This Hunters Chicken is perfect if you’re following a calorie controlled diet, and fits well with any one of the major diet plans such as Weight Watchers.

How to make Hunters Chicken
There are many ways you can make this Hunters Chicken, and we’ve included a couple of them below in the recipe card.
Our favourite way of making this recipe is in the slow cooker!
This Hunters Chicken recipe only takes 3 hours or so on a high setting, but if you want to leave it on all day you should cook it on low or the chicken may dry out a little.
It’s incredibly easy to make. Here’s a summary;
- Wrap the chicken breasts in bacon, and secure with a cock tail stick.
- Put everything else in the slow cooker, with the chicken breast on top.
- Cook in the slow cooker, then blitz the sauce, pour over the cooked chicken, sprinkle with the cheese and melt under the grill.
- Serve with whatever you like. You’ll find some ideas below.

Any of the following go really well with Hunters Chicken. It’s one of those dishes that goes with pretty much anything.

The Slow Cooker
Slow cookers are great if you just want to throw everything in and have your dinner ready when you walk through the door.
The Stick Blender
We use a stick blender like this to make the BBQ sauce Tower Hand Blender, because they are so easy to use and (just as importantly) so easy to clean.
This particular one has a masher attachment included, which is perfect for making our Creamy Mashed Potato
If you’re anything like us you’ll always have a pack of cocktails sticks lurking at the back of the cupboard, usually leftover from Christmas.
But if not you can pick some up from any supermarket or from Amazon.
Can you cook this Hunters Chicken any other way?
As mentioned above there are a couple of ways to cook this Hunters Chicken.
Slow Cooker: This will take around 3 hours or so – see the instructions in the recipe card below.
Oven: You can also cook this in the oven in a casserole dish. Cook for about an hour at 180°C.
How do you know when Hunters Chicken is cooked?
As with all chicken dishes, it will be cooked when the juices run clear after pricking the chicken with a fork.
This should take approx 1 hour in the oven, and 3 hours in the slow cooker.
Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.
How long can you keep Hunters Chicken in the fridge?
Once you’ve put it out, ideally you should eat it within 4 hours.
If you allow any left overs to cool, make sure to refrigerate them straight away, in a container with a lid. You can keep leftovers of Hunters Chicken in the fridge for approximately 2 or 3 days.
Can I freeze Hunters Chicken?
Yes you can! This recipe can be frozen, but please remember to do the following;
- Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough.
- Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
Don’t forget to add a label with what it is, and on what date you put it in the freezer! Unless you fancy mystery food for dinner haha.
How do I reheat Hunters Chicken?
From chilled: Place in a microwave proof container with loosely fitting lid and heat for 4-7 minutes until piping hot.
From frozen: Allow to defrost, and heat covered in the microwave for 3-5 minutes then stir. Cook for a further 5-7 minutes until piping hot.
