Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 540,800 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the Shopping Essentials as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
If you’re a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll know that we always bring you a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World always recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Sainsbury’s Kanzi Apples
Apples are the perfect Slimming World snack, aren’t they? Not only are they Speed food, but they’re ready for you to chomp your teeth into with no real preparation!
If you like Pink Lady apples, crisp and juicy with a firm, not floury texture, then these Kanzi apples will be right up your street.
Kanzi apples are a cross between Braeburn and Gala. They’re red skinned apples which have a tasty balance of sweetness and tartness.
You can find Kanzi apples in Sainsbury’s, where a pack of 6 fruits costs £2.00
Cofresh Whole Baby Okra
We’re always on the lookout for new ways to add speed to our meals. As my own consultant says, ‘The more speed you choose, the more weight you’ll lose!’
Okra is also known as ‘Ladies fingers’, and used widely in African and Asian cookery. They’re ideal for adding to curries, chillies and stir fries, too.
This pack of frozen whole baby okra is great, as you can just grab what you need straight from the bag and save the rest for next time.
Aldi Super 6
Recently we’ve featured both Aldi and Lidl in the Shopping Essentials round up.
Both supermarkets offer a selected range of fruit and vegetables each week that are free or speed foods and are good value for money.
This current selection from Aldi is valid until Thursday 29th March, after which there’s a good selection of vegetables perfect for an Easter weekend roast dinner!
- Beetroot – ideal for Syn Free Roasted Garlic and Beetroot soup or Syn Free Beetroot and Mint Hummus
- Mini Bananas – try making our Low Syn Banana and Peanut Muffins
- Oranges – perfect for the 2.5 Syn a slice Orange & Almond Cake
- Pineapple – for some delicious Syn Free Pineapple Salsa
- Shredded kale – as a Speedy side to our hearty Half Syn Cumberland Pie
- White mushrooms – a must for Low Syn Farfalloni Con Funghi
Prices range from 59p to 69p per pack. All available from Aldi stores until Thursday.
Morrisons Market St British Beef Joint
I’ve already mentioned that Easter weekend will be here very soon. It’s a great time to sit down for a Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
All fresh meat is free as long as you remove visible fat before cooking, so this would make a great on-plan meal.
If you have any beef leftovers, you can make these amazing Low Syn Yorkshire Pudding Wraps for a marvellous Monday meal!
Morrisons Market St have British Beef Joints on offer at £5.00 per kilogram, so prices of individual joints will vary depending on weight.
Morrisons Cod Fillets
As you’ll probably already know, we like fish. Our mantra is ‘If it swims, it slims’, so we try to include a couple of fish-based meals every week.
These cod fillets cook from frozen too, so worth having a pack in the freezer for those nights when you don’t have much time.
I often pan fry a cod fillet like this and serve with Syn Free Dirty Fries and salad for a super quick mid-week meal.
This pack of 4 skinless and boneless frozen cod fillets is available from Morrisons, priced at £3.00.
Tesco Finest Smoked/Unsmoked Bacon Medallions
Ahhh, Bacon! One of the best smells to wake up to in the morning, along with a pot of freshly brewed coffee, of course!
Tesco have relaunched their Finest range of back bacon medallions, both smoked and unsmoked are available in new packaging.
Back Bacon Medallions are perfect for Slimming World, as they’ve already been trimmed to remove all visible fat, which makes them Free food.
It would be perfect for making our Syn Free Bacon, Onion and Potato Bake.
Arla Protein Lemon
We are always on the lookout for new products, and this one was brought to my attention earlier today by one of our admin team, Emma, whilst doing her weekly online shop!
Arla Protein is Fat Free Lemon Flavoured Quark with Sweetener, but as with other brands of flavoured quark, it’s not Syn Free!
Having said that, at only 3 Syns for the whole 400g pot, it’s not bad. Quark is higher in protein than other yogurts too, so it will satisfy hunger for longer.
You could use this in our Low Syn Lemon & Blueberry baked oats for a delicious breakfast option!
Arla Protein Lemon is available from Asda priced at £2.00 for a 400g pot.
Arla Protein Coconut
There’s another new flavour in the Arla Protein range too, namely coconut. This is a Fat Free Coconut Flavoured Quark with Sweetener.
As with the lemon flavour, although this is Fat Free, it’s not Syn Free. A 400g pot is listed on the database at 3.5 Syns.
You can find Arla Protein Coconut in Asda, it costs £2.00 for 400g.
Can I have Arla Protein on an SP day?
According to advice given by Slimming World;
“As these are branded foods (and they have Syns) they do not receive a ‘P’ symbol. Members may choose Arla Protein and count the Syn value when on SP but these flavoured varieties have Syns because they are higher in calories than plain quark.
To really boost weight loss on SP stick to plain quark and other foods shown in your food optimising book which have the S or P symbol, leaving your Syns for treats that you can’t do without, such as crisps, chocolate or wine. Thanks, Slimming World.”
However, if you need further clarification please ask your consultant for more information.
The Collective Pro-Yo Yoghurt Range
This is a Quark and yogurt blend, combined with fruits, juices and natural flavourings to create a high protein, low sugar snack.
The reviews I’ve read so far say that this has a lovely, thick, creamy texture, whilst not being overly sweet. The blend of quark and yogurt makes it really satisfying, too.
It comes in a resealable pouch, so if you’re taking it as part of a packed lunch, it can be opened and part-eaten, then popped back into a lunch box to finish later with no mess!
Another plus is that this can be kept out of the fridge for up to four hours, so if you need a ‘grab and go’ snack to just slip in your bag you won’t need to muck around with an ice pack.
It’s available in 3 flavours from Ocado, Berries, (1.5 Syns) Strawberry (1.5 Syns) and Coconut with Honey and Vanilla (2 Syns). Apparently it will be available from Tesco soon, too. It costs £1.35 per pouch.
Boka Cereal Bars – New HEB choice
We love finding new snacks and cereal bars that are good for Slimming World! We love it even more when they’re classified as a Healthy Extra choice!
Boka cereal bars are made with sugars and sweeteners (sucralose) to keep sugar values low. This also means that the Syns are relatively low.
These bars are suitable for vegetarians and high in fibre.
These Boka cereal bars are available in three flavours, Caramel flavour (4.5 Syns), Apple and Cinnamon flavour (4.5 Syns) and Chocolate Mallow flavour (4 Syns).
The Boka bars are available from Sainsbury’s, priced at £2.00 for a box of 4 bars.
ASDA Fruit Spiral Lollies
There’s always room for something sweet after your meal, but this is where I used to fail spectacularly in my pre-Slimming World days.
Having said that, I always keep a few Syns back in case I get mobbed by the sweet-tooth monster in the evening!
These Fruit Spiral lollies are Orange, blackcurrant, raspberry and lemon flavoured ice lollies made with real fruit juice from concentrate.
They’re 3 Syns each using the snackulator, and a box of 5 lollies costs just £1.00 from Asda.
Cadbury Mini Egg Nest Cakes
With the clocks going forward this weekend, and Easter only a couple of weeks away, thoughts are already turning to Easter goodies.
My children don’t break up for Easter until next Thursday, but they’re already eyeing up the seasonal aisle in my local supermarket for chocolate and cakes that they have to add to my trolley!
As long as I’m armed with the information, I can stay in control of the Syns and even treat myself!
These Cadbury Mini Nest Egg cakes are 9 Syns each on the Syns Online database, but you can have one and still stay within your Syns allowance for the day.
Cadbury Mini Fingers Snack Pack
Cadbury chocolate fingers have always been a favourite. The trouble is, they’re very more-ish, and once that box is open they’re calling your name until the box is empty!
These Cadbury Mini Fingers snack packs will help you to resist eating too many in one go. You get 5 x 22g snack bags in the multi pack.
Each 22g snack pack is 5.5 Syns, so they don’t put a huge dent into your allowance for the day either!
Canderel Sugarly Granulated Sweetener
Whenever we use sweetener in our dessert recipes or cakes, we recommend a granulated sweetener with the same weight, texture and sweetness of sugar.
Canderel Sugarly is one of the sweeteners we can recommend, as it works really well in our recipes. The blue Canderel jar isn’t as familiar as the red packaging, but it’s worth hunting this one out on the supermarket shelves.
Why not try it in our gorgeous Low Syn Chocolate Brownies recipe?! Perfect as an Easter weekend treat!
Whilst this isn’t a brand new product, it’s currently on offer at half price in Morrisons, so if you use granulated sweetener, it’s well worth stocking up now!
Canderel Sugarly is now available in Morrisons for £1.50 (usual price £3.00)
Twinings Superblends Turmeric with Orange & Star Anise
I have several boxes of tea bags in my cupboard at any one time, much to my family’s amusement!
Apart from Yorkshire tea, which is a pre-requisite when you live in Sheffield, I have other teas for enjoying at different times.
This new combination from Twinings sounds really good. Star Anise brings a gentle spice, with earthy turmeric from the ginger family, and delicious, juicy orange to create a well-rounded, smooth and warming blend which is naturally caffeine free.
This is available at an introductory offer of £1.35 in Sainsbury’s. (The usual price will be £2.70)
Twinings Superblends Sleep Spiced Apple & Vanilla with Camomile & Passionflowers
This blend of flavours is new from Twinings, a name long associated with tea manufacture.
Camomile and Passionflower are both said to aid sleep naturally, and Apple and Vanilla are comforting, sweet and warming flavours, the combination of which are all conducive to relaxation.
These Twinings teabags are available at an introductory offer of £1.35 in Sainsbury’s. (The usual price will be £2.70)
