Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 557,500 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the Shopping Essentials as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
Every week we search supermarkets to bring you a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
If you’re a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials round up, you’ll know that we always try to include a range of Free Foods, some Speed Foods and a few exciting ways to use your Syns allowance, too!
Slimming World always recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Lidl Pick of the Week
Our first Speed food selection this week comes from Lidl. Many of the supermarkets had vegetables on offer over the Easter weekend, but some have gone back to higher prices now.
Fortunately, stores such as Lidl and Aldi have weekly offers on fruit and vegetables, so we’ll always have some ideas for you!
This week in Lidl, they have got a great range of Speed Foods.
- Chestnut Mushrooms – Syn Free Garlic and Mushroom Risotto
- Baby Sweetcorn – Syn Free Chicken and Mushroom Fakeaway
- Pink Grapefruit – delicious for breakfast or added to a salad
- Aubergine – Syn Free Moussaka
It’s always worth a look to see what’s on offer, as the fruit and vegetables are pretty versatile and ideal for Slimming World.
These are all Speed Foods, so you can eat them to your heart’s content!
Prices vary, but at no more than 69p a pack, they’re great value for money.
Tesco Diced Tomatoes
I have to confess, I use a lot of tinned tomatoes in my cooking. In fact, I occasionally have to knock on my neighbour’s door to borrow a can if I’ve run out.
Tomatoes are a part of many recipes when you’re on the Slimming World plan.
They’re a really versatile Speed Food too, so no need to limit the amount you have.
This would be perfect for so many of the meals on our website! How about trying them in our Syn Free Mexican Chilli Beef?
Tesco now sell this pack of frozen diced tomatoes in their freezer section. Tomatoes that have been chopped and frozen within hours to capture the peak of freshness.
Simply remove what you want to use and return the rest to the freezer. Easy peasy!
Grower’s Harvest Mix Vegetable Steamer
We love frozen vegetables. They’re really handy to keep in the freezer so that you can just grab what you need, when you need it.
There’s no fuss, the preparation has been done for you, so there’s no mess either! The best part is, there’s no waste. No risk of vegetables going off or past their best.
These Grower’s Harvest Mixed Vegetable Steam Bags contain a mix of carrots, garden peas and sweetcorn.
Perfect to serve as a side dish with a meal, they cook in the microwave in just 4 minutes.
Onken 0% Fat Natural Biopot Yogurt
We featured some new Onken Light and Fruity in last week’s Shopping Essentials round up and they had a lot of interest.
This week we have Onken 0% Fat Natural Biopot Yogurt. It’s a huge 1 Kg pot of mild, fresh and creamy natural bio yogurt.
Bio yogurt is naturally creamier, so this shouldn’t be as acidic as normal natural yogurt. It’s great for sweet and savoury dishes, such as our impressive Syn Free Chicken Kebab, as well as Overnight oats and Baked oats.
This Onken 0% Fat Natural Biopot Yogurt costs £2.10 for a 1 kilogram tub from Asda. It’s free according to the Syns Calculator.
Tesco Sweet Potato Chunks
Usually, when we spy out a frozen potato product, we’re disappointed to discover that they contain oil, and not free.
We were delighted to spot these Sweet Potato Chunks in the freezer aisle at Tesco this week.
The even better news is that they have no oil, and they’re free on the Syns Online app! Hooray!!
These would be so versatile for use in Syn Free Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup or stew. You can also roast them, add them to a curry, or use them in our Syn Free Sweet Potato Pakoras.
New Muller flavours
One of our moderators spotted these last weekend, just a day too late for inclusion in last week’s Shopping Essentials list!
Muller have introduced 2 new Tropical inspired flavours of Muller Light Yogurts, available in a six pack from Iceland.
The new flavours are Pineapple & Dragonfruit, and Blood Orange & Passionfruit, and both sound delicious! They be great in Overnight oats, or just served with fresh fruit for an anytime snack!
Aldi High Protein Super Spoon Greek Yogurt Ice Cream
Our superstar moderators are always on the case looking out for new products. This one looks really exciting!
Aldi have launched a new High Protein Greek Yogurt Ice Cream, flavoured with Superfruits, Blueberry, Blackberry, Blackcurrant and Cranberry.
There’s another new flavour listed on Syns Online too, Pomegranate, Raspberry, Goji Berry and Redcurrant. Both flavours are 7.5 Syns on the Slimming World database
It’s sold in a pack of 4 x 105g pots in Aldi and costs £3.59.
Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles Push Up Lollies
Everybody is familiar with Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles. They’re a childhood favourite that we’ve all grown up with.
These Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles Push Up Lollies come in 4 delicious flavours;
- Assorted fruit water ice push ups – 3.5 Syns each
- Strawberry water ice push up – 3 Syns each
- Tropical fruit water ice push up – 3.5 Syns each
- Blackcurrant water ice push up – 3.5 Syns each
Magnum Mini Classic & Mint Ice Cream
If you follow our Shopping Essentials guide each week, you’ll know that we often feature ice-cream choices.
Magnum has always been associated with luxury ice cream. There’s something about cracking through that thick chocolate layer and finding the ice cream beneath.
This is a mixed pack of 6 x 55ml Mini Magnum Ice Creams, 3 in Classic Vanilla flavour and 3 in Mint flavour.
They’re currently on offer, costing £2.50 at the moment, saving £1.15 on the usual price of £3.65.
These Magnum Minis work out at 7 Syns each on the Syns Calculator.
Nestle Fab Minis
Next up, we have some more ice lollies for you (can you tell summer is fast approaching?)
Nestle lollies have been around for an absolute age, and now we have some new Nestle Fab Mini flavours.
These contain real fruit, with no artificial flavours or preservatives, and at only 50 calories a lolly they work out at only 2.5 Syns each.
The two new flavours are Tropical, which are mixed tropical fruit and vanilla flavour ice lollies with a chocolate flavour coating and sugar strands, and Strawberry, which are strawberry and vanilla flavour ice lollies with a chocolate flavour coating and sugar strands.
They come in boxes of 12 x 32ml lollies, and they are available from Tesco and Waitrose for £2.25 a box.
Nestlé have unveiled the first chocolate using Nestlé’s new structured sugar to reduce sugar content by 30% when compared to similar bars.
They are using an innovative sugar reduction technique, using only natural ingredients. It works by using an aerated, porous sugar that dissolves more quickly in the mouth. This allows you to taste the same sweetness as usual, but while eating less sugar.
According to the Nestlé website each bar is white chocolate with crispy oat cereal a creamy centre.
They are 105 calories for two mini bars, which means that they work out at 5 Syns per two using the online calculator.
They’ve been spotted in Morrisons, priced at £1.50 per box, but will no doubt be available from most supermarkets in the very near future as stock is rolled out across the country.
Twinings Superblends Detox
We’ve featured a number of flavoured teas in our Shopping Essentials lists over the past months and this week we have some more.
Twinings Superblends Detox is a lemon flavoured infusion with burdock root, fennel, ginger and added Selenium.
If you’re not sure what Selenium is, it contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
The fennel in this blend has a slight sweetness which works well with the smooth lemon flavour. The ginger is carefully added in the mix so it is gentle and warming, but not overpowering.
They are also naturally caffeine free and Syn Free!
You can pick these up a pack of 20 bags from Tesco, and they are currently half price at £1.34 a pack.
Twinings Superblends Energise
Still with teas, we have this Twinings Superblends Energise blend.
It’s a Mandarin & Apple flavoured Green Tea with Guarana and added Vitamin B6.
Again, they’re available from Tesco in packs of 20 bags, and they are also currently half price at £1.34 a pack.
This green tea has a clean and fresh taste, with subtle citrusy flavours from the mandarin with added Guarana and Vitamin B6 to give that energy boost.
As with pretty much all flavoured teas they are Syn Free.
Appletiser 150ml Can
For those that aren’t aware (I can’t imagine there are many!), Appletiser is made with gently sparkling 100% apple juice.
It’s been around for ages, from 750ml bottles to 250ml cans, but now we have a new handy 150ml size can to add to the range.
Appletiser is suitable for vegetarians/vegans, it’s gluten free and this 150ml can counts as 1 of your 5 a day!
Sadly, it’s not Syn Free!
Appletiser is on the Slimming World database at 6 Syns for 250ml, so this will cost you around 3.5 Syns for the 150ml can.
You can pick this up from Tesco for £0.40 a can.
Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection Mini Cups Ice Cream 4x100ml
We mentioned Haagen-Dazs Caramel Collection Mini Cups a couple of weeks ago in our Shopping Essentials article.
Once again, we’ve decided to push the boat out as far as Syns are concerned and dive into some very indulgent Haagen-Dazs ice creams.
According to the Syns calculator they vary between 11 and 12 Syns per pot, but as mentioned, these are an indulgence, so the Syn values will be higher. Having said that, if you save your Syns, you can enjoy these decadent flavours guilt free!
The box contains 4 x 100ml pots of vanilla ice cream. There are 4 different flavours;
Vanilla, Vanilla and Macadamia Nut Brittle, Vanilla and Pralines and Cream and Vanilla and Cookies and Cream
They are available from Morrisons and Sainsbury’s for around £4.00 a box, but Asda currently have them on Rollback for £2.50.
Shopping Essentials Top Pick
Our Shopping Essentials Top Pick is a featured highlight of the week! This week, we’ve chosen Morrisons Wonky Veg Box.
