Morrisons Wonky Courgettes
We’ve had lots of queries over on the Facebook group this week about courgettes.
They’re smack-bang in season right now, and the good weather seems to have encouraged a bumper crop! Fortunately, they’re a speed food too!
There have been lots of great recipe ideas from group members, and of course we have some recipes on the Pinch of Nom website for you, too.
Why not try our Syn Free Lasagne Courgette Boats?
This net of Morrisons Wonky Courgettes is just 60p, a real bargain!
Who cares if they’re not a perfect shape once you’ve covered them in lasagne topping and melted cheese?! Not me.
ASDA Grower’s Selection Extra Large Oranges
Fresh oranges are just the taste of sunshine, and they’re a speed food. If I have the time, I’ll segment them properly and add them to a fruit salad.
Really refreshing, especially at the moment when it’s so hot.
They’re also really good if you just cut them into wedges and eat that way, although it can get messy when they’re really juicy!
You could also use them to make our 2.5 Syn a slice Orange and Almond cake!
This bag of 4 Grower’s Selection Extra Large Oranges costs £2.00 from Asda.
We’ve featured several different brands of the new cold infusions style fruit tea bags in the last couple of Shopping Essentials articles, ranging from Twinings and Sainsbury’s to Tetley branded cold brew bags.
With fresh fruit being so abundant at the moment, you could make your own infused flavoured water, which is why I’ve chosen some suitable speed fruits this week to do just that!
Try mixing up your flavours, or copying the shop bought varieties. Lime with strawberry, or lemon with cucumber and mint?
I’ve seen raspberry and watermelon too! Let us know if you find a good blend of flavours that works for you.
These Morrisons Lemons or Limes come in a pack of two fruits, so you won’t be left with loads to use up all at the same time.
Of course, we have plenty of recipes to help if you would like to use your lemons or limes in something else.
Grab a lime to make our Syn Free Chicken Teriyaki Kebabs – perfect for the BBQ while this warm weather continues!
If you’re looking for a fabulous recipe to use some lemons, try our Syn Free Lemon & Garlic Chicken Traybake. It’s an absolute winner! Morrisons Lemons and Limes come in a pack of two and cost 80p.
Protein Food Shop Offer
We have two amazing offers for you from Protein Food Shop this week.
Firstly, they’re doing an amazing 12 PACK SAUSAGE VARIETY PACK for just £34.55 (20% OFF). Included in the hamper is the following:
- 2 x 500g / 6 x Traditional Pork Sausages (1.5 Syns each)
- 2 x 500g / 6 x Cumberland Pork Sausages (1.5 Syns each)
- 2 x 500g / 6 x Pork & Leek Sausages (1.5 Syns each)
- 2 x 500g / 6 x Lincolnshire Sausages (1.5 Syns each)

- 2 x 500g / ave. 14-16 x Cumberland Chipolatas (0.5 Syns each)
What a FEAST! It’s all completely freezable too, so you don’t have to worry about eating it all in one go (although we won’t judge you if you do – just be careful of the meat coma that will follow…!)
The only bad news is that there are only 50 hampers available. Be quick – we’ve seen them run out within just a few hours before.
But even better news?
Their second offer is this exclusive discount code for 10% off site-wide.
The discount code to use at checkout is PON10. This 10% offer is available until Wednesday 1st August 2018. Get innnn!

Whether out and about for a picnic or preparing a lunch to take to work, finding something new and tasty can really help to mix things up a bit. We have lots of ideas here too!
We all know that it’s easy to get stuck in a rut, taking the same old thing every day.
This Simply Defrost Cooked Sweet Chilli Chicken can be chucked in with some salad, or added to pasta or couscous for a really exciting lunchtime twist.
As it’s precooked, all you need to do is defrost and eat, couldn’t be simpler! You can also heat it, maybe in your favourite stir fry type dish.

ASDA Cooked BBQ Chicken Breast Strips
Here’s another option for adding to salads, packed lunches or a quick meal. These Simply Defrost Chicken Breast strips are BBQ flavoured cooked strips of chicken breast.
These chicken strips would make a quick simple meal added to pasta or a mixed salad, perfect for lunch on the go!
Even if you forgot to defrost overnight in the fridge, they would defrost between you leaving home in the morning and sitting down to enjoy lunch!
I’m always pleased to find new options for meals, especially when there’s so little prep to be done. Just defrost and eat. Easy peasy!

These savoury snacks are made from yellow peas, popped and twisted for a lower fat snack option, with bags of flavour to boot!
They are available in several delicious new flavours, including;
- Sun-dried Tomato & Basil

Seabrook With a Twist crisps are available from Waitrose, priced at £1.79 for an 80g bag.
Garden Gourmet Meat Free Classic Burgers
If you’re a regular reader of our Slimming World Shopping Essentials articles, you’ll know that we always try to include products for vegetarians, vegans and those with other dietary restrictions.
This week in Sainsbury’s, I found a new range of meat free, vegetarian products in the freezer section. The first of which are these Garden Gourmet Meat Free Classic Burgers.
Made from Soya and Wheat protein, seasoned with garlic, parsley & black pepper. They’re high in protein, a source of fibre and low in saturated fat.
You get 2 x 80g burgers per box and they work out at 1.5 Syns each on the Syns Calculator.
The reviews are really positive on the website, apparently they’re great tasting, better that quorn and good for the BBQ too! A box of 2 burgers costs £1.60 in Sainsbury’s.
Garden Gourmet Vegetarian Quinoa & Broccoli Bakes
Something a little different for vegetarians now – Garden Gourmet Vegetarian Quinoa & Broccoli Bakes. Broccoli and quinoa with a delicious mix of herbs and spices, formed into patty shapes and found in the freezer at Sainsbury’s.
If you’ve never heard of quinoa, (pronounced ‘keen-wah’) it’s a protein packed grain that looks a little bit like couscous.
It’s as versatile as rice, takes on flavours very readily and an be eaten on its own or in recipes like this one!
The suggested serving size is 3 bakes, which works out at 6 Syns in total. (2 Syns per bake.) A pack of 12 bakes costs £3.00 from Sainsbury’s.
Garden Gourmet Meat Free Simply Pieces
This is another product from the new meat free Garden Gourmet range at Sainsbury’s.
They are described as chicken-style, soya and wheat protein pieces which have been chargrilled to produce a smoky taste.
It looks as though Simply Pieces can be used in many dishes, from stews and pasta dishes to curries and salads.
You can have 75g for 1 Syn according to the Syns Calculator.
A 450g pack of Garden Gourmet Meat Free Simply Pieces costs £2.60 in Sainsbury’s frozen food aisle.
Garden Gourmet Meat Free Simply Mince
The last selection from this range is the meat free frozen vegetable mince.
Made from Soya flour and meat protein, the mince can be used to make a huge range of meals.
This would work really well in our ever-popular Syn Free Enchilada Lasagne recipe.
A 480g bag of Garden Gourmet Meat Free Simply Mince costs £2.80 in Sainsbury’s.
It’s working out free per 80g serving using the Syns calculator.
Aldi Alcoholic Ice Popsicles
We have brought you lots of Alco-popsicles in our Slimming World Shopping Essentials lists over the last few weeks.
While most of the UK basks in glorious sunshine, everyone is trying to find the best way to stay cool!
Aldi have launched two new flavours of alcoholic popsicles to join their existing flavours of Prosecco and Peach Bellini and Gin & Tonic.
The new flavours are Cosmopolitan and Bucks Fizz, perfect for a refreshing pick-me-up for these long, hot summer days.
The Cosmopolitan flavour are listed as 2 Syns each and the Bucks Fizz flavour are 2.5 Syns each on the Slimming World app.
The popsicles come in a box of 4, priced at £2.50 from Aldi.
Ihana Sorbet Style Yogurts
You have probably heard the expression ‘looks can be deceptive’, and it’s often very true. Every week I visit various supermarkets to try and find as many new products as possible for our Slimming World Shopping Essentials list.
If I can’t physically get to a supermarket, I’ll trawl the website looking for anything new.
This week I managed to get to several stores, but didn’t make it to Asda. I found these on the website and thought they were individual pots of sorbet.
The product description says that these are ‘Sorbet style’ yogurts, so you’ll find them in the chilled section, not the freezer!
Ihana Sorbet Style yogurts are available in three flavours;
- Papaya & Lime Sorbet Style Yogurt
- Pink Lemonade Sorbet Style Yogurt
- Blackcurrant, Lemon & Mint Sorbet Style Yogurt
Just a word of caution – these are not very low in Syns! They work out at 8.5 Syns per pot using the Syns calculator and cost 50p per pot, exclusive to Asda.
Bimbo Little Adventures Pancakes
One of our Facebook members spotted these and shared them in the group last week.
They could be handy to grab as a snack on the go, maybe supplemented with some fruit too, to stop you from scoffing down the entire pack in one go!
Little Adventures pancakes are filled with caramel and individually wrapped so that they stay fresh. These will certainly hit the sweet-tooth cravings.
One of these pancakes works out at 6.5 Syns, using the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website. They cost £1.60 for a pack of 4 from Asda.
New Slimming World Meals
We know from regular posts in the Facebook group that Slimming World meals are a bit like Marmite! Everybody has an opinion on them, either positive or negative.
As a convenience food they can be a useful meal choice that is always on plan.
Here at Pinch of Nom, we love to cook from scratch to create delicious meals that are suitable for the whole family.
We have our own Syn Free One Pot Mediterranean Chicken Orzo recipe here which is sooo good!
Recently, Slimming World have added some new recipes to the range, so we thought they were worthy of a mention here.
- Smoky Bean Quarter Pounders
- Hot Dog Sausages
- Korean Style Beef Noodles
- Mediterranean Chicken Risotto
All Slimming World ready meals are free.
Sainsbury’s Greek Style Mango & Passion Fruit Frozen Yogurt
We have been on a bit of a mission over the past few weeks to find cooling treats that won’t break the Syn bank.
We know that lots of people try freezing their own yogurts at home, but somehow the result isn’t quite the same.
In my Slimming World group this week, someone asked which was better, frozen yogurt or ice cream, and we had quite a long chat in image therapy about it.
We concluded that there are good options available for both, but as always it comes down to checking Syn values.
This Greek Style Mango & Passionfruit frozen yogurt sounds really refreshing, and is only 4.5 Syns per 66g serving. A 328g pot costs £2.00 from Sainsbury’s.
Twix Soft Centre biscuits
We love it when members of our Facebook group share their finds, especially when they’re treats that can be enjoyed on the Slimming World plan!
Yazmin shared these little beauties in the FB group this week and we’re glad that she did!
They are crisp biscuits containing milk chocolate chips with a soft caramel centre…I’m drooling already!
If you fancy a cookie, but don’t fancy the Syns hit, you should try our 2 Syn Double Choc Chip Cookies! They’re soooo tasty!
Twix Soft Centres work out at 4 Syns each when put though the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website.
You can pick up a pack of 8 Twix Soft Centres biscuits from Tesco at a special price of £1.00 per pack until 14.8.18.
Breyers Salted Caramel Cake Low Calorie Ice Cream
Not to be outdone, Breyers have now brought out two new flavours to add to their low Syn range of frozen desserts, too!
The word on the street is that this Salted Caramel Cake flavour could be the best thing since sliced…cake?! Apparently it has a honeycomb flavour and has pieces of actual cake! I cannot wait to get my hands on this!
You can find this new flavour Breyers ice cream on offer in Asda, priced at £2.50 for a 500ml tub. (Usual price £5.00) A 53g serving works out at 3.5 Syns using the Snackulator.
Breyers Delights Sweet Berry Choc Chip Ice Cream
There’s another new flavour from Breyers this week, Sweet Berry Choc Chip Ice Cream. It’s a raspberry flavoured ice cream with chocolate chips. Nom!
All flavours of Breyers ice creams are on offer in Asda at the moment, so a 500ml tub will cost £2.50 instead of the usual price of £5.00. Stock up while the offer lasts!
This flavour calculates at 3.5 Syns per 55g serving via the Snackulator.
