Slimming World recommend having 1/3 Speed Food with every meal where appropriate as part of the Extra Easy plan.
If you’re not sure whether your fruit and vegetable choices are Speed Foods, you can check our Speed Foods list. Items listed in blue are linked to a recipe, too. Just click on the word to take you there.
We check the supermarkets and food websites every week to find a selection of new products and special offers to help you stay on plan with Slimming World.
Aldi Super 6
We try to find a great selection of Speed foods every week for the Slimming World Shopping Essentials guide.
It’s recommended that we include 1/3 Speed foods on our plates when sensible to do so when following the food optimising plan.
This week, the Super 6 selection from Aldi are all Speed foods, so here they are!

- Large Flat Mushrooms – great for Syn Free Ham & Mushroom Pizza Calzone
- Cauliflower – why not make your own cauliflower rice? Details here
- Mini Easy Peelers – for snacking on the go!
- Unwaxed Lemons – try this Syn Free Lemon & Garlic Chicken traybake
- Aubergines – excellent for our Syn Free Moussaka
Prices range from 49p to 59p a pack, available from Aldi from Thurs 8th Nov, while stock last.
M & S High Protein Chipotle Chicken
I popped into the new M & S food hall this week and found lots of new goodies to try. First on the list is this High Protein Chipotle Chicken meal pot. It would be perfect for lunch at work if you didn’t have time to prepare lunch at home.
It’s a high protein combination of chicken with chickpeas, rice, fresh spinach, and smoky tomato salsa sauce. Sounds really tasty, doesn’t it?
We’ve had to use the Syns estimator on the Slimming World website to calculate the Syns in this. It’s coming out at 6 Syns for the pot, so well within your daily allowance. It costs £2.75 and is available in Marks and Spencer now.
M & S High Protein Basil Chicken with a Pea & Broad Bean Salad
Are you anything like me? I’ll be out shopping and realise that my tum is rumbling because it’s past lunchtime. Rather than blowing my entire Syns tally for the day, I try to find something that’s as on plan as I can.
Finding something that’s high in protein is a great idea, as the protein will keep you feeling fuller for longer. I often pick up the Hot Smoked Lochmuir Salmon and Potato Salad, as that’s only 3 Syns per pack, yet feels really indulgent.
Now there’s another option, with this High Protein Basil Chicken with a Pea and Broad Bean Salad. It comes with a Pesto dressing and the whole pack is listed at 4 Syns on the Slimming World database. This Basil Chicken Salad costs £4.00.
M & S Italian Beef Ragu
Here’s another quick option for lunch at work, quick and easy to sling into a microwave, taking just 2 and a half minutes in a 750w microwave oven. Ideal when there’s a queue in the staffroom!
This is a classic mix of pasta, with a minced beef, tomato and chianti red wine ragu and smoked bacon. I really fancy this, might have to give it a try soon!
This is listed on Syns Online at 7.5 Syns, leaving you enough Syns to play with for the rest of the day, too. It costs £2.75 and is new in Marks & Spencer food hall now.
M & S Slow Cooked Teriyaki Beef
I got very excited when I spotted this in my local Marks and Spencer on Tuesday. It looks soooo good. It’s part of a new range of slow cooked meat products which all look very appealing.
This boneless beef joint has been slow cooked for tenderness. It comes in a mouthwatering teriyaki sauce. If you love the flavour of teriyaki, you need to try our Syn Free Chicken Teriyaki Kebabs. Why wait until summer? Delicious!
M & S Slow Cooked Teriyaki Beef works out free per half pack when using the Syns Estimator on the Slimming World website. It’s made using British Beef and is Gluten Free. It’s also suitable for freezing. It costs £6.00 for this 2 serving pack.
M & S Lamb Tagine
I love lamb, but it’s one of those meats that I forget about, so don’t tend to buy it very often. It’s usually fairly expensive too, so something of an indulgence or treat, rather than a midweek quick supper!
When I do remember to buy lamb, I really enjoy this traditional Syn Free Lamb Scouse recipe. It’s a really hearty, satisfying stew that is also dead easy to make, so it’s a winner for me every time!
This M & S Lamb Tagine is made of slow cooked tender chunks of lamb shoulder and leg meat, rubbed with a blend of aromatic spices in a Moroccan style sauce with apricots. I had this on Tuesday night and can confirm that it is very, very nice!
This is working out as Syn Free for half a pack when the nutritional information is put through the Syns Estimator. It’s Gluten Free, too. The pack serves 2 and costs £6.00.
M & S Slow Cooked Peppered Beef
The slow cookers in the Marks and Spencer development kitchens have clearly been on overtime with this range of new products. I’m not complaining, mind you!
You can usually rest assured that because it’s from M & S, you won’t be disappointed.
Sitting alongside the two products I’ve already talked about above is this Slow Cooked Peppered Beef Joint.
It’s a boneless, slow cooked beef joint with a rich peppercorn jus. Made from selected cuts of British Beef which have been slow cooked for tenderness.
If you love a pepper sauce with your beef, make sure you give our Syn Free Creamy Pepper Sauce a try. It gets rave reviews from everyone who makes it!
Just as I’ve mentioned with the other slow cooked products listed here, this Slow Cooked Peppered Beef is another Gluten Free product.
It’s coming out as free per half pack when calculated using the Syns Estimator on the Slimming World website.
This is priced at £6.00 for a 2 serving pack, available from M & S stores.
M & S Cumberland Pork Chipolatas
As you’ll probably know, the subject of sausages comes up quite often when you’re following Slimming World.
The quest to find a decent-tasting, low Syn sausage seems endless, but often comes down to personal tastes.
We featured the original M & S Skinny Sausages in a Shopping Essentials article in June 2017, around the time that a certain brand was making headlines. Now M & S have added these Cumberland Pork Chipolatas to their range.
These sausages would be great in our Low Syn Sausage Hash recipe. They’re listed on the Syns Online database at 0.5 Syns per sausage, which isn’t bad at all!
They cost £3.20 for a pack of 12 chipolata sausages.
M & S Coconut & Lime Chicken Escalopes
The first thing that appealed to me when I saw these chicken escalopes was the flavour. It immediately suggests a Caribbean kind of vibe to me!
The product description reads, ‘Chicken breast escalopes in a coconut, lemongrass and lime marinade.
The second thing I noticed was the ‘pan fry in 10 mins’ label on the front of the pack. In the time it takes to boil some basmati rice to serve with these, they’ll be ready.
You can’t beat a quick to cook product like this after a long day. Maximum flavour with minimum effort!
If you have the time to make a bit more effort, these would be amazing with our Syn Free Pineapple Salsa and 1 Syn Rice & Peas. The escalopes are 0.5 Syns each on the Slimming World app. A pack of 4 chicken pieces costs £3.50.
Aldi Mini Chicken Fillets
I’m always popping into my local Aldi for a mooch around, and I regularly top up my weekly shop here too. When you have 2 teenagers constantly raiding the fridge, you need to keep stocked up!
Aldi do a really good range of cold meat options. They’re great for sandwiches and salads. Flavoured mini chicken fillets are always popular, but it’s always worth checking the Syn values on these products.
Often the marinades used will contain oil or sugar, which will make a difference to the Syn values.
Having said that, cold meats that do have a Syn value are not too high, so they won’t do significant damage to your Syns allowance for the day.
Aldi have launched 2 new flavours of mini chicken fillets;
- Tandoori Style – 1.5 Syns per pack
- Sweet Chilli – 1.5 Syns per pack (both listed on SW app)
These flavoured mini chicken fillets cost £1.89 for a 170g pack in Aldi Stores.
Aldi Chicken Slices
While I’m on the subject of Aldi and cold meats, I thought it was worth highlighting these chicken products, too.
If you’re bored of the same old ham or plain chicken to put on your plate or add to a salad, these could be useful.
I haven’t seen the curried coconut and lime slices previously, and I think the Mexican style chicken slices are new, too.
Both flavours can be enjoyed hot or cold, so you could easily add some variety to your lunch or dinner with them.
- Curried Coconut & Lime – Free
- Mexican Style – 0.5 Syns per pack (both values from Syns Online)
Both flavours come in a 180g pack and cost £1.99 from Aldi.
Morrisons Tomato, Red Pepper & Lentil Soup
Soup season is well and truly upon us. It’s the perfect time of year, and we know from posts to our Facebook group that lots of you are getting stuck in with hand held blenders or soup makers and trying lots of fabulous recipes.
My favourite at the moment is this Syn Free Carrot & Butter Bean Soup. It’s so easy to make, but really filling and super tasty.
Ready made soups often have a pretty hefty Syn value, so I usually give them a wide berth when I’m out shopping.
I did spot this new fresh soup in Morrisons and thought I’d check it out, as the traffic light nutritional indicators were green, which is usually a good sign.
This Morrisons Tomato, Red Pepper & Lentil Soup is not listed on the database, but it comes out at 5 Syns per 300g serving (half a pot) using the Syns Estimator. It costs £1.25 for 600g (2 servings) from Morrisons.
The Meatless Farm Co Meat Free Burgers/Mince
In recent weeks we’ve featured lots of exciting new vegetarian and vegan products in our Shopping Essentials lists.
We’ve seen lots of press coverage about the growing numbers of people opting for vegetarian choices, so it’s important to include some here too.
Gone are the days when the only vegetarian option was a boring nut roast. (Although I have had a couple of very tasty nut roasts over the years!) I will often choose a vegetarian option from the menu if eating out these days, as the dishes look so tempting!
These Meatless Farm Co Meat Free Burgers are listed on Syns Online at 3.5 Syns each. You can find them in Sainsbury’s, priced at £2.00 for a pack of 2 burgers. They are Gluten Free and suitable for Vegans, too.
The same company also makes meat free mince, which costs £2.50 per 400g pack.
It’s made with Soya, Pea and Rice proteins, it’s Gluten Free and listed on Syns Online at 3 Syns per 100g.
This could be used to make any of our recipes that use mince. Why not try it in our Syn Free Cajun Dirty Rice for a great vegetarian dish. Just switch the mince, and use a bacon substitute and veggie stock pot.
Morrisons Steam & Serve Rice
One of my family’s favourites is our yummy Syn Free Mexican Rice, which is really tasty!
If you’re struggling for time and need a quick and easy rice choice, how about these frozen rice sachets from Morrisons.
There are two flavours, Mexican Rice, or White and Wild Rice with Mixed Vegetables.
The Mexican Rice is listed as 1.5 Syns per 150g sachet and the White and Wild Rice with Mixed Vegetables a 1 Syn per 150g sachet. Both can be found on the Syns Online database.
The White/Wild Rice with Mixed Veg costs £1.75 for a pack of 4 sachets, the Mexican Rice is on offer at 75p for a 4 pack in Morrisons.
Genius Gluten Free Plain White Wraps
If you’re a regular user of our Facebook group, or the website, you’ll know that we’ve come up with some fantastic uses for the humble wrap! They’re much more than just a wrap to be eaten for lunch.
We’ve made so many recipes, from Syn Free Beef & Onion Pasties, to Syn Free Ham & Mushroom Calzone Pizza, to our legendary Syn Free Enchilada Lasagne! If you haven’t tried any of these yet, I urge you to give them a try!
Only a very limited range of wraps can be counted as your Healthy Extra B choice, so I was delighted to see that these Genius Gluten Free White Wraps have now been added to the database as an HEB.
The added bonus is that these are only 3.5 Syns each if you’re not counting them as a Healthy Extra. At the moment they are exclusive to Asda, but this may change. As with all GF products, they are slightly more expensive, priced at £2.49 for 4 wraps.
Robinsons Raspberry, Rhubarb & Orange Blossom Cordial
As we all know, it’s really important to stay hydrated when you’re following the Slimming World plan. For many people, that means drinking plenty of water through the day, but it doesn’t just have to be water.
For some, the taste of water is pretty unpalatable, whether it’s tap water or bottled water. Drinking no added sugar squash is a great way to make sure you’re drinking plenty, but sometimes you just fancy something a bit out of the ordinary.
This Robinsons Raspberry, Rhubarb and Orange Blossom Cordial tastes absolutely gorgeous, and if you don’t mind using Syns for a refreshing drink then these are a great choice.
Listed on the Slimming World app as 2 Syns for a 250ml serving, when diluted as instructed, 1 part cordial to 6 parts water, this costs £2.27 for a 500ml bottle in Morrisons.
Kenco Barista Editions Iced Latte Coconut
We have featured several drinks from the Kenco Barista Range in recent Shopping Essentials articles. If you can’t get out to a high street coffee shop, they are a lovely way to have a little treat at home, Barista-style.
This latest addition is a Coconut Iced Latte. If you love all things coconutty, this could be right up your alley! They are listed on the Slimming World database at 4 Syns per sachet. You’ll find them in Morrisons, where they cost £1.50 for a box of 8 sachets.
Fox’s Party Milkshakes Biscuits
Hands up if you remember iced party ring biscuits! They’ve been around for years, and were always a big favourite at birthday parties, even when I was growing up! More recently, you’ve been able to buy these in multi bag snack packs, as well as the full size packs.
I spotted these Party Milkshakes biscuits in Tesco earlier this week, and they look just as good as the original party rings. Strawberry and Banana Milkshake flavour Iced Biscuits.
They come in a multi pack of 5 x 18g bags, which work out at 4 Syns per bag using the Syns Estimator on the website. They’re currently on a half price offer in Tesco, so you only pay 75p. You can find them here, on the Tesco website.

Everything written here about the products is my own opinion. Syn values given are correct at time of writing but may not always be accurate.
Ideally, you should check with Slimming world for the most up to date Syn values using official resources such as; the Syns calculator, Syns Online on LifelineOnline or by calling the Syns Hotline on (0906) 851 8518.
