Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 185,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!), one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.
This week we’ve got lots of new products that are perfect for the weather warming up, and Summer rolling in ☀️ Drinks, ice cream and soooo much more!
Multi-coloured Tomatoes – Speed Food
Did you know that there are over 100 varieties of tomatoes?
I’m so glad these multicoloured tomatoes are back in season, they are sooo pretty & very tasty!
It seems all the supermarkets are in on the act, with most of them having their own versions – I even think Lidl have them too for £1 a punnet.
The best thing about tomatoes? They’re a super speed food! They’re fab in pretty much anything, especially our Syn Free Orzo Pasta salad…
As for prices, they vary from £1-£3 a pack!
Tesco Fruit Salad – 1kg bags – Speed & Free Foods
I love keeping some frozen fruit in the freezer, it really does come in handy sometimes!
You can do what ever you like with these, personally, I like to use them as ice cubes in my water/alcoholic beverages.
You could also defrost a bowl in the fridge overnight to have for breakfast. Saves keeping and prepping fruit, and it’ll keep for much longer than fresh fruit.
You could enjoy them in our Melon Bowl – the perfect Slimming World speedy breakfast!
You can get them in Tesco now.
Heritage Breeds Duck Eggs
We love duck eggs! If you haven’t tried them yet you really should!
Heritage Breeds are in the process of launching a range of free range eggs in Tesco, so we thought we’d mention these Heritage Breeds Gladys Mays Duck Eggs.
The eggs are bigger, with deep orange yolks & porcelain white shells.
They are laid by smaller flocks that are free to roam on grassy pastures, and are fed on wholesome vegetarians diets.
They are currently £2.69 for 6. Hopefully the rest of the range will be available very soon.
Tesco Summer Punch Mix – Speed Food
Tesco have really expanded their frozen fruit range over recent weeks, and this frozen summer punch mix will be a much welcome addition to my freezer.
I’ll be using these as ice cubes in pretty much all of my drinks this summer! These will go PERFECTLY with the M&S Sangria inspired spritzer (below!). I have a feeling this might become a rather popular combination!
Ainsley Harriott Sun-dried Tomato and Garlic Cous Cous – 500g Drums
This has been around for a while now in packet form, but this is a new 500g drum of savoury cous cous with sundried tomatoes, onion, garlic and parsley.
It’s perfect with chicken, pork or even fish, and all you need to do is add boiling water and wait 3 minutes.
We made some Low Syn Salmon Skewers with Ainsley Harriot cous cous a little while ago. Heaven!
It couldn’t be easier, and at 3 Syns per 100g it’s pretty economical on the Syns front too!
These are only available in Asda at the moment, and they are £3 each.
Capri Sun – No Added Sugar – Syn Free
I love Capri Sun, Kate’s not a fan, but I love the stuff.
Capri Sun No Added Sugar Orange is now available to accompany the two other no added sugar varieties (Tropical and Blackcurrant).
Like the others, they come in multipacks of 10x200ml pouches, and they’re only 10 calories a pouch.
They are on the SW app as Syn Free!
You can get them from all the major supermarkets, and other retailers too.
Lucozade Original Zero – Syn Free
This caused quite a buzz when we first mentioned it in one of our shopping articles a few weeks ago.
Now it’s finally here!
You can pick it up from Morrisons or Sainsbury’s where it’s currently on offer at £1 for a 1l bottle.
Hopefully more stores will be stocking it soon.
Asda High In Protein Chilled Ready Meals
You may remember a couple of months ago there was talk of Asda expanding their High in Protein range to include chilled meals?
Sadly, a lot of the range have quite a high Syn value (like the Asda High in Protein, Chicken Tagine & Cauliflower Couscous for 9.5 Syns!) but there are some that aren’t too bad and won’t break the Syn bank.
Here’s a couple of the lower Syn options;
Asda High in Protein Beetroot, Feta & Lentil Risotto
This won’t cost you too many Syns, despite it containing Feta and Pumpkin Seeds. They’re also on the database for 3.5 Syns for the whole 400g pack
Asda High in Protein, Lamb & Spinach Cassoulet
This is a hearty casserole of diced lamb, cannelloni beans, black turtle beans, butter beans, carrots and spinach.
It’s already on the SW database at 1.5 Syns for the pack.
While we’re talking about Asda, there are a few other new chilled ready meals in store, but following the recent issues with Syn values of certain products we’re not going to include them until SW have confirmed Syn values.
M&S Spirit of Summer Cooked Meats
Yet more healthier options from M&S! This time it’s cooked meats. All perfect for a quick lunch, or picnics!
Sicilian Style Gremolata Mini Chicken Fillets
These British mini chicken breast fillets are marinated in a Sicilian Lemon, Parsley and Garlic marinade, and they are only 0.5 Syns for the whole 120g pack.
They currently on the 3 for £7 offer at M&S.
Roasted Ham with Pomegranate Molasses
This cured cooked roast ham with a pomegranate glaze works out Syn Free using the online calculator, and we can honestly say it’s really rather tasty!
There are other varieties, such as Smoked Chicken with Paprika & Red Pepper and the Roasted Pork Loin with Mango and Lemon Marinade…
Syns vary when put through the calculator, so please check online.
M&S Spirit of Summer BBQ Range
I don’t think we’ve ever featured so much M&S stuff than this week! Their ever expanding BBQ range is sooo Slimming World friendly!
M&S Spirit of Summer BBQ Grill Tuna Skewers
We love fish on the BBQ, so we think these Tuna Skewers with a zesty Harissa marinade are fab!
The marinade is quite mild, but they do have a little bit of a kick, without going too overboard. They’re a great addition to the BBQ if you fancy something a bit different.
They are Syn free when you run them through the calculator, but as always, this may or may not change if and when SW give them an official Syn value.
Lemon & Herb Salmon Flatties
These Scottish Lochmuir Salmon Fillets are marinated in lemon, parsley, garlic and black pepper.
They’re Syn Free when using the online calculator and take les than 10 minutes to cook, on the BBQ, under the grill or in the oven.
Skinny Beef Shish Kebabs
For something a bit different to the usual burgers why not try these Skinny Beef Shish Kebabs.
They are made from lean minced British beef with onions, garlic, chilli and a sachet of tomato dressing.
Using the online calculator they come out Syn Free. Again, this is not an official Syn value, it was calculated using the SW Syns calculator so it could very well change in the future.
These are chicken drumstick kebabs marinated in a Turkish Style Shawarma rub.
At 4.5 per pack these work out a little higher in Syns (using the calculator), but having said that you do get 2 pieces of chicken drumstick on each skewer so there should be plenty for 3 or 4 people if you’re serving other items off the BBQ.
Louisiana BBQ Chicken Flatties
These are thin slices of chicken breast coated in a Smokehouse inspired Tangy BBQ Sauce.
There are on the app at half a Syn each. You’ll get enough for 4 from the one pack.
All of the Spirit of Summer BBQ Grill range is available on the 3 for £10 offer.
If you have a bit of a sweet tooth then these may be right up your street!
Rowntrees minis are the same great products as the originals. They’re just a mini version, and will cost you 2.5 Syns for a 15g bag.
You can get Mini Randoms or Mini Jelly Tots, and they come in 120g packs which contain 8x15g bags. These are available from Asda, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Waitrose, Poundland, Poundstretcher and B&M for around £1 a bag.
There’s also a mixed 300g pack containing 20x15g bags of both varieties for around £2 a pack.
M&S Summer Drinks
I have to say, we’ve been quite impressed by the number of Slimming World friendly / healthier options from M&S recently.
Along with all the Low Syn / Syn Free food items they have on offer there’s also quite a selection of drinks available.
Here’s a few that we thought might be nice now the Summer is on the way;
M&S Sangria Inspired Spritzer
This is a non alcoholic drink with blood orange and grape, and works out at 0.5 Syns for 100ml.
With Syns that low you could even afford to add a little of whatever alcohol you like, but don’t forget to add any extra Syns!
We think this may become quite popular this Summer, you’d better be quick.
M&S Passion Fruit Sparking Soda
Sparkling Soda This intensely refreshing drink made with zingy passion fruit juice and sparkling water comes up as Syn Free.
We tried this and thought it was lovely, perfect for a cool summer drink in the garden.
It comes out as Syn Free using the online calculator, but as always keep an eye out for any differences if and when SW add it to the database.
M&S Coffee Spritzer
Another non alcoholic spritzer, this time it’s made with aromatic coffee and spring water.
We’re not sure on the Syn values for this one as it seems it may be slightly over the calorie count to make it Syn Free, so we’re waiting for SW to confirm the Syns.
Tesco Milkshakes Now HEA
These aren’t new products, but they are new recipes, which means they are now an HEA option!
You can now have 175ml of the Banana flavour and 200ml of the Strawberry. How good is that?
Oppo Colombian Chocolate with Hazelnut
You may remember Oppo caused a bit of a stir last year with their Ice cream range coming in at only 4 Syns for 100ml.
Well, now we have a new addition to the range – Colombian Chocolate with Hazelnut.
According to Oppo this flavour is distinguished by its fruity and flowery aroma, rich flavour, and nutty undertones.
They source their Cacao Fino de Aroma directly from the plantations of Colombia making it one of the highest quality cacao certifications in the world.
Obviously, this is going to be a little higher Syn-wise, but at 4.5 Syns for 100ml (approx 2 scoops) it’s still pretty good for such a high quality, great tasting ice cream.
You can get the new Oppo Colombian Chocolate with Hazelnut Ice Cream from Ocado, and there’s a store finder on the Oppo website to find out who else is selling Oppo near you.
While we’re on the subject of Ice Cream, you’ll notice that the Syn values are calculated using 100ml measurements, which can sometimes make measuring out the correct quantities a little difficult.
Oppo have now brought out smaller 100ml pots which makes keeping track of those Syns a little bit easier…just 4 Syns for 1 tub.
The new Colombian Chocolate with Hazelnut flavour doesn’t seem to be available in the smaller tubs yet, but the Madagascan Vanilla, Mint Chocolate Swirl and Salted Caramel ones are. You can grab them from Ocado for around £2 a tub.
