Toad In The Hole - Pinch of Nom Slimming RecipesFor the full list of ingredients and comprehensive instructions, please see the recipe card at the end of this post. Before you scroll, there’s important stuff to know in the blurb!

We really hate the dark nights drawing in, when it feels like summer came and went in no time at all. Like so many others during the colder months, we tend to steer towards hearty, comforting meals that are quick and easy.

This must be a familiar story, as so many members of our Facebook group love this recipe like we do! In fact, this was a Sunday treat growing up and even now it still feels naughty, despite being much lower in calories and points than a traditional, full-fat version.

Toad In The Hole is also affordable and easy enough to feed the whole family all in one go: who doesn’t love the cracking combo of Yorkshire puddings and juicy sausages?!

It’s a delicious twist on a classic Yorkshire Pudding recipe, adding some protein from the sausages and turning it into a proper comfort food dinner. You could put your own twist on this too, by adding onions, some spicy sausages or even some red onion marmalade.

Do you need any special ingredients to make this Toad in the Hole Recipe?

Nope! Everything in this recipe is easily found in the local supermarket. Use whichever low fat sausage you prefer, but do remember the points and calorie count may differ, so adjust accordingly.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

NEW TIP
Absolutely a firm family favourite time and time again!
I added a couple more extra sausages for the other half who is sausage mad….but apart from that, there isn’t anything I could possibly change with this easy tasty meal. I did throw in some fresh Rosemary sprigs from my garden for some added flavour.
Batter
I doubled the mixture of batter but that's purely preference
Mid week treat
Made 2, one with reduced fat sausages and one with hubbies favourites, divided mixture then cooked in air fryer, 8 mins for sausages added batter then 35 mins came out perfect. Served with PON Gravy. Delicious.
A brilliant recipe, so easy to make for even beginners
Save time by making the batter ahead of time, and why not cut the sausages up in to smaller chunks and mix into the batter, perfect for the children.
Hint & Tip
I add mustard powder and dried mixed herbs to the batter for more flavour. I also add a sliced red onion & some button mushrooms to the oil, it really adds another dimension to it.

I cooked this in my Ninja Foodi, and it came out perfect
I cooked the mash and veg first in the ninja, and then cooked the sausages for 8mins on grill with a little spray of oil. I then added the batter and cooked for 25mins at 180⁰ on Bake/Roast, not opening the lid until 5mins left to check it was okay
I love this recipe!
A childhood favourite of mines without the excess calories. This is a dish with a lighter pastry but just as filling. The gravy just finishes the recipe off nicely.
Veggie option
Use meat free sausages for an even lower calorie count!
Delicious and easy!
I love this meal, it's the only successful toad in the hole recipe that works for me!
Fabulous! Definitely another one to do again!
Make sure you arrange your oven shelves first, leaving lots of space as you should get a decent rise.
My second attempt at the Toad in the Hole and my hint will be to use an electric whisk rather than a hand whisk. Second attempt was so much nicer.
Wouldn't change a thing 😊
I doubled the recipe for the batter as I used a pack of 8 sausages 😋

‘I was so proud of how this turned out. My mum was a great cook and did a lovely toad in the hole, but it has never turned out right for me - until now. Not sure what is different, but it really turned out well - perfect in fact and everyone loved it!’
