Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 672,700 members – it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our New Slimming World Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), but you can join up using the link below for the latest news and discussions on brand new Slimming World-friendly products.

Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Lidl Pick of the Week
Budget supermarkets are a good shout when looking for fruit and veg bargains. They offer a pretty comprehensive selection, and stores such as Lidl and Aldi have weekly offers too.
This week we’re looking at Lidl’s Pick of the Week, which are all speed food choices.
- Romaine Hearts – for tucking inside our Syn Free Chicken Shawarma
- Spinach – can be added to soups, stews and curries, even quiche!
- Braeburn Apples – crisp and juicy, fab for packed lunches
- Onions – ideal for our Syn Free Cheese & Onion Pasties
Prices range from 49p to 99p per pack. Offer available in Lidl stores until Weds 5th September, while stocks last.
Lidl Celery ‘Storks’
Well done if you spotted the play on words for these! Lidl are selling celery stalks, or ‘storks’ in their fresh fruit and veg section at the moment.
They are brilliant for dipping, so would be perfect with one of our Syn free Hummus recipes.
This one is my favourite – Syn Free Beetroot & Mint Hummus – it tastes sooooo good! Perfect for a packed lunch or an evening attack of the munchies.
They cost 69p per pack, ready prepped and no waste. Available from Lidl.
Tesco Tropical Flavour Burst grapes
In the Shopping List article from a couple of weeks ago, we showed the Strawberry Flavour Burst grapes from Tesco, and we’ve talked about Cotton Candy grapes too!
Tesco have another variety of grapes to try with these Tropical Flavour Burst grapes. They’re delicious, and free on Slimming World.
They won’t be around for long as the season for these unusual flavours is pretty short.
Lidl Protein Pot
Tesco (and other supermarkets) have been selling protein pots for a while now. They are a really handy chilled grab-and-go option for snacking. Now Lidl are selling them too.
The pot contains hard boiled eggs and spinach leaves. That’s it! Just Speed and protein to keep you right on plan. They cost 99p per pot in Lidl.
Lidl Sushi Box Naniwa
So many people ask about what they can grab to eat when you’re out and about. It’s a common question in the Facebook Group. Sandwiches are off the list for many because of the high Syn values.
These Sushi Boxes from Lidl are just 2.5 Syns per 190g pack. They’re a generous size and really filling.
If you add some speed food, maybe a handful of salad or tomatoes, you’ve got a great lunch choice.
Lidl Naniwa Sushi Box costs £1.99
Lidl Lighthouse Bay King Prawns
Prawns are a great choice on Slimming World. Not only are they free, but they’re a protein food, too.
Great for eating on the Extra Easy plan and if you’re having an SP day, or if you fancy a change for lunch or dinner.
They’re really versatile, you can eat them cold in a traditional Syn Free Prawn Cocktail Salad.
This recipe isn’t a dated 70’s dinner party throwback, with a few limp-looking prawns hanging over the side of a glass dish, but a delicious light dish to enjoy anytime.
You can also use them to make delicious dishes like our Syn Free Seafood Pasta. Nom! This 150g pack of cooked and peeled, ready to eat king prawns costs £1.79 from Lidl.
Lidl Moroccan Style Pulled Lamb
I spotted this in Lidl on Tuesday and couldn’t wait to check out the Syn values for myself.
It sounds pretty amazing, slow-cooked and oak-smoked lamb shoulder with apricot glaze and a herb dressing.
This doesn’t appear on the Slimming World database, so I’ve used the Syns calculator to work out that half a pack is 2.5 Syns.
I really fancy this with a WW wrap as my HEB and some Syn Free Coleslaw. The 343g pack costs £3.49 from Lidl.
Gran Luchito Red Pepper/Chipotle Salsa
Salsa is a tempting way to brighten up a dish without going to too much effort.
If you love home-made salsa, or even if you’ve never thought about making your own, you should try our recipe for Syn Free Pineapple Salsa.
There’s also a great tomato & chilli salsa in this recipe for Syn Free Halloumi Cous Cous Burgers.
If you want something really quick that you can just dollop onto the plate, why not try this Gran Luchito Salsa. It would be a-maz-ing with our Low Syn Jerk Chicken. Soooo good!
It’s available in two yummy sounding flavours, Fire Roasted Red Pepper, or Super Smoky Chipotle.
Prep.Co Snack Pots
Our weekly Shopping Essentials round up frequently has new snack pots type products.
We know that sometimes there just isn’t time to lovingly prepare a lunch to take to work, or you have done just that, but left it in the fridge at home! Grrrr!
It’s all too easy to grab crisps, or a chocolate bar, but they won’t fill you for long. You’ll end up with a growling tum and feeling guilty for wasting Syns.
If you’re not able to get to a shop that sells Slimming World friendly stuff, you’re stuck!
It’s worth keeping a low Syn option on standby, like these pots.
If you need something super fast, and have access to a kettle, the snack pots are a quick way to satisfy those hunger pangs.
They have a relatively low Syn value, although the flavours do vary.
- Mediterranean Couscous – 4 Syns per pot
- Mexican Chilli Rice – 3 Syns per pot
- Thai Green Rice & Quinoa – 2.5 Syns per pot
- Indian Spiced Lentils & Rice – 2 Syns per pot
Capsicana Seasoning Mix
We have featured Flava-It sachets and the Aldi equivalent in recent weeks on the Shopping Essentials list.
The sachets are an easy way to add flavour to meat, fish and vegetables.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll have a herb & spice collection that spills out of the spice rack and into cupboards.
Since starting Slimming World, I cook the majority of meals from scratch, so I have lots of jars of spices and pots of herbs to play with!
Confident cooks know instinctively which flavours to add to a recipe when cooking, but sometimes it’s tricky to know what pairs well.
These seasoning mixes do the hard work for you. There’s a small Syn value, but as the sachets serve 4, it’s divided by four, so not too bad at all!
- Paprika & Spices – 3.5 Syns per sachet
- Cumin & Chipotle – 4 Syns per sachet
Syn values have been worked out using the Syns calculator on the Slimming World website.
At the moment, these Capsicana sachets are on offer in Sainsbury’s, priced at 75p, down from the usual price of £1.00
Lidl Snaktastic Popcorn Sweet/Sweet & Salty
Earlier this week, I ventured into Lidl to hunt for things for this week’s list. When I’m out and about I’m always looking, just in case I spot something suitable to include here.
This also invariably means I buy things to try too!
Whilst standing at the checkout, I spotted this new Lidl popcorn.
It’s available in 3 flavours; Sweet, Salted and Sweet & Salty. The bags pictured are 27g bags, which have 120 cals, so they work out at 6 Syns on snackulator and cost 42p.
Freeway Fruit Crush Sparkling drinks
I’m always looking out for soft drinks to enjoy on the Slimming World plan. I’m usually called upon for ‘Mums Taxi’ duties.
Much as I love a G & T in the evening, more often than not I’m driving somewhere, so it’s not an option.
These Freeway sparkling drinks are from Lidl, and the flavours are a little bit different. Morello Cherry, Fruit Cocktail or Mexican Lime & Elderflower. (Actually, that lime and elderflower one would work well with gin….Mmmm! I digress!)
Freeway Fruit Crush Sparkling Drinks are Syn free, come in a 1 litre bottle and cost 49p from Lidl stores.
Maryland Cookie Bites Choc Chip & Caramel/Choc Chip
Traditional Maryland chocolate chip cookies have been around for a long time, but these are new, and they look gorgeous!
Mini choc chip or choc chip & caramel cookies, smothered in milk chocolate.
These cookies would certainly hit the spot and satisfy a chocolate craving.
They are 1 Syn per cookie bite on the Slimming World database, so they can be enjoyed within your Syns allowance for the day.
If you love chocolate chip cookies, you could always make our thoroughly more-ish 2 Syn Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. They’re really rather lovely!
Tesco No Added Sugar Chocolate/Choc Hazelnut spread
A certain brand of chocolate hazelnut spread has always been my downfall! I’m probably not the only one who’s eaten Nutella straight off the spoon from a jar, am I?! Surely not!
Tesco have launched No Added Sugar Chocolate and Chocolate Hazelnut spread, which sounds as though it should be better for you and be lower in Syns too, right?
Nutella is 4 Syns per level tablespoon on the Slimming World database, so I was hoping that this would be lower.
The Tesco version isn’t on the database yet, but using the Syns Calculator it works out exactly the same, 4 Syns per tbsp.
Gingerbread/Salted Caramel Matchmakers
When I was teaching, Matchmakers were a standard Christmas gift from children I taught. For this reason, I’ve always associated them with the festive season.
It was usually mint or orange flavour, but now there are new flavours to choose from.
I think I’ve seen Salted Caramel flavour recently, but now Tesco have started selling Gingerbread flavour.
Salted Caramel are listed on the Slimming World database at 1 Syn per stick, as are the mint, orange and honeycomb varieties.
Using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website, the Gingerbread flavour works out at 1 Syn per stick too! They cost £2.00 per box in Tesco.
Tesco Fruit/Cereal Bites
There are lots of snacks that are marketed as healthier options, but very few of them are Slimming World friendly.
Many of them are made using cereals and dried fruit, which don’t have a free food allowance.
We have a fab recipe for Low Syn Cranberry & Almond Oat Cookies on the website, which are definitely worth making! Nom!
There are three flavours of these new Tesco Fruit & Cereal Bites;
- Cranberry, Coconut & Strawberry Bites – 1.5 Syns each
- Almond Bites – 1.5 Syns each
- Cocoa & Orange Bites – 1 Syn each

Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
