Every week we search supermarkets and food websites to bring you a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World always recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
ASDA Crinkle Cut Butternut Chips
Butternut squash, or BNS for short, is a really versatile vegetable. You can dice it, slice it, roast it…the list goes on! Asda were one of the first stores to introduce Squaffles, a lattice-cut disc of butternut squash, and Boodles, which are BNS noodles.
Butternut Squash is also a speed food, so it’s a fab way to fill your plate with 1/3 speed at meal times. Crinkle cut BNS chips give your plate a bit more ‘meal appeal’ too!
You can pick them up from Asda in the prepared veg fridge on the fresh fruit and vegetables aisle. A 400g pack costs £1.25
ASDA Watermelon, Apple, Strawberries & Blueberries
Most supermarkets sell prepared fruit in one form or another, either individual pots, larger packs or platters.
They’re a great way to stay on track if you’re out and about, to have as a dessert, or just to dip into as a snack at anytime.
Fruit selections can often be a mixture of free and speed, but this fruit tray contains watermelon, apple, strawberries and blueberries, all speed foods.
This fruit pack costs £1.75 for 190g and is available from Asda.
ASDA Mild Pea Shoot Salad
The range of prepared salad bags can be quite mind-boggling when you’re in the fresh fruit and veg aisle. Gone are the days of a few wilted, floppy leaves looking a bit sorry for themselves!
This Mild Pea Shoot Salad contains a selection of Baby Spinach, Pea Shoots , Baby Red Leaves for a fresh and crisp salad.
So, forget about the boring lettuce, try this Asda Mild Pea Shoot Salad instead. It costs just 70p for a 90g bag.
ASDA Beetroot, Baby Spinach & Baby Kale Salad
As I mentioned earlier, there are many different salad bag selections out there to choose from, and here’s another one!
Asda Beetroot, Baby Spinach and Baby Kale salad contains beetroot, a dark red shredded vegetable with a sweet flavour and crisp texture, baby spinach, a dark green leaf with a mild, creamy flavour, and baby kale, another green leaf, with an earthy flavour.
Try serving a handful of this salad with our Syn Free Crustless Quiche Lorraine for lunch!
Salad bags are ideal for a quick and simple speed food boost. This selection is available from Asda, priced at 70p for 120g.
Tesco Farmhouse Mixed Vegetables
When you’ve been preparing a delicious meal for the family, you need a side dish to serve with it. This Tesco Farmhouse Mixed Vegetable selection is just the job!
A classic mix of carrots, garden peas and broccoli and cauliflower florets, individually frozen so that they don’t clump together.
This would be great served with our scrummy Syn Free Bacon, Onion and Potato Bake.
Carrots, cauliflower and broccoli are all speed foods, and peas are protein, as well as being free, so this mix is fine to enjoy on an SP day, too.
Morrisons The Best Sweet Minted Baby Beetroot
Beetroot is usually associated with a jar of pickling vinegar, which can sometimes have quite a sharp flavour. It’s a simple, colourful and flavoursome addition to a salad.
Personally, I love beetroot in any shape or form, whether pickled in vinegar, shredded in a salad or roasted. We already know that Beetroot is amazing combined with mint in our amazing Syn Free Beetroot and Mint Hummus.
This week I discovered The Best Sweet Minted Baby Beetroot in Morrisons…and loved it! It has a much more mellow flavour than a standard jar of pickled beetroot.
It’s important to mention that this beetroot is in a mint flavoured marinade and is not Syn Free. Having said that, it’s only 0.5 Syns per half a pack, which is fine.
Morrisons The Best Sweet Minted Baby Beetroot costs £1.25 for 150g.
Off The Hook Crayfish Tails
We have a little saying here, ‘If it swims, it slims!’ Fish and seafood are great foods when you’re on Slimming World, and we usually get good losses when we include some in our weekly meal plans.
These Crayfish tails are a delicious alternative to prawns in a salad, why not try this recipe for prawn cocktail, but using crayfish tails instead.
You can also use them in place of prawns in any of our fishy recipes. These Off The Hook cooked and peeled crayfish tails are free, and crayfish is also a protein food.
Asda Edamame, Asparagus & Mint Burgers
With a bank holiday fast approaching, and summer allegedly on the way, many people will be brushing down the barbecue for it’s first outing of the year.
Asda have joined the party with a new range of frozen vegetarian/vegan friendly burgers, the first of which are these Edamame, Asparagus & Mint burgers. They’re 4.5 Syns each on Syns Online.
Vegetarian burgers made with kale, spinach, green beans, broccoli, chickpeas, edamame soya beans, sunflower seeds, asparagus, mint and cracked black pepper.
They carry the Vegan Society logo, so they’re suitable for both vegans and vegetarians.
These Edamame, Asparagus & Mint Burgers are available from Asda, priced at £1.50 for a pack of 2 burgers.
Asda Beetroot & Spinach Burgers
Asda have launched another variety of vegetarian/vegan burger this week too, with these Beetroot and Spinach burgers.
Prepared using beetroot, spinach and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds, these make another tasty alternative if you don’t eat meat.
The sunflower seeds make the Syn count slightly higher, listed as 5 Syns each on the Slimming World app.
If you’d like to save a few syns, you could try these Syn Free Halloumi Cous Cous burgers as a vegetarian meal choice.
Asda Beetroot and Spinach Burgers cost £1.50 for 2. You will find them in the freezer section.
Asda Mushroom & Kale Sausages
If you thought the new vegetarian/vegan range from Asda was all about burgers, then you’re in for a pleasant surprise.
They’ve also introduced some sausages to the range, which are also approved by the Vegan Society.
The first new variety are vegetarian sausages made with mushrooms, kale, green lentils and brown rice. Again, these have a sprinkling of sunflower seeds to add some texture.
Slimming World have already listed these on the app at just 2.5 Syns each. You’ll find them in the freezer at Asda, priced at £1.50 for 6 sausages.
Asda Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato & Red Pepper Sausages
More goodies from Asda for the vegetarian/vegans amongst us! These Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato and Red Pepper sausages sound really good, I’m looking forward to trying them.
These sausages are also listed on the Syns Online app at 2.5 Syns each. They are made with butternut squash, sweet potato, spinach, red pepper and sunflower seeds.
Available in Asda, a pack of 6 sausages costs £1.50.
Quorn Pieces 500g
Quorn has been around for such a long time now, it’s become a convenient choice for vegetarians due to it’s versatility.
It will readily take on other flavours, so it’s great for cooking with, whether you choose the Quorn mince, or Quorn pieces.
We have already highlighted several new vegetarian/vegan choices for this week’s shopping, but we just wanted to draw your attention to this offer.
These Quorn products aren’t new, but if you’re a vegetarian, they’re pretty essential, and they’re on offer at half price this week in Iceland. Bargain!
Kelloggs Super Granola Cocoa – New HEB!
We often get questions in the Facebook group about which granola options can be used as an Healthy Extra B choice.
This week we have a new granola that’s been added to the Healthy Extras list. Not only that, this one is chocolatey! Whoop!
Kelloggs Super Granola is made up of mixed cereal & cocoa clusters with sunflower seeds, almonds and cashews. 35g of this counts as an HEB choice, or 7.5 Syns.
Danone Light & Free Pomaberry
Danone Light & Free yogurts are pretty popular in Slimming World circles, as they are sugar free, although they do contain naturally occurring sugars.
More importantly for some, they are gelatine free too. All flavours are free on the Syns Online app.
This Pomaberry flavour has been added to the range and it’s really tasty. The fruity flavours come from pomegranate, blackberries and raspberries.
This flavour combination would be fab in our Low Syn Unicorn Eton Mess.
It’s not a smooth yogurt, (I know that’s an important consideration for some people!) as it has some small fruit pieces and the raspberry and blackberry seeds.
ASDA Low Cal Jelly Pots
One of our Facebook Group members, Kayleigh, alerted us to these new Asda Jelly pots a few days ago, so we thought we’d check them out!
They are available in 4 flavours, Raspberry, Strawberry, Blackcurrant and Orange, and all flavours work out free on the Syns Calculator, using the nutritional information from the Asda website.
These would be a good choice to satisfy a sweet tooth, and they’re also suitable for vegetarians. They cost 47p per pot in Asda.
Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn
I adore popcorn, and I’m a bit of an early adopter when it comes to trying new flavours. This Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn looks really good, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a pack to try.
The blurb says that this is hand-popped, butterfly corn in a rich blend of Fairtrade cocoa and demerara sugar for a sweet, chocolatey hit.
When I read the ingredients the alarm bells started clanging, I assumed that this popcorn would be really high in syns. It works out at 6.5 Syns per bag, which is pretty good really.
Propercorn Chocolate Popcorn is available from Ocado and costs 80p for 26g bag.
Del Monte Sicilian Lemon Smoothie Stick
Those of a certain age will remember a famous advertisement on the TV for fruit juice, ‘The Man from Del Monte…he said YES!’ Well, as soon as I saw these I said YES too!
Lemon has to be one of my favourite flavours, I’ll choose it over pretty much anything else. (Except chocolate, obviously!)
Del Monte Sicilian Lemon Smoothie Sticks are made using real fruit. They come in a pack of 3 lollies, which costs £2.50 from Ocado. They are on the Syns Online app at 4.5 Syns each.
Green & Black’s Velvet Fruit Orange
Here’s a new twist on a traditional chocolate orange flavour. Green & Black’s make some delicious flavour combinations, some of which we have featured in previous Shopping Essentials articles.
I spotted these new chocolates on the Ocado website this week, whilst searching for items to include on the shopping list.
If you like the combination of dark chocolate and orange then these might be just for you!
A packet of Green & Black’s Velvet Fruit Orange chocolates costs £3.29 and the Syns work out at 6.5 Syns per 8 pieces.
