Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 550,800 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the Shopping Essentials as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
If you’re a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll know that we always try to include a range of Free Foods, some Speed Foods and a few exciting ways to use your Syns allowance, too!
We search supermarkets to bring you a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World always recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Aldi Super 6 Vegetable Offer
With the Easter long weekend upon us, many will be planning meals for the whole family. Vegetables are always a great way to fill up those plates, and Aldi’s Super 6 offer this week will help enormously!
There’s a great selection of Speed and Free vegetables on offer this week, at a super low price, too!
- Swede – for a Syn Free Buttery Carrot and Swede side dish
- Leeks – try our Syn Free Vegetable Stew with Orzo
- Carrots – whizz up a batch of our Syn Free Carrot & Butter Bean soup
- Red/White cabbage – great for our Syn Free Coleslaw
- Parsnips – Half Syn Honey Glazed Roast Parsnips
- Potatoes – for perfect Syn Free Roast Potatoes
With the exception of the potatoes, which are 29p per pack, all these other veg are just 19p per pack!
Most of the other supermarkets have offers on fresh vegetables this weekend, so keep those eyes peeled!
Tesco Micro Vegetable Mix
I’m always on the lookout for products that will save me some precious time in the kitchen! I’m usually on call as a taxi service for my children, so it’s fab to find new ideas that are quick and on plan.
Tesco Micro Vegetable Mix is a pack of 4 individual bags of frozen mixed broccoli, sweet potato, beetroot and kale.
The broccoli, beetroot and kale are all speed foods, so it’s a great way to add some speed to a meal, without all the peeling and chopping!
Morrisons Giant Cous Cous & Quinoa
I’m still on my time-saving quest with this Morrisons Giant Cous Cous and Quinoa with Sweetcorn, Edamame Soya Beans, Green Beans, Tomato and Red Onion.
I spotted it in the freezer section on Morrisons last night and grabbed some to try. It made a really quick and easy meal when served with a delicious piece of pan-fried Salmon.
As with many similar products, this does contain rapeseed oil, so it’s not free. However, at 4 Syns for half of this 500g bag, it’s a really tasty and satisfying meal option.
A 500g pack of Morrisons Giant Cous Cous & Quinoa with vegetables costs £1.75.
Aunt Bessie’s Carrot Chips
The Aunt Bessie’s brand is synonymous with frozen convenience food. In pre-Slimming World days, anyone looking in my freezer would have been forgiven for thinking I was related to her!
We’ve seen a few enquiries to our Facebook page about these Aunt Bessie’s Carrot Chips, so we thought we’d check them out!
In essence, they are Carrot chips coated in sunflower oil with a smoked paprika seasoning. Obviously the oil is Synned, so although carrots are speed foods, you’d need to Syn these Aunt Bessie’s Carrot Chips.
Aunt Bessie’s Swede Chips
Good old Auntie Bess has been busy…not only Carrot chips, but Swede chips too! If you’ve never thought of making chips with anything other than potatoes, there are lots of other options!
Many people in the Facebook group have made an SP day alternative to chips using Speed Vegetables such as butternut squash, carrots, celeriac or swede.
For more SP day ideas of vegetables to accompany your meals, take a look here at our SP Vegetable Alternatives.
These Aunt Bessie’s Swede Chips are on the Syns Online database at 1.5 Syns per 100g, when cooked in the oven and cost £1.50 for a 500g bag. You’ll find them here, on the Tesco website.
(N.B. These would not be counted as Speed vegetables if you’re doing an SP day.)
Hearty Food Co Fish Steaks In Butter Sauce
We’ve all heard the mantra, ‘If it swims, it slims!’ so we try to include a couple of fish meals each week on our Slimming World journey.
One of my favourite fish meals is our Syn Free Chilli and Lime Baked Salmon. It’s so easy to make and it tastes amazing!
These Fish Steaks in Butter Sauce are new to Tesco, but in spite of the description, they’re surprisingly low, at just 3 Syns per portion.
Skinless and boneless Pollock fish steaks, in a buttery sauce. These would be great to keep in the freezer for a really quick midweek supper, with some added Speed vegetables.
Men’s Health Kitchen Lean Beef & Chickpea Mince
When you’re following Slimming World, mince is a versatile ingredient that forms the base of many a meal. As long as you choose mince that has a fat content of 5% or less, it’s free!
My favourite ever Slimming World meal, Syn Free Chilli Cheesy Nachos, uses minced beef and is a weekly feature on my meal planner!
This Men’s Health Kitchen Lean Beef and Chick Pea mince combines 60% minced beef with 40% Chick Peas for a protein rich mince choice.
It’s listed as free on the Slimming World database, so it’s fine to use in place of normal 5% minced beef.
This 400g pack costs £3.00, new to the Sainsbury’s range.
Bay Fishmongers Cold Water Prawns
Prawns are often overlooked when it comes to Protein foods on Slimming World. They’re great for throwing in a salad, adding to a simple stir fry or making a Syn Free Fish Pie. Best of all, they’re free!
If you’re planning a family meal this weekend, how about having our Syn Free Prawn Cocktail as a starter?
Cooked and peeled wild Atlantic prawns that are ready to eat, available from the chilled fish aisle at Tesco.
Butchers Choice Cooked Chicken Slices
I seem to have developed a theme for the Shopping Essentials round up this week, finding convenient, quick and easy options for meals!
These Butchers Choice Cooked Chicken Slices do exactly what they say on the bag. Frozen skinless and boneless cooked, sliced chicken breast fillets.
Chicken is a big favourite when you’re on Slimming World as it’s a Protein food and you can use it in such a wide variety of dishes.
Quorn Vegan Cumberland Sausages
If you don’t eat meat, or just fancy a meat free meal, these Quorn Vegan Cumberland Sausages are certainly worth a look. You could even have them as part of a Slimming World breakfast!
Quorn Vegan Cumberland Sausages have recently been added to the Quorn range and are now available from Tesco.
They’d be ideal for our delicious and filling Low Syn Spicy Sausage Pasta recipe, too!
Breyers Vanilla Caramel High Protein Ice Cream Bar
As you know, here at Pinch of Nom we’re always finding new ways to enjoy ice cream, especially when it’s low in Syns.
Measuring ice cream is often a controversial talking point in the Facebook group, as Syn values are given in millilitres, but we measure it in grams. The problem is that ice cream is not liquid when consumed, so it’s tricky!
These Breyers Vanilla Caramel High Protein Ice Cream Bars are made from Vanilla flavour ice cream with a caramel sauce coated in milk chocolate with peanuts.
They don’t need any weighing or measuring, they’re already measured and wrapped in individual portions! Perfect for protecting your losses!
Häagen-Dazs Salted Caramel & Peanut Butter Crunch Mini Ice Cream Bars
If you’re up for a little bit of indulgence that’s still within your Syns allowance for the day, have a look at these!
Häagen-Dazs is definitely at the luxury end of the scale when it comes to ice cream. When you combine luxury ice cream with favourite flavours like salted caramel, or peanut butter crunch, you’re onto a winner!
Salted Peanut flavour are 7 Syns each and Peanut Butter Crunch are 7.5 Syns each using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website.
The Häagen-Dazs Salted Peanut and Peanut Butter Crunch flavours come in a box of 5 x 200ml mini ice cream bars, priced at £3.50 from Sainsbury’s.
Mr Kipling Velvety Chocolate Whirls
Mr Kipling always has something seasonal up his sleeve. This Easter is no exception, with these delicious Velvety Chocolate Whirls.
Scrumptious chocolate flavoured shortcake whirls filled with a chocolate sauce and smooth chocolate flavoured filling. They’re 8.5 Syns each on the Syns Calculator.
If you’re in the mood for baking some chocolate treats that are lower in Syns, why not make some of our Low Syn Chocolate Creme Egg Cakes for an Easter eggstravaganza!
They’re a limited edition, so they won’t be around for long. A box of 6 Mr Kipling Velvety Chocolate Whirls costs £1.00 from Asda.
The Coconut Collaborative Mango Dipped Snowconut Sticks
We always try to find a couple of ‘Free From’ items on the shopping list every week, so that we can find something that will appeal to everyone.
This week, we have Mango dipped Snowconut sticks. The non dairy coconut and vanilla dessert is made with coconut cream and dipped in mango for a deliciously tropical twist.
Made from natural sugars only, these Mango dipped Snowconut sticks are also gluten and soya free and suitable for vegans. They work out at 3.5 Syns each using the snackulator.
A box of 3 x 85ml Mango Dipped Snowconut Sticks costs £3.50 from Sainsbury’s.
Sprite Lemon Lime And Cucumber
If you’re an avid reader of our weekly Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll recognise this new flavour of Sprite.
We featured the canned version of Sprite Lemon, Lime and Cucumber a few weeks ago in one of our February Shopping Lists.
As I said then, my inner gin-drinking self was thinking ‘Oooooh! That’ll be nice!’
I’m sure it’s refreshing and delicious as a soft drink, and as it’s Syn free, it’s a great choice. It would definitely be lovely as a mixer, too! 😉 Don’t forget to check the Syn values in those spirits though. If you’re not sure, check here.
Cadbury Mini Eggs Carton
We can’t avoid it, Easter weekend is upon us. Well, if we can’t avoid it, we need to plan for it! As long as you’ve planned the treats you’re going to have over the weekend, you can stay perfectly on track!
We thought we’d bring you a couple of chocolatey goodies to spend your Syns on. After all, you don’t need to miss out on all the fun!
Cadbury Mini Eggs are a fab way to use your allowance, as they’re just 1 Syn each. If you’ve saved your Syns, you can have 15 mini eggs!
Lindt Gold Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny
These cute little Lindt Gold Milk Chocolate Easter Bunnies are adorable.
With this pack of 5 x 10g bunnies, you can enjoy the delicious taste of Lindt Milk Chocolate in perfectly packaged portions.
They’re on the Syns Online database for 3 Syns each, so technically you could eat all 5, if you saved your Syns for the day, or savour the flavour and have one each day to look forward to and satisfy the urge for a taste of chocolate.
Malteaster Bunny Milk Chocolate Bar
If you’re a Maltesers fan, you’ll definitely be familiar with the crunchy malt filling, covered in milk chocolate. There are also the very more-ish Malteser bars of chocolate, too. Nom Nom Nom!
These Malteaster treats are scrummy milk chocolate bunnies with a crunchy & creamy malt filling and honeycombed pieces.
I’ll certainly be saving some Syns to indulge in one of these over the Easter weekend. They’re 8 Syns each, but worth it, in my opinion!
Shopping Essentials Top Pick
Our Shopping Essentials Top Pick is a featured highlight of the week! This week, we’ve chosen Ben & Jerry’s Moophoria Ice Cream.
Pinch of Nom have two great Easter weekend deals for you in conjunction with the Protein Food Shop!
The first offer is 10% off everything until Monday 2nd using code: NOMSAVER
