Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 507,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
Last Sunday was a landmark day for the Pinch of Nom team. We hit the magical 500,000 members mark in our Facebook group!
If you’re a new member, hello and welcome to this weekly round up of new, Slimming World friendly products.
The Slimming World plan recommends including 1/3 of a plate of Speed Food with every meal where we can, so we always include some Speed foods in our Shopping Essentials round up, too!
Florette Sweet Leaf Salad
Florette produce a broad range of salad products that are available in most supermarkets.
Whether it’s a selection of prepacked lettuce leaves, or the fresh vacuum-packed cooked beetroot featured in Shopping Essentials a couple of months ago, there are plenty of choices.
This Florette Sweet leaf mix combines tender and succulent spinach with sweet butterhead and baby leaves. Washed & ready to eat. Ideal as a main, a side or in packed lunches.
You’ll find this Florette Sweet Leaf Salad selection is Asda, priced at £1.25
Morrisons Small Mediterranean Salad Bowl
We often get posts to our Facebook Group asking what you can grab for lunch when you’re out and about.
The best laid plans can go astray, but you don’t want to give in to fast food temptations.
We’ve written a great article to give you some inspiration for Slimming World lunch ideas on the go, when you’re out and about – have a look here!
You really can’t go wrong with a bowl of washed and prepared salad leaves as a Speed Food base for a meal. Add some ham or chicken and you’re sorted.
This Mediterranean style salad with mixed peppers, cherry tomatoes, butternut squash and red onion fits the bill perfectly.
You’ll find this Mediterranean Salad bowl in Morrisons, priced at just £1.00
Morrisons Soffritto Vegetable Mix
Soffritto is an Italian word that means ‘under-fried’, or ‘fried slowly’. It’s primarily a mixture of 3 basic ingredients, finely minced and used in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American cooking.
This ‘holy trinity’ of ingredients is made up of finely diced carrots, celery and onions, fried off and used as a base to create a flavoursome sauce, soup, ragu, risotto or casserole.
Try it in our Syn Free Pasta Bolognese Bake!
It’s a fantastic way to bulk out any dish that you make, and include more hidden speed vegetables in your cooking, which is always a bonus!
You’ll find this vegetable base mix in the freezer at Morrisons. It costs £1.00 for a 500g bag.
Morrisons Broccoli Rice
In the Shopping Essentials article from last week, we brought you Morrisons frozen Cauliflower Rice.
This week, we’ve found frozen Broccoli Rice too!
It’s always good to find ways to increase our intake of Speed Foods.
You may choose to hide extra vegetables in a sauce or soup, or simply serve as an accompaniment to a main meal.
If you’re looking for vegetable alternatives to replace pasta, rice or potatoes, this will work well.
We have a Guide to Speed Food choices here, which might help.
Morrisons Broccoli Rice costs £1.30 for a 500g bag.
Lidl Pick of The Week
If you’re a regular follower of our Shopping Essentials articles, you’ll know that we often include the weekly fruit and vegetable offers from Lidl and Aldi.
This week Lidl have 3 excellent choices – all Speed foods too!
- Fresh Spinach – versatile in salads, stir fries and breakfast dishes
- Garlic Bulbs – use in our Syn Free Baked Spaghetti with Chicken
- Fresh Asparagus – try this in the Low Syn Mozzarella and Asparagus Stuffed Chicken
The spinach is 69p per 250g pack, the garlic 59p for a pack of 4 bulbs and the asparagus is 99p for a 100g pack.
All available in Lidl until next Wednesday, 28th February.
Tesco Summer Fruit Snack Pots
I spotted these in the freezer at Tesco this week. Individual pots of frozen summer fruits, namely Strawberries, Pineapple and Grapes.
This combination of Speed and Free fruits would be ideal for breakfast, or as an anytime snack.
They’d also make a great packed lunch choice, as they’d defrost during the morning, whilst doubling up as an ice pack to keep the rest of your lunch cool! How’s that for multi-tasking?!
Asda Chilli Stir Fry
In last week’s Shopping Essentials we discussed how it’s not always practical to cook from scratch if you’re pressed for time.
Rather than reaching for the phone and a takeaway menu, you can knock up a stir fry in no time at all with a pack of prepared stir fry veg.
Of course, if you do have time to prepare, there are lots of options for stir fry dishes!
You could go for something really simple, like our Syn Free Chicken Chow Mein, or our super tasty Syn Free Stir-fried Beef with Ginger and Spring Onion.
Fab for a Friday night Fakeaway, too!
All you’d need to do is add some chicken, beef or a vegetarian choice to this Speed vegetable pack and stir fry in a pan with a splash of soy sauce for an instant supper dish.
Asda Chilli Stir Fry comes in a 260g pack, costing £1.00.
Tesco Boneless Salmon Fillets
One of our Slimming World mantras is, ‘If it swims, it slims!’
We often find that if we have a couple of fish dishes throughout the week, we can get a good loss on the scales.
With this in mind, we noticed these boneless fresh salmon fillets in Tesco. Six boneless salmon fillets in a pack that you could use for our delicious Syn Free Teriyaki and Chilli Salmon with Noodles.
As you can see, this recipe is packed with Speed foods, too!
If you don’t use all six fillets in one sitting, you can freeze the remaining fillets for another time.
Tesco Smoked/Unsmoked Back Bacon Rashers
As you probably know, we love a good breakfast, it sets you up for the day, and a bacon sarnie is a pretty great way to start the weekend on plan.
Nothing beats our Perfect Low Syn BLT sandwich.
Of course, once you start cooking the bacon and that delicious smell wafts out of the kitchen, you’ll have a queue begging for these beautiful butties, so you’d better make sure you’re prepared!
This pack of 24 Back Bacon Rashers is great value.
You can buy smoked or unsmoked bacon, and as long as you remove all visible fat, it’s free.
Lidl Pick of the Week
We’ve nipped back to Lidl briefly, to mention some of their Meat and Fish Pick of the Week deals.
Some weeks there is nothing suitable for Slimming World, as the meat products have glazes or sauces that are packed full of Syns.
This week, however, there a couple of products that are Free on the Slimming World plan and definitely worth a look.
- Gammon Steaks – great for a mixed grilll and a quick, easy meal.
- Smoked Haddock Fillets – perfect for our Syn Free Fish Pie
2 Gammon Steaks cost £1.39 and 2 Smoked Haddock Fillets cost £2.39, available at Lidl until Wednesday 28th February.
ASDA Free From Mature Cheddar Alternative
We always try to find alternative options to include in the Shopping Essentials for those with dietary restrictions.
New to Asda’s Free From range this week is their Mature Cheddar Alternative.
Made from Coconut Oil, this alternative is gluten, wheat and dairy free. It’s suitable for vegetarians & vegans alike.
The reviews on the Asda website are pretty positive overall, with comments such as, ‘One of the best dairy free cheeses I’ve tasted! Melts well and a great price,’ and ‘I have tried many a vegan cheese but I can truly say this is the best!’
Asda Free From Mature Cheddar Alternative costs £2.00 for a 200g pack. It’s on Syns Online at 3.5 Syns per 25g.
Primula Cheese with Jalapeños – New HEA
When you add cheese to a recipe, it always makes it better…in my opinion anyway!
The obvious drawback to this is that adding cheese will inevitably add Syns, so we need to use our cheese options wisely!
Step forward new Primula Cheese Spread with Jalapeños. A wonderfully cheesy cheese spread with a fiery kick to boot.
I cannot wait to try this as a topping on our Syn Free Cheesy Chilli Nachos recipe.
This Gluten Free Primula Cheese with Jalapeños is currently exclusive to Iceland.
Marmite Reduced Salt Yeast Extract Spread
We’re often advised to reduce our salt intake, so it’s handy when a favourite food product brings out a reduced salt version.
That classic yellow Marmite label has changed to blue for this lower salt recipe.
If you are a lover of Marmite, you must try our delicious, Syn Free Marmite Pasta recipe. It’s great for a super quick supper!
Marmite is listed as a storecupboard staple ingredient, so it’s free on the Slimming World plan.
This Marmite Reduced Salt Yeast Extract Spread is available from Ocado, priced at £3.09 for a 250g jar.
Alpen No Added Sugar New Flavours – HEB choices
Breakfast is always a bit tricky in the mornings when you’re pushed for time.
If you’ve been organised, you may have prepped something the night before, or if you have a little more time, you can do a cooked breakfast.
If you only have time for cereal and you fancy some muesli for breakfast, we have 2 new HEB choices for you. Blueberry, Cherry & Almond, or Strawberry, Raspberry & Cranberry flavour.
Alpen No Added Sugar Muesli is available in two new flavours, and both are listed on the Slimming World Database as an HEB choice for a 40g serving.
If you’re not using it as your HEB choice, 40g is 7 Syns.
These varieties are available from Morrisons, priced at £2.00 per pack until 13/3/18.
Sunbites – new flavours
Walkers Sunbites are a popular snack choice for Slimming World-ers. An oven baked, multigrain, crunchy and tasty snack, with some lovely flavours to choose from.
We have featured some of these flavours previously in our Shopping Essentials articles, but I spotted two new flavours in Tesco this week, so I wanted to share them with you here!
Sunbites Veggie Harvest Roasted Red Pepper and Chilli
A deliciously crunchy multigrain snack, now with added vegetables. Seasoned with the mouth-watering flavour of Roasted Red Pepper & Chilli.
Sunbites Veggie Harvest Onion and Balsamic Vinegar
Seasoned with the mouth-watering flavour of Caramelised Onion & Balsamic Vinegar, for added Zing!
Both flavours are available in Tesco, priced at £1.00 for a pack of 6 x 25g bags.
Tesco Light Garlic Mayo
Earlier this week, someone in our Facebook group mentioned this Tesco Light Garlic Mayo.
I’m not certain if it’s a new product, but I haven’t seen it before and I thought I’d share it here as we often get questions in our Facebook group for a garlic dressing.
I was also thinking it would be a good choice to accompany our incredibly popular Syn Free Chicken Kebab.
It seems that everyone has made these recently, and a garlic mayonnaise would be pretty good to serve with it.
If you want to keep things completely Syn Free, you can make the Tzatziki dip from our Syn Free Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki recipe.
Breyers Ice Cream – now at Asda
There has been an ice cream revolution over the past few weeks.
Last week we covered 1.5 Syn Magnum Bomboniera ice cream bites in our Top Pick item, too.
We’re sharing the ice cream love this week, as we’re delighted to announce that Breyers Ice Cream is now available from Asda, priced at £4.99 per pot.
It’s available in 4 flavours –
- Mint Chip – 3.5 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Cookies and Cream – 3.5 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Creamy Chocolate – 3 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Smooth Vanilla – 3 Syns per 53g (100ml)
There has been plenty of discussion about measuring 100mls of ice cream, which is how it’s listed on the SW database.
The Tesco and Asda websites both state that ‘2x Scoop = 100ml/53g’, so you’ll need to weigh your ice cream for accurate Syn values.
Mr Kipling Marzipan And Fruit Slice
If I had to name a favourite flavour, I think that almond would be be right up there!
Maybe it’s the distant memory of marzipan, or indulging in a cheeky amaretto liqueur every now and again, when Syns permit!
Mr Kipling have created this delicious Marzipan and Fruit Slice, a combination reminiscent of an Easter Simnel cake.
Delicately spiced sponge baked with vine fruits, with a Marzipan filling and a decorated almond flavour topping.
If you’d like to keep the Syns reigned in a little more, why not try making our Low Syn Marzipan Easter Egg Cakes?
At half a Syn per cake, you could afford to have a couple of these beauties!
Mr Kipling Marzipan and Fruit Slices are listed on the Syns Online database at 7 Syns each.
Sprite Zero Lemon Lime and Cucumber
The original flavour of Sprite is a delicious Lemon and Lime fizzy drink, which was launched in a ‘Zero’ sugar free variant quite a while ago.
During my detailed search through the supermarkets this week, I came across this new flavour of Sprite Zero – Lemon, Lime and Cucumber. (I have to declare at this point, my inner gin-drinking self was thinking ‘Oooooh! That’ll be nice!’)
I’m sure it’s refreshing and delicious as a soft drink, and as it’s free, it’s a great choice. It would definitely be lovely as a mixer, too! 😉
Obviously, if you’re going to use it as a mixer, you’ll need to know how many Syns are in the tipple you’re mixing.
Have a look at our list of How Many Slimming World Syns in Spirits and Liqueurs to check. Cheers!

I must stress the following…
Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
