Sweet Pumpkin & Chilli Bites
Both flavours are listed on Syns Online as 1 Syn per bite. They cost £1.49 for a 200g pack in Lidl.
Gosh! Vegetarian Snacks
I don’t tend to visit Lidl stores very often, as the nearest one is a bit off the beaten track for me.
I mentioned further up that Gosh! have a pretty decent range of veggie snacks, and there were even more on offer in the next set of fridges in Lidl on Tuesday!
- Sweet Potato Pakora – 1.5 Syns each
- Moroccan Spiced Falafel – 1 Syn each
- Mediterranean Falafel – 1.5 Syns each
- Beetroot Falafel – 1.5 Syns each
You can save yourself some Syns by making our Syn Free Sweet Potato Pakoras, so worth it and so tasty!!
All Syns information for these products is taken from the Syns Online database. These Gosh! vegetarian snacks cost £1.99 per pack in Lidl stores.
Lidl Chef Select Vegetarian Chilli
A decent chilli is an absolute winner, especially at this time of year.
My favourite way to eat chilli is with this Syn Free Chilli Cheesy Nachos recipe – it really tastes too good, cheesy and indulgent, but completely on plan. Winning! Any of our chilli recipes can be made using a vegetarian mince, such as Quorn.
This Chef Select Vegetarian Chilli meal is available from Lidl stores in the chilled section. It appears on the Syns Online app at 4 Syns per 450g pack and costs £1.89.
Birchwood Farm Chicken Stir Fry Meal Kits
I love a good stir fry! Packed with speed foods and so quick to make, too! They’re a failsafe way to stay on track and enjoy some really yummy food that doesn’t take forever to cook.
One of my absolute favourites is our Syn Free Stir-fried Beef with Ginger & Spring Onion. It’s a regular Saturday night fakeaway in our house.
These Birchwood Farm Chicken Stir Fry Meal Kits are a good option for a quick meal that won’t break the Syns bank.
- Green Thai chicken – 2 Syns per pack (app)
- Chinese chicken – 3 Syns per pack (using the Syns estimator on the SW website)
The meal kits are made with British chicken and cost £2.69 per pack, so they’re certainly worth a look.
Tesco Shredded Jackfruit in Sauce
We first discovered jackfruit way back in January of this year, when we featured some new vegetarian products from Sainsbury’s in our Shopping Essentials round up. If you’ve never heard of it, jackfruit is a vegan alternative to pulled pork.
We’ve seen a big increase in the number of jackfruit products on the market, and Slimming World recently added canned jackfruit in water to the database as a free food.
If you missed this announcement, catch up with our summary here.
Tesco have launched a new range of Jackfruit in sauce products, which I found this week, so I wanted to share them here for you.
These are not listed on the Slimming World database yet, so we’ve used the Syns Estimator to calculate the Syn values for these products.
- Thai Green – 4.5 Syns per pouch
- Mexican inspired – 3 Syns per pouch
- BBQ – 1 Syn per pouch
Fajita Vegetable Mix
If you love fajitas. this next offering could be just for you! I spotted this fajita vegetable mix in the prepared fresh vegetables section of Tesco earlier in the week.
My first instinct is always to check the ingredients label, as these sort of products often contain added oil.
Fortunately, the only ingredients listed are mixed peppers, red onion and coriander…happy days!
These are all speed vegetables, but as it’s a branded product, it won’t have an S symbol from SW. If you love fajitas, why not try our fab Syn Free Chicken Fajita Pasta recipe!
Sharwoods Plain Low Fat Poppadoms
Are you planning a fakeaway Indian meal this weekend? By making your own dishes, you’ll be saving on Syns and staying right on track!
We have a comprehensive range of fakeaway recipes to rival your local takeaway, but with far fewer Syns. Yippee!
Sharwoods Low Fat Poppadoms will add that finishing touch to your Fakeaway meal. They are listed on Syns Online at 1.5 Syns per poppadom, so you could afford to have a couple of these with your favourite Syn free curry.
Tesco Sweet Potato Smiles
As I write this article, it’s mid-afternoon, very cold, dark, grey and miserable outside. This new product from Tesco might just put a little smile on your face and cheer you up.
Tesco Sweet Potato Smiles are fun shaped vegetables made from 100% sweet potato, so they will be free. You can give them a few squirts of Frylight and cook on a baking tray to add a few smiles to your meal!
Snaktastic Rice & Corn Snacks
Most supermarkets try to tempt you at the checkout with a few snacks. Sometimes it’s not easy to resist, especially if you’ve made the mistake of going supermarket shopping when you’re hungry!
These Snaktastic Rice and Corn Snacks were staring at me from the side of the checkout at Lidl on Monday, so I bought one bag of each flavour to bring home.
It’s one of the perils of doing research for this article!
These rice and corn snack bags are individual portions of rice cakes, available in three flavours;
- Salt & Vinegar
- Sour Cream & Chive
- Sweet Chilli
I tried the salt & vinegar flavour, which weren’t bad at all. I’m reliably informed by my family that the other flavours were okay too!
Using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website, they come out as 5.5 Syns per bag and cost 47p.
Muller Light Chocolate Fix Mint
I first spotted these when I was flicking through the Slimming World magazine a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for them to actually appear in my local Tesco and this week I’ve found them!
Muller Light Chocolate Mint Fix desserts will certainly satisfy any cravings for the combination of chocolate and mint. The Slimming World magazine listed these at 4.5 Syns per pot, but they are not showing on Syns Online yet.
One other point worth noting is that unlike many of the Muller Light yogurts, these are suitable for vegetarians. A pack of 4 Chocolate Mint Fix Desserts costs £1.60 in Tesco. You can find them here, on the Tesco website.
Cadbury Limited Edition Mini Rolls Mint
Sticking with the chocolate and mint theme, Cadbury have brought out these limited edition mint flavoured mini rolls. Chocolate flavoured sponge with a mint flavoured filling, covered with milk chocolate.
If you like this flavour combination, you’ll need to be quick as they’re a limited edition. You can find them in Asda stores, priced at £1.50 for a pack of 5 mini rolls. They are listed on the Syns Online database at 6.5 Syns each.
Multigrain Cheerios 600g – Half Price until Monday!
This isn’t a new product alert, more of a public information announcement. Standard Multigrain Cheerios have only recently been added to the Healthy Extras list as a B choice, as previously it was only the Oat Cheerios (less than 5% sugar) that were an HEB choice.
Now the database lists both Oat Cheerios, less than 5% sugar, and the normal Multigrain Cheerios as Healthy Extra B choices. You can have 40g of either as your HEB choice. (If not using as a Healthy Extra, 40g is 7.5 Syns.)
The large 600g size box of Multigrain Cheerios is on offer for half price in Tesco this week, so £1.65 instead of £3.30, but only until Monday. It’s a great saving, so if you love this cereal, get your skates on!
Milbona Fat Free High Protein Yogurt
Foods that are high in protein help to satisfy hunger and keep us feeling fuller for longer.
If you’re feeling hungry, reaching for something that’s high in protein is a much better idea than a Syn-packed chocolate bar.
Obviously there are lots of Syn free options when it comes to protein-rich snacks, but most of them are savoury. If you don’t mind using Syns, you could try this Milbona Fat Free High Protein Yogurt from Lidl.
Slimming World updated the Syn values of flavoured yogurts recently, meaning many products that had previously been free now carry a small Syn value. If you missed the announcement, you can read up on the information here.
There are three flavours available, Strawberry, Raspberry and Peach & Passionfruit. They are not on the app yet, so we’ve used the Syns Estimator to calculate these values;
- Raspberry – 1 Syn
- Peach & Passionfruit – 1 Syn
- Strawberry – 0.5 Syns
Milbona Fat Free High Protein yogurts cost 65p for a 180g pot from Lidl stores.
Gellatelli Ice Cream Lollies
How’s this for a festive ice cream treat?! I spotted these adorable Reindeer and Snowmen in the freezers when I was browsing around in Lidl, and thought they were definitely worth a mention.
The Reindeer Ice Cream Lollies are caramel, chocolate and strawberry flavour, and the Snowman Ice Cream Lollies are vanilla and strawberry flavour.
We’ve used the Syns Estimator to work out the Syn values for these.
They work out at 3.5 Syns each, and at 99p for a box of 4 ice cream lollies, they’re pretty good value for your Syns and your purse!
Lidl Deluxe Ice Cream Fancies
In last week’s Shopping Essentials article, we included some ice cream bites from Asda. Lidl have a product which is very similar, so if you can’t get to a branch of Asda, why not try these instead?
Bite-sized servings of Bourbon Vanilla ice cream with strawberry, or Chocolate ice cream with caramel filling. Using the Syns Estimator these come out at 1.5 Syns each. A box of 10 Lidl Deluxe Ice Cream Fancies costs 99p for a box of 10.
Ugly Flavoured Sparkling Water
Don’t you wonder sometimes how names are chosen for new products?! For some unexplained reason, this new brand of flavoured sparkling water is called ‘Ugly’.
The mind boggles! It must have been an interesting product development meeting.
Rather than the usual plastic bottles, this sparkling water comes in a 330ml can, which can easily be recycled. Using the snackulator, they come out as Syn free.
Ugly flavoured sparkling water is available in 3 flavours;
- Triple Berry
- Lemon & Lime

Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
