Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 615,000 members it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Slimming World Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), but you can join up using the link below for the latest news and discussions on brand new Slimming World-friendly products.

We search the supermarkets and food websites each week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan. If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list.
Lidl Pick of the Week
Speed foods are an important part of the Slimming World plan, so we always look for some offers when we can! We often cover seasonal vegetables and fruits, or new salad selections and fruit pot combinations.
We regularly highlight great deals from stores such as Aldi and Lidl, who have weekly promotions on fresh produce, such as fruit and vegetables.
This week we’re featuring the Pick of the Week deal from Lidl, which has a selection of Speed foods;
- Mushrooms – delicious in our Low Syn Beef Stroganoff
- Spinach – perfect for salads and adding speed to meals
- Blueberries – ideal in our Syn Free Lemon & Blueberry Waffles
- Radishes – super in salads, or sliced in balsamic vinegar
Prices range from 29p to 99p per pack, and all prices are valid until 13.06.18
Tesco Pink Coleslaw
Summer, salads, picnics and barbecues all go together pretty well. When the weather warms up, eating outdoors is a great way to enjoy the food and the sunshine, but it doesn’t mean we have to loosen the reigns on our Slimming World journey.
Somebody posted about this Pink Coleslaw from Tesco in our Facebook group earlier this week so I took a closer look!
The coleslaw is made from red cabbage, beetroot and onion in a mayonnaise dressing. It works out at 4.5 Syns per 70g portion using the Syns Calculator.
Tesco Beetroot Tzatziki Dip
Beetroot is a versatile vegetable which can be used in so many different ways. We have several recipes that use beetroot on the Pinch of Nom website, including our amazing Syn Free Roasted Garlic and Beetroot Soup.
We have our own Syn Free Beetroot & Mint Hummus which is absolutely gorgeous and well worth making.
Morrisons Market St Sweet Chilli Turkey Burgers
If you’ve been following the Shopping Essentials feature over the last few weeks, you’ll have spotted plenty of new products that are good for summer dining, whilst helping you to stay in control of your Syns.
Morrisons Market St range has expanded to include these Sweet Chilli Turkey Burgers. They are low in Syns and Gluten Free too.
Using the Syns calculator they come out at 1.5 Syns each, using turkey as the free food allowance, so they’re great for staying perfectly on plan.
We have a recipe for some tasty Syn Free Turkey Tikka Burgers on the website if you fancy making your own.
Morrisons Market St Sweet Chilli Turkey Burgers cost £3.00 for a pack of 4 burgers.
Tesco Minted Lamb Kebabs
In last week’s Shopping Essentials round up, we brought you Asda Butcher’s Selection Minted Lamb Kebabs. Well, not to be outdone, Tesco now have a virtually identical version, too!
The Tesco Minted Lamb Kebabs have the same Syn value at 2 Syns per skewer on the Slimming World database.
Our Syn Free Potato Salad would make a great accompaniment to go with these, too.
ASDA Extra Special Light & Lean Cumberland Pork Sausages
The quest to find a decent sausage that’s low in Syns is never ending! Some brands are more popular, others less so, but it’s not easy to find a brand that ticks all the boxes for everyone.
Asda have these new Extra Special Light and Lean Cumberland Pork Sausages to try. They’re less than 3% fat per sausage, Gluten Free, with no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat.
You could use these to make our Low Syn Spicy Sausage Pasta for a quick and easy meal.
Coming in at 0.5 Syns per sausage, Slimming World have already added them to the Syns Online database. They come in a pack of 6 sausages and cost £2.75 in Asda.
We usually try to include some vegetarian alternatives on the Shopping Essentials list and this week is no exception. First up is this Quorn Jambalaya.
A Jambalaya is a Louisiana-origin dish, with influences from Spanish and French cuisine. It usually consists of meat and smoked sausage mixed with vegetables and rice.
This recipe uses Quorn protein pieces in a smoky paprika and tomato sauce with rice, peppers & sweetcorn. The dish is low in saturated fat and Vegetarian Society Approved.
This 400g pack of Quorn Jambalaya costs £2.79 from Asda. It’s 2.5 Syns on the Slimming World database.
Quorn Sweet Chilli Sausages
Quorn is a vegetarian protein source and the sausages have been a regular choice for vegetarians for years.
These Sweet Chilli sausages are new to the range of Quorn products. A meat free, savoury flavoured sausage with a sweet chilli seasoning. They’re just 1 Syn each on the Syns Online database.
You can cook these and serve them chopped up with a vegetable stir fry and our delicious Syn Free Sweet Chilli sauce.
Quorn Sweet Chilli sausages come in a pack of 4 and cost £2.50 in Asda.
Heck The Beet Goes On Sausages
A popular choice amongst the Slimming World crowd, Heck is well known for it’s selection of low Syn sausages. They have a great range of flavours to choose from.
Heck have launched a new vegetarian sausage this week which is exclusive to Waitrose. They are made from beetroot, red onions, seeds and horseradish and would be perfect served with our Syn Free Salt & Pepper chips.
The Beet Goes On Sausages are suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians and they’re Dairy and Gluten Free too!
As I mentioned previously, they’re exclusive to Waitrose and cost £3.00 per pack. The sausages work out as 2 Syns each using the Syns Calculator.
Tesco Diet Spaghetti Bolognese
We don’t feature ready meals very often on the Shopping Essentials list, and this one hasn’t been chosen for its low Syn credentials at all.
This can be seen as a cautionary tale to illustrate why it’s so much better to cook your own meals when you can. Although described as ‘diet’, this spaghetti bolognese meal still comes in at 8 Syns per pack using the Syns calculator. However, if you’re completely pushed for time and have some left to use, 8 Syns for a ready meal may not seem so bad.
Our Syn Free Spaghetti Bolognese takes less than an hour to make and can be batch cooked and frozen to make meal prep quick and easy.
ASDA Thai Curry Chicken Mini Fillets
Someone shared these Thai Curry Chicken mini fillets in the Facebook group this week so we thought we’d highlight them here too!
Described as rich and fragrant coconut chicken, it’s cooked chicken breast mini fillets in a Thai curry marinade. There are no artificial colours or flavours and they can be eaten hot or cold.
If you love Thai flavours, you should really try our Syn Free Thai Green Curry – it’s so good!
A 200g pack of Thai curry chicken mini fillets costs £2.50 in Asda and they’re listed as free on Syns Online.
ASDA Mexican Fajita Chicken Breast Slices
I’ve often mentioned in our weekly Shopping Essentials guide that one of my go-to choices if I’m out and about is a pack of cold meat and a punnet of salad or veg to munch on.
It’s a great way to stay on plan without having to use valuable Syns on a shop-bought sandwich.
Asda have some new sliced cooked meats to choose from, including these cooked chicken breast slices in a Mexican fajita marinade. This would be so tasty with a plate of salad and some steamed Jersey Royals for a quick dinner option, too!
It costs £2.50 for a 200g pack and it’s Free on Syns Online.
ASDA Garlic & Herb Chicken Breast Slices
There are alternative flavour options if you’re not keen on Mexican spices. How about these Asda Garlic and Herb Chicken Breast Slices?
I suggested above that these would make a great grab and go option with a punnet of tomatoes or salad for a quick lunch option. I often do this if I’ve forgotten to bring lunch out with me.
This pack of cooked chicken breast slices in a garlic and herb marinade can be enjoyed hot or cold, so you could get inventive with salads or your HEB choice or even add it to your cooking.
A 200g pack costs £2.50 from Asda and it’s Free on the Syns Online database.
Itsu Rice Noodles
We often have people asking in our Facebook group about quick options for hot food with no cooking facilities. If you are stuck at work with only a kettle, then these might offer a low Syn solution.
Itsu make a range of snack type foods with an Oriental influence. In a previous Shopping List back in February we featured their Prawn Snackers, which are mild wasabi prawn crackers.
These Rice Noodle pots are Gluten Free, as well as being low in fat and sugar.
They’re available in 4 varieties and the Syns vary slightly;
- Satay Rice Noodles – 2.5 Syns
- Chilli Miso Rice Noodles – 2 Syns
- Katsu Noodle – 2 Syns
- Pho Rice Noodles – 1.5 Syns
Muller Plain Corner Raspberry And Pomegranate Yogurt
Muller yogurts tend to dominate the chiller cabinets at the supermarket, and there’s a huge selection to choose from.
Plain Corner Raspberry & Pomegranate consists of Natural Greek style yogurt, with a raspberry and pomegranate compote on the side. I always tended to avoid the split-pot type yogurts as the compote (or other treats) can be pretty high in Syns.
These yogurts are a recent addition to the range and show on the Slimming World website at 3.5 Syns each. They’re suitable for vegetarians, unlike some of the Muller range.
Tesco 0% fat Natural Yogurt
There are always new yogurts arriving in the chilled section at the supermarket, but it’s often not easy to stand mid-aisle with your phone in hand, trying to check Syn values on the app!
We published Our Guide to Syn Free Yogurts a couple of weeks ago. It’s full of advice about the best syn-free yogurts. As we know, fat free doesn’t always mean Syn free, as yogurts can have added sugars, which will cause the Syn value to be higher.
This Tesco 0% Fat Natural Yogurt is made from 100% British Milk and is suitable for vegetarians. It costs 50p for a 200g pot and is Free on the Syns Online database. You can also find it here, on the Tesco website.
Light & Free Skyr Icelandic Style Yogurt Strawberry Stride
In a previous shopping article back in February, we featured the Blueberry and Raspberry varieties and now there’s a Strawberry flavour to add to the list.
This Light & Free Icelandic-style, high protein yogurt has 0% added fat or sugar and contains no gelatine, so it’s suitable for vegetarians too!
It hasn’t been added to the database yet, but works out Free using the Syns Calculator, which is in line with the other two flavours.
It’s also free from artificial sweeteners, using only naturally occurring Stevia extract to sweeten instead. This should appeal to those who don’t get on with the artificial sweeteners used in some fat free yogurts.
Light and Free Skyr Strawberry Slide yogurt costs 95p per pot and is currently on a multi-buy offer of 4 for £3.00 with all other flavours in Asda.
