Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 364,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.

Happy New Year! A few of you noticed that we didn’t compile the Shopping Essentials list over the festive season, but now we’re all back on track! We have lots of new products to share with you, too!
We always try to bring you some Speed Food ideas in the Shopping Essentials list, and this week is no exception. Speed Foods are a vital part of the Slimming World plan.
You can check out our handy list of Speed Foods here.
Aldi always have a selection of fruit and vegetables on special offer. They’re great value for money so it’s always worth checking out what’s available.
This week they have Salad Tomatoes, Spring onions, Beetroot, Iceberg lettuce, Celery and Radishes all at just 39p per pack.
As simple as it seems to just chuck all these in a salad, you can always use them as ingredients in recipes. How about trying our delicious Syn Free Beetroot and Mint Hummus?
The selection changes fortnightly, so you won’t get bored of the same fruit or vegetables either.
Lidl – Pick of the week
Not to be outdone, Lidl, another budget supermarket, has a weekly fruit and vegetable offer.
These are great offers to take advantage of, as they can help you make savings on your weekly shop. The prices vary, according to the product and pack size.
Red Onions – 39p per 750g pack
Medium Oranges – 79p per pack (5)
British Red Gala Apples – 89p per pack (min 5 fruits)
Curly Kale – 59p per 200g pack
It’s well worth keeping an eye on these offers if you’re trying to reduce your shopping bill.

Morrisons Mackerel Fillets
We have a few sayings in the Slimming World dictionary.
One of our favourites is “If it swims, it slims!” We often find that if we enjoy a few fish recipes throughout the week, we have better losses.
Fish and seafood are great when you’re following Slimming World as they are free food and fish is P (Protein) food, too.
Morrisons have a great range of fish, many stores have a wet fish counter and a fishmonger in the store, which is a real bonus.
These Morrisons mackerel fillets are individually frozen, so you can use what you need and save the rest for another day.
A 360g pack costs £3.00
Morrisons Raw Peeled King Prawns
Continuing the seafood theme, these frozen Morrisons Raw Peeled King Prawns are delicious.
They are juicy and sweet, and they’d be ideal in our 1 Syn Paella recipe.
What a great way to banish the winter blues with this dish, conjuring up a sunny mediterranean evening!
These prawns are in the frozen section at Morrisons, so you can pop them into your freezer and take out just what you need for your recipe.
The prawns cost £3.00 for a 200g pack in Morrisons.
Morrisons The Best Scallops
Now, for a real touch of luxury, how about these amazing Morrisons The Best Scallops. They’re an indulgent treat, but super healthy and ideal when you’re following the Slimming World plan.
Scallops are Free Food and would make a deliciously quick and simple supper. My mouth’s watering already at the thought of these pan-fried with some bacon and served with tenderstem broccoli!
They’re definitely on my list for this week!
These scrummy Scallops are from Morrisons, priced at £6.00 for 200g bag.
Tesco Cooked Mussels
The final offering from the frozen fish counter for this week – cooked mussels. These have to be one of the most convenient ways to add seafood to a dish.
No fiddly shells to contend with, just defrost and toss into a seafood salad.
You could add to the Paella recipe, pictured above, or cook in a spicy tomato/chilli sauce and serve with some pasta.
We also have a fab recipe for Syn Free Seafood Pasta here!
Once again, being frozen, you can take out exactly what you need and save the rest!
Sainsbury’s Mushroom Mince
We were delighted to find some new vegetarian products in Sainsbury’s this week.
There are several new products on their website, but when I popped into my local store today, they hadn’t received all of the new stock yet.
Nonetheless, I did pick up a pack of this mushroom mince to try. It has quite a chunky texture, so that when cooked, it doesn’t just go to a mushy, mushroomy mess!
It would be a great addition to a pasta sauce with tomatoes and herbs. I can see it working well in a vegetarian lasagne, too.
This mushroom mince costs £1.20 for a 250g pack. It’s not on Syns Online yet, but comes out Free on the Syns Calculator.
Sainsbury’s Cauli burger
Another new product in the Sainsbury’s vegetarian range this week is this Sainsbury’s Cauli burger.
The ingredients include Spiced mushroom, cauliflower and lentils with chilli and coriander.
I can’t wait to try this, even though I’m not a vegetarian. That combination of flavours sounds pretty good to me!
We have a really good vegetarian recipe for Syn Free Halloumi Couscous Burgers with Salsa on the website, too.
These Cauli burgers from Sainsbury’s come in a pack of 2, costing £1.80. You’ll find it in the chilled, prepared veg section.
Sainsbury’s Pulled Jackfruit
We had a message from one of our Facebook group members, Samantha, to tell us about this. Described as ‘A sweet and smoky vegan alternative to pulled pork’, you simply cook it in the oven and shred it with two forks.
Samantha told us that it was delicious, and a great vegan alternative. Given that some people are celebrating ‘Veganuary’ this month, it seemed appropriate to include this product in the Shopping Essentials round up!
It’s now on Syns Online for 2.5 Syns per portion.
The pack serves two people and costs £2.50 from Sainsbury’s.
Flame Roasted Red Peppers
You know sometimes, in the evening, when you get an attack of the munchies? Not just me, then!
The other day I had just such an attack, so I whizzed up some Syn Free Red Pepper Hummus and tucked in!
These peppers are ideal for this recipe. If you’re going to make it yourself, do make sure that you pick up a jar of peppers in brine or vinegar.
These are Free food! If you accidentally grab a jar of peppers in oil, you’ll be well over your Syns for the day.
These are available from Ocado priced at £2.19 per jar.
Muller Light – New Flavour
There’s always a little flurry of excitement when a new flavour of Muller Light is launched, and this one is no exception!
Yes, Raspberry doughnut flavour! Now, before you get carried away, this doesn’t have chunks of doughnut bobbing around in a raspberry yogurt, but if you have a sweet tooth, this is bound to hit the spot!
It’s not on Syns Online yet, but as the nutritional values are comparable with other flavours, we’re pretty sure it’ll be free.
It looks as though this is only available in Asda at the moment, but there’s no doubt it will be rolled out to other supermarkets very soon.
Asda currently have their 12 yogurts for £3.00 offer on all flavours of Muller Light yogurts. Individual pots cost 68p each.
Co-op popped savoury snacks
I popped into the Co-op on my way home from weigh-in on Tuesday. Whilst standing in the checkout queue I spotted these, so I ducked out of the queue to take a closer look!
There are lots of baked crisps and snack products around, but I thought I’d give these a go.
I was pleasantly surprised!
They’re nicely crunchy and the salt and vinegar flavour that I tried was really zingy! They’re definitely worth a try to save a couple of Syns on a regular bag of crisps.
Salt and Vinegar Popped Chips
These are not on the app yet, but using the Syns Calculator they work out at 4.5 Syns for a 23g bag.
Spicy BBQ Popped Chips
Again, these are not on the app yet, but using the Syns Calculator they work out at 4.5 Syns for a 23g bag.
Co-op Sweet Chilli Lentil Tubes
These are the highest in Syns, they work out at 5.5 using the Syns Calculator.
Sweet Chilli Hoola Hoop Pufts
There’s a very regular question asked in our Facebook group – ‘Which crisps are the best value for my Syns?’ We know that it’s hard if you’re a crisp lover, but there are plenty of options out there!
Hola Hoop Pufts have been around for a while, but Jakki in our Facebook group posted these this week, so we wanted to spread the word!
This new Sweet Chilli flavour hasn’t appeared on the app yet, but using the Syns Calculator they work out at 3.5 Syns per 15g bag. They’re priced at £1.70 per multipack. Available from Tesco and Asda.
Finnebrogue Naked Bacon
For me, nothing beats a bacon buttie at the weekend. I regularly treat myself to a Perfect Low Syn BLT on a Sunday morning….it’s the best brunch EVER!
This bacon was featured in the news recently. It’s manufacturing process does not involve nitrates or E-numbers, making it healthier.
Rashers of unsmoked back bacon are Syn free on Slimming World as long as all visible fat is removed and it’s cooked in Frylight, or 1-cal spray oil.
The first packs of Naked Bacon will be available in Marks and Spencer from January 10th 2018, price unavailable at this time.
Extra Lean Ostrich Fillets
Ostrich meat may not be something you’ve considered before, but it’s a very healthy alternative red meat with all of the flavour and texture of beef.
It is rich in protein and high in iron yet is lower in fat (only 2%) calories and cholesterol than skinless chicken or turkey.
WW Low Fat White Wraps
When we first made our 1 Syn Corned Beef Pasties we were blamed for causing a national shortage of these Weight Watchers Low Fat White Wraps!
They’ve been incredibly popular, probably because they’re so versatile.
By using the Weight Watchers Low Fat Wrap as your Healthy Extra B choice for the day, you can save yourself 5.5 Syns!
Stockists up to now have been Asda, Morrisons and Tesco stores. They are now also available in Iceland!
Priced at £1.35 in Iceland, and currently on roll-back at Asda for 75p.
Sweet Freedom Choc Shot/Choc Pot
Sweet Freedom Choc Shot is one of those products that is often hard to locate! As a general rule, you’ll find it on the hot drinks aisle of your local supermarket.
It’s a versatile product, which comes in several different flavours.
Apart from using it as a hot chocolate drink, you can also use it in baking. Several of our Baked Oats recipes use it to give a chocolatey hit to your breakfast!
Choc pot was added to the range as a chocolate spread, used on toast and also in baking.
Iceland Chopped Garlic/Chilli
I love using garlic and chilli in my cooking! Both make such a difference in the flavour of dishes.
However, I don’t enjoy the lingering smell of garlic on my hands, or the potentially dangerous chance of rubbing your eyes when you’ve been chopping chillies. Ouch!!
I’ve had packs of frozen herbs and frozen garlic before, and it’s a super quick and convenient way to add those flavours with no preparation necessary!
Slimming World Beef Lasagne/Vegetable Lasagne
Those of you that attend a Slimming World group may well have been told about the Slimming World Beef Lasagne and Vegetable Lasagne in the last week or two.
Slimming World have always sold a range of frozen meals in Iceland. If you don’t have time to cook your own meal, they’re a good option to have on standby.
The Slimming World plan does encourage you to cook from scratch, but there are occasions when ready meals are handy.
Members of the Facebook group have generally been very positive about the new lasagne.
Comments such as ‘Not too peppery’, ‘Really Nice’, and ‘Amazing’ on the positive side, but a few negative comments too, such as ‘I didn’t like the pasta’, ‘a bit bland and watery’.
As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding! If you’re curious. give it a try.
Of course, if you’d prefer to cook your own, we have our recipe for Syn Free Lasagne on the website!
Both the Slimming World Beef Lasagne and Slimming World Vegetable Lasagne are £3.50 each from Iceland, but currently on offer at 2 meals for £5.00.
Available from Iceland, both meals are Syn Free.
Halo Top Ice cream
One afternoon this week, Kirstin posted a very enthusiastic post on our Facebook group. She announced, with whistles and bells, that Halo Top Ice Cream is now available in Tesco!
As soon as Kay saw the post, she got very excited and adjusted her Tesco order accordingly! Yes, Halo Top is apparently the stuff of dreams! Lower in Syns, it’s similar to the Oppo ice cream we featured a few weeks ago in our Shopping Essentials list.
It’s an American ice cream that has not been available in the UK up to now, but that’s all changed.
Tesco are now stocking 5 flavours of this ice cream.
Halo Top Peanut Butter Cup
Halo Top Chocolate Ice Cream
Halo Top Low Sugar Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream
Halo Top Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream
Halo Top Low Sugar Mint Chip Ice Cream
These Halo Top Ice Cream flavours are all available from Tesco, priced at £5.00 per tub. The Syn values quoted have been worked out using the Syns calculator. You’ll find these Halo Top ice creams here, on the Tesco website.
