We’re fast approaching the halfway point in this years Great British Bakeoff, and this week is a first…..Batter Week! So here’s our version….1 Syn Lace Pancakes.
The traditional lace pancake recipe isn’t very Slimming World friendly as it contains flour, milk and melted butter. We’ve made a few changes and think the end result is pretty good.
Just 1 syn (for the milk) for the whole lot if you use the oats as your HEB. If you choose not to use your HEB it will work out at 7 syns for the whole lot. You should get 6 pancakes out of this mix, depending on how big you make them.
Is It A Tweak?
First, let’s clear something up before we get to the recipe for these 1 Syn Lace Pancakes. This recipe uses porridge oats that have been blitzed in a food processor.
There has been many a debate on Facebook as to whether oats that have been ground down, are synned or still carry their free food status.
As always, we like to pass on the most up to date information we can, so we contacted Slimming World Head Office directly to settle this debate. Might as well hear it straight from the horses mouth, right?
Now for the good news!
I was told that you do not need to syn the ground oats, as blitzing them does not alter the nutritional value. Also you are using them as your HEB so the amount you can eat is restricted so there’s very little chance of you over eating them.
Having said that, as with anything that could be considered a possible tweak, if you eat these 1 Syn Lace Pancakes often and it affects your weight loss, then you should stop using the oats in this way.

Synning the sweetener
As you will probably know Slimming World have changed their recommendations regarding the syn value of granulated sweeteners. Slimming World have confirmed what this change means.
Where there is 1 tbsp or more being used per serving they recommend members count 0.5 Syn per tbsp. If using smaller amounts, like a pinch or teaspoon, there’s no need to worry about Syns at all.
The recipe for these 1 Syn Lace Pancakes uses 3 quarters of a tablespoon of sweetener and the recipe makes 1 portion, so there’s no need to add any syns on for the sweetener itself.
