Delicious, nutritious and super-simple to make, hard-boiled eggs are an easy go-to snack or healthy breakfast option. But there is nothing worse than when the egg yolk has been cooked too long or too little, leaving much to be desired.
Don’t worry, Pinch Of Nom is here to help you never be disappointed with your soft boiled eggs ever again!
What you need to cook Soft Boiled Eggs
There are a few things you need to make Soft Boiled Eggs.
This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.
- A decent saucepan with a lid (we have this set)
- Large fresh eggs – make sure that you are using eggs that are several days old. Hard boiling freshly laid eggs often leads to eggs that can be difficult to peel.
- Salt & pepper (I like to use Cornish Sea Salt flakes)
- Boiling water
How to cook Soft Boiled Eggs
We’ve used large eggs so timings will vary slightly depending on the size – smaller eggs won’t take as long, and extra large eggs will take longer.
Bring a pan of water to the boil, put the eggs in gently as you don’t want to crack them! It’s easier if you put them on a slotted spoon and lower them in.
Turn the heat down slightly so they are on a fast simmer. Set your timer for 6 minutes!
While the eggs are cooking, fill a bowl with ice and water – set to one side.
Once the 6 minutes are up, use a slotted spoon to remove the eggs from the pan and plunge them into the bowl of iced water. Leave them in the iced water for 30-40 seconds.
Then peel the eggs carefully, making sure to keep dipping them in the water. It will help make the eggs easier to peel.
And et voila!! The perfect Soft Boiled Eggs ready to enjoy them however you like.
You could have them on top of our Ramen Noodle Bowls…
Or you could do as we do and have them with some sausages instead!
There are some great low fat sausages available, but they all vary in their calories and points etc, so do remember to check!
