Over in our Facebook group (where we now have over 525,000 members 😱 it keeps going up each week!) one of the hot topics of each week is spotting new products that are Slimming World friendly, for our Shopping Essentials list!
Not all of you are in our Facebook group (you should be!), so I thought I’d add it to the website as a weekly feature.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
Last week, we were all shivering in freezing temperatures thanks to the ‘Beast from the East’, but most of that snow has now gone, thankfully!
We know, from posts in our Facebook group, that staying motivated and on plan during the bad weather last week wasn’t easy.
Getting to the shops was a struggle for some people, then finding empty shelves made it more frustrating.
Spring in the air has put a spring in our step, and we’ve got lots of great new Slimming World friendly products on this week’s Shopping Essentials list.
Lidl Pick of the Week
As you’ll know, the Slimming World plan recommends including 1/3 of a plate of Speed Food with every meal where we can, so we always include some Speed foods in our Shopping Essentials round up, too!
This week’s offers from Lidl are;
Blood oranges – Speed food. Try our 2.5 Syn a slice Orange & Almond Cake
Red onions – Speed food. Fantastic for our Syn Free Caramelised Onion Hummus
Baby potatoes – Free food. Perfect for Syn Free Pea, Pickle and Bacon Potato Salad
Mini veg – Speed food. Add to our tasty Half Syn Firecracker Chicken
Lidl and Aldi both offer a good range of fruit and vegetables on offer each week. Check out last week’s Shopping Essentials round up for the Aldi selection as it’s still current.
Prices range from 39p to 79p per pack.
ASDA Mango, Melon & Strawberry
If you’re a regular reader of our Shopping Essentials, you’ll know we often bring you pots or trays of prepared fruit.
These packs offer a great grab and go snack when you’re out and about, rather than picking out a high Syn alternative.
This is a new selection, containing mouth-watering fresh Mango, Melon and Strawberries. Mango is free, the melon and strawberry are speed.
It’s available from Asda, priced at £1.75 for a 240g pack.
Muller Quark yogurt
When we first heard rumours about these Muller Quark Yogurts, we got quite excited. For some people, Quark is a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it!
If you’ve bought some, but aren’t too sure what to do with it, we have some ideas here, in our ‘What you can do with Quark‘ article.
A word of warning to everyone, these Muller Quark yogurts are NOT FREE! The strawberry and plain flavours are 5.5 Syns each on the Slimming World database, and the Vanilla flavour is 6 Syns.
Alpine Style Muller Quark Yogurts are exclusive to Asda, priced at 50p per pot.
Lindahls Kvarg Quark
We’re still riding the quark train with our next product. Lindahls Kvarg is listed as Sweden’s favourite quark.
It’s protein-rich, fat free and low in sugar. Thick and creamy, it’s a delicious snack on it’s own, served with fruit, or mixed with flavouring extracts.
You could use this fruit flavoured quark to make our magical Low Syn Unicorn Eton Mess!
The vanilla and raspberry varieties have been available from some B&M stores, Heron Foods and Home Bargains for a while, but Asda are now stocking them, along with a new Peach and Passion Fruit flavour.
Unlike the new Muller Quark Yogurt, these Lindahl Kvarg flavours are free on the Syns Online database. You can find them in Asda, priced at 50p per pot.
Muller Light Limited Edition – New Flavour
When you’re following Slimming World, finding something sweet for an easy dessert choice is a never-ending quest.
We regularly feature Muller Light yogurts, as they’re a big favourite for many people, with a wide range of flavours.
This is a new limited edition Mango and Lychee flavour Muller Light yogurt. At the moment it looks as though it’s exclusive to Tesco.
I used this flavour yesterday to make my own variation of tropical baked oats – based on the Low Syn Bounty Baked Oats recipe, adding coconut extract and serving with defrosted tropical fruits. Nom!
Asda Cereal Bars – New HEB choice
There are lots of cereal bars out there, but it’s always good to find another one that’s been added to the Slimming World Healthy Extras list.
Step forward the new range of Asda cereal bars. Three delicious new varieties of cereal bar, Chocolate & Orange flavour, Summer Berries flavour and Chocolate & Fudge flavour.
These new cereal bars have been listed as 3 Syns per bar on the Slimming World database, but more importantly, they’re also listed as 2 bars for an Healthy Extra B choice!
These are already on the shelves at Asda, priced at 89p for a pack of 5 bars, and they’re pretty tasty.
Weetabix Additions Red Berries – New HEB choice
If you like to mix things up and vary your Healthy Extra choices then you’re going to be spoilt for choice this week!
Slimming World have added Weetabix Additions Red Berries to the Healthy Extras list as a new B choice. 100% wholegrain wheat with the delicious flavours of strawberries and raspberries and suitable for vegetarians, too.
You can have 2 Weetabix biscuits as an HEB choice, or 7 Syns.
A pack of 24 biscuits is on offer in Sainsbury’s for £2.00, normal price £2.95.
Violife 100% Vegan Mediterranean Style Free From
We always try to bring new Free From options to you when we find them, and this week is no exception!
When I say Free From, I really mean it! This Violife 100% Vegan Mediterranean Style is a cheese alternative that is free from Dairy, Soya, Gluten, Lactose, Nuts and Preservatives. It’s on the SW app at 3.5 Syns per 25g.
I’ve seen a couple of reviews on this, one of which said that it grills well and made a delicious ‘Halloumi’ type hummus burger.
Why not try it in our Syn Free Halloumi Cous Cous Burger with Salsa recipe?
Violife 100% Vegan Mediterranean Style block is available from Morrisons, and costs £2.56 for a 200g block.
Don Simon Activ No Added Sugar Strawberry Soya Drink
Don Simon is a name I usually associate with fruit juice, but this week I found a new product from them, so I thought I’d take a closer look.
This is a no added sugar, strawberry soya drink. It’s also gluten & dairy free, and has Vitamins A, B6 and D.
Using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website, these work out at 2.5 Syns per bottle. They’re available from Morrisons, priced at £2.00 for a pack of 6 x 125ml bottles.
Batchelors Limited Edition Pasta ‘n’ Sauce Prosecco & Mushroom
I have to admit, I baulked at this product when I saw it posted to the Facebook group earlier this week. Prosecco & Mushroom Pasta ‘n’ Sauce?!
As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one place for Prosecco, and that’s chilled, in a glass, in my hand!
Batchelors have launched a Limited Edition Pasta ‘n’ Sauce in Prosecco & Mushroom flavour. It’s not my cup of tea, but if you’re obsessed with all things Prosecco, you might fancy trying these!
Using the Syns calculator, this works out at 2.5 Syns per half a pack, as prepared. Personally, I’d rather save my Syns and put them towards a lovely glass of fizz instead!
This Limited Edition Prosecco & Mushroom flavour Pasta ‘n’ Sauce is exclusive to Asda, priced at 75p per pack. There’s also a multibuy offer of 4 packs for £2.00
Diet Coke New Flavours – Now in cans
Back in February, we brought news of new flavours in the Diet Coke range in our Shopping Essentials Top Pick article, Feisty Cherry and Exotic Mango.
You may have seen these flavours featuring on a new TV advertising campaign for Diet Coke this week, ‘Because I can’.
The new can has a subtle difference in design, and the two new flavours are now available in packs of 8 x 300ml cans too, along with original Diet Coke.
If you haven’t already tried it, try using Diet Coke to make our legendary Diet Coke – Pepsi Max Chicken.
Le Joli Mexican Lime & Mint Sparkling Water
It’s always been important to drink plenty and stay well hydrated. We’re constantly on the lookout for new drinks to keep things interesting.
This Le Joli Mexican Lime and Mint Sparkling Water is new to Ocado. It comes in a pack of 4 x 330ml cans and is described as sparkling water infused with natural flavours for a clean and refreshing taste. It’s free using the Syns calculator.
This pack of 4 cans of Mexican Lime and Mint Sparkling Water costs £2.00 at the moment, whilst on introductory offer. (until 20.3.18)
Nakd Carrot Cake bars
Earlier this year, we brought you news of delicious Nakd Blueberry Muffin bars in one of our Shopping Essentials articles.
Whilst doing my shopping research this week, I spotted these Nakd Carrot Cake bars on the Ocado website.
Nakd Carrot Cake has velvety pieces of carrot with the warming spice of cinnamon smooshed together with walnuts, raisins and dates which tastes just as yummy as the real thing.
If you fancy saving some Syns and making your own, we have a delicious recipe for Syn Free Carrot Cake with Syn Free Cream Cheese Frosting.
These Nakd Carrot Cake bars are on the Syns Online database for 7.5 Syns each. A box of 4 x 35g bars costs £2.49 from Ocado.
Nakd Peanut Delight Bar
I spotted another yummy sounding treat from Nakd as I was browsing the Ocado website yesterday.
Nākd Peanut Delight bar has a lovely deep, rich peanut taste. Made with chunky peanut pieces, together with delicious dates.
Peanuts are often considered too high in Syns for Slimming World, but by using them in this way, you get the Peanut flavour and a satisfying, chewy cereal bar.
For more yummy peanut flavour, why not make our Low Syn Banana and Peanut Muffins.
Nakd Peanut Bars are available as individual bars, priced at 75p for a 35g bar. They’re listed on the Slimming World app at 7.5 Syns each.
Thorntons Chocolate Orange Cake Bites
The Thorntons name has always been associated with chocolate. In Iceland this week I found these Thorntons Chocolate Orange Cake Bites.
Cubes of chocolate sponge, topped with a layer of orange buttercream, fully covered in smooth milk chocolate, with a dark chocolate drizzle. What’s not to love?!
If you love the combination of chocolate and orange flavours, you should try our Low Syn Chocolate and Orange Biscuits!
Breyers Ice Cream – Introductory Offer from Ocado
We first introduced Breyers Ice Cream back in January in the Shopping Essentials list. Since then, we’ve brought regular updates as it became more widely available.
This week, we discovered that it’s now available from Ocado. Not only that, there’s an introductory offer, so it costs £3.50 for a tub, rather than £4.99
It’s available in 4 flavours –
- Mint Chip – 3.5 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Cookies and Cream – 3.5 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Creamy Chocolate – 3 Syns per 53g (100ml)
- Smooth Vanilla – 3 Syns per 53g (100ml)
We’re not sure how long the introductory offer will last, so if you’re a fan, grab some while you can and save some money!
Breyers Ice Cream is on offer from Ocado, priced at £3.50 for a 500ml tub.
Swizzels Love Hearts Fruit Flavour Ice Lollies
We’ve focused on ice creams and lollies many times over recent weeks, so this week we’re going to continue the tradition with a couple more choices for you.
You must remember Swizzels Love Hearts! Tubes of fizzy sweets, with a message written in a heart on each one.
In Asda this week, I was briefly transported back to my school days when I spotted these Swizzels Love Hearts Fruit Flavour Ice Lollies.
They’re fruit flavour ice lollies, and each one has a message printed on the stick!
They’re 3.5 Syns each, using the Syns Calculator. A box of 4 lollies costs £2.25 from Asda.
Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits Ice Lollies
Robinsons Fruit and Barley drinks have been around for years, but now Robinsons also make lollies.
Last week we showed you Robinsons Fruit Shoot Lollies in our Shopping Essentials round up. This week, we have Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits Ice Lollies.
With real fruit juice from cherries and strawberries, these lollies are really refreshing and light, perfect as a little pick-me-up after a meal.
The lollies come in a pack of 3 and cost £2.20. They are 3.5 Syns using the Snackulator on the Slimming World website.
Iceland Hungry Heroes Fruity Lollies
I always have a quick scan around in Iceland to see what’s new. Obviously, as the sole stockists of Slimming World branded meals, you can always find something SW friendly in an Iceland store.
I was having a browse around and spotted these Iceland Hungry Heroes Fruity Lollies. They’re Strawberry or Mango frozen yogurt lollies, and super low in Syns at just 1.5 per lolly.
Recently, we were asked to review SlimLine Wines, and of course, we said yes. We sampled their red wine, white wine and sparkling wine. You can find out what we thought here, in our Slimline Wine Review.
We have also been asked to try the Pink SlimLine Wine, so we’ll be bringing you a review of that very soon!
If you need to check Syn values for your own favourite tipples, you can find information for Wine here, for Spirits and Liqueurs here, and for Ciders, Beers and Lagers here. (Knowledge is Power, so you can make an informed choice and stay on track!)
