Over in our Facebook group (where we now have nearly 200,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!), one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.
This week we’ve got lots of new products that are perfect for the weather warming up, and Summer rolling in ☀️ Drinks, ice cream and soooo much more!
Salad – Free & Speed Foods
I’ve just spent a delightful hour in the garden, enjoying this heatwave that we seem to be experiencing up and down the country ☀️🌴!
The temperatures are in the mid-twenties, for those of us who deal in celcius, anyway! When the mercury rises, nobody wants to eat hot food, or spend hours in the kitchen preparing it.
As we all know, when we are truly food optimising, we need to include 1/3 speed food with every meal. With the variety of salads and speed vegetables available at the moment, it’s really easy to do just that!
As well as a huge variety of salad leaves, some mild, such as lambs lettuce, others much more peppery, such as rocket or watercress, or bitter, like lollo rosso. Morrisons have just added to its great range of bagged salads!
This Italian style salad is full of flavour, and the attractive leaves add to the appeal. Tomatoes are always a winner in a salad, as is cucumber.
I will often add sliced bell peppers, baby sweetcorn, sugar-snap peas and radishes, as they’re all speed vegetables and really give your salad some crunch. You should check out our Syn free Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella Salad – it’s sooo nice!
We featured some tasty tomatoes in our round up from the other week. I dashed into Tesco earlier to grab some salad for lunch. They sell a wide range of salad-in-a-bowl options, great for a quick, super-healthy lunch on plan.
A salad bowl, with maybe a pack of cold meat, a hard-boiled egg, or even a tin of tuna will give you several options. We’re planning a barbeque tomorrow, as the weather is set fair for the weekend, too!
Marks and Spencer are leading the way with summer food choices this year.
M&S Skinny Slaw – Syns Vary
As well as their skinny sausages/burgers etc (previously featured in Essentials shopping list) I want to pick up some of their new Skinny Slaws.
There are three delicious sounding combinations, Coconut, Butternut and Broccoli, Beetroot, apple and pink cabbage, and pickled cucumber, carrots and spring onion.
You can get them from M&S stores now, but you best be quick as these will be very popular this bank holiday weekend!
New Topless Frylight Bottles – Syn Free
The new topless Frylight bottles are here, and did you know that they’ll save over 120 tonnes of plastic waste per year? Wow!
The new Frylight bottles are available in supermarkets now, including the new full sized Garlic Oil! Find out more on the Frylight website.
Morrisons Big Blue Sea £4 Each – Free Food!
Regular readers will have heard me use the mantra, ‘If it swims, it slims!’ on many occasions. We always have great losses when we eat fish, so we try to plan several fish dishes each week.
Morrisons have introduced a new range of pre-packed fresh fish. The Big Blue Sea range offers great value for money.
My local branch has included them in the ‘3 for £10’ deal for the last few weeks, which is always a bargain! At just £4 a pack, these are definitely on my shopping list for next week.
It’s a great alternative for your weekend brunch, and it will save your Healthy Extras for later in the day. Win-win!
I love cod wrapped in Prosciutto or Parma ham and baked in the oven, so I’ll definitely be grabbing a pack of two cod fillets.
Tesco Refried Beans – Free Food
Tesco are now selling their own-label refried beans. They are free and very versatile.
Apart from a stand-alone side dish, they can also bulk out a chilli-con-carne. Cheaper than branded cans of refried beans, these should be on you shopping list! Delicioso!!
Who doesn’t love a Mexican feast?
Spicy and exciting, a real crowd pleaser. We’ve got a selection of Mexican dishes, including Syn Free Mexican Rice, Syn Free Dirty Fried Rice and Mexican slaw, as well as Syn Free Mexican Street Corn and Syn-Free Pineapple Salsa.
Refried beans are a traditional staple of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine, they make a fabulous side dish to accompany all these dishes.
Teisseire 0% Fruit Syrups – Syn Free
As the summer’s fast approaching we thought we’d cover these sugar free syrups from Teisseire.
They’re ideal to add a dash of flavour to your drinks, or for using in some Low Syn, Summery cocktails. You can pick them up from some Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Ocado and Amazon and they are all Syn Free!
Teisseire Sirop Elderflower 0% Sugar
This is a deliciously refreshing drink, that’s full of the tart citrus flavours of berries and pears.
It’s fab in water and other cold drinks, and even better when it’s mixed with other refreshing flavours to make a summer cocktail, like our 4 Syn Elderflower Gin Fizz.
Teisseire Grenadine 0% Sugar
This is a vivid red fruity berry flavour, with the lovely sweet taste of vanilla. Again this can be used as a drink in its own right, just dilute 1 part syrup to approximately 7 parts water.
Teisseire Raspberry & Cranberry 0% Sugar
Once again this is great to add a dash of flavour to your drinks, or for using in some Low Syn, Summery cocktails.
Pink Lemonade with Zero Added Sugar – Tesco & Sainsbury’s
Another great Syn Free option for adding to cocktails is this Pink Lemonade with Zero Added Sugar.
Of course you can pick some diet pink lemonade up from most supermarkets, but this particular one is from Tesco and will set you back about 50p for a 2l bottle.
Why not try give it a go and try our 4 Syn Raspberry Vodka Fizz?!
M&S Aperitivo Cocktail – 8 Syns
This Aperitivo Fizz is a sparkling cocktail made with white wine and fragrant orange bitters.
At 8.5 Syns for the 200ml bottle this isn’t the most economical use of Syns, but it would be great for taking on picnics or days out as you know you will be getting an exact measure for your Syns.
Light & Free New Lemon Flavour – Syn Free
When Danone launched their Light & Free yogurts we couldn’t wait to get our hands on them!
They are yummy, Greek-style yogurts, available in a fab range of flavours – Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, Cherry or Peach and Passionfruit. All syn-free and very tasty.
They’re also suitable for vegetarians. Well, now there’s a new flavour fighting for fridge space! Allow us to introduce you to Light & Free Lavish Lemon flavour.
I’m really looking forward to this, as lemon is one of my all-time favourite flavours.
Currently available in Morrisons, but we’re sure they will be rolling out to all major supermarkets soon!
M&S Chilli King Prawn Kebabs – 1 Syn a Pack
We’ve featured an insane about of BBQ stuff these last few weeks, and here’s another to add to the many!
M&S have really outdone themselves with Slimming World friendly BBQ things this summer.
Out of all the supermarkets they are eons ahead! These Chilli King Prawn Kebabs are rather spicy, but delicious!
They’re available in M&S stores now.
Pops – Popsicles – Syns Vary
Whilst this heatwave continues, we’re all looking for ways to keep cool. A few weeks ago we featured some amazing alcoholic popsicles from Aldi.
Who could say no to a cheeky, 18+ frozen treat? Available in Gin & Tonic, or Peach and Prosecco Bellini varieties. So imagine our excitement to see these beauties!
Yes, tempting treats in a range of new flavours. There’s Frosé – a refreshing combination of Rosé and raspberry at 1.5 syns when put through the syns calculator.
Watermelon Martini, a blend of watermelon and vodka. At 4.8 abv these are definitely naughty but nice for 2.5 syns (according to the syns calculator).
The third option is a non-alcoholic choice, mango and chilli. This is a classic flavour combination and work out at 2.5 syns.
Currently available from Ocado, but we’re trying to find out about other suppliers. Let’s just hope the warm weather lasts so that we can enjoy them!
M&S Summer Macaroons – 2.5 Syns Each
I remember watching The Great British Bake Off on the week that the bakers tackled macaroons. I love them. Probably a little too much!
Made using French almonds, with a crispy shell, a soft chewy centre and a creamy filling. My mouth was watering as the plates of sweet, sticky treats were presented to the judges.
Thankfully, M & S have created an addition to their Dessert Menu collection with these.
A summer macaroon selection, bursting with fresh summery flavours; Orange blossom, Peach and Apricot, Lemon, Cherry and Lavender.
They are 2.5 syns each, which means you can indulge in two or three without breaking the bank. Mmmm!
Digestives Chocolate Slices – 6 Syns Each
Like the McVitie’s goodies from last week – these are also just 6 Syns each!
I’m really looking forward to finding some of these! You can get them from Asda at just £1 per pack.
Catch all the rest of them in last weeks edition!
