These Dirty Fries are sublime, and the perfect addition to any slimming friendly, Weight Watchers or low calorie meal that the whole family will love!

Last year we came up with a Dirty Rice, and it’s fair to say that it was one of our most popular recipes EVER. These Dirty Fries will be another favourite as they’re sooooooooo good!!

Bacon, potatoes and Cajun spice may sound like a bit of an odd mix, but it’s truly amazing. It has to be one of our favourite combinations ever.

Dirty Rice and Dirty Fries get their names from the appearance of the finished dish. They’re usually finished with chicken livers, which give them a brown appearance (although we’ve obviously left them out!)

How do you know when these Dirty Fries are cooked?

You should cook this recipe until the cheese is golden and bubbly, and the fries are crispy and cooked right through.

This should take approx 45 minutes in an airfryer or oven.

Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.

How long can you keep Dirty Fries in the fridge?

Once you’ve served this recipe, ideally you should eat it whilst hot.

If you allow any left overs to cool, make sure to refrigerate in a container with a lid and chill.  You can keep leftovers of these Dirty Fries in the fridge for approximately 3 days or so.

Can I cook Dirty Fries another way?

Yes! You can cook this recipe either in an air fryer, or in the oven. Detailed instructions of how to use either way of cooking are listed in the recipe card below!

Can I freeze these Dirty Fries?

This recipe isn’t suitable for freezing.

How do I reheat Dirty Fries?

Place in a microwave proof container with loosely fitting lid and heat for 4-7 minutes until piping hot.

Alternatively, you could reheat in an oven preheated to 170ºC by placing the fries in an oven proof dish  and cooking for 20-25 minutes until piping hot.

Instructions

Actifry method
  1. Cut the potatoes into chips. You don't have to peel them but make sure you wash them. Toss them in a decent amount of low calorie cooking spray, 1 tsp of the Cajun spice mix, and then season them well.
  2. Cook for 30 minutes in the Actifry, then set them aside.
  3. Add the onions, peppers, bacon, remaining Cajun seasoning and Worcestershire sauce to the air fryer. Spray with some low calorie cooking spray and cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Return the chips and cook for 1 minute, then remove the paddle and sprinkle the cheese over the top of the chips.
  5. Cook for 1 minute and serve.
Oven method
  1. Pre heat the oven to 200°C. Then cut the potatoes into chips. There's no need to peel them.
  2. Place them in a pan of boiling salted water and simmer until they start to soften but are still quite firm.
  3. Drain the potatoes and spray a baking tray with low calorie cooking spray. Coat the potatoes in low calorie cooking spray and sprinkle them with a little salt and half of the Cajun seasoning.
  4. Place in the oven for 20-30 minutes until they are soft and starting to colour.
  5. Meanwhile, spray a frying pan with a generous amount of low calorie cooking spray, then add the chopped peppers, bacon, onions, Worcestershire sauce and remaining Cajun seasoning.
  6. Cook for a few minutes until they start to soften. When the chips are cooked and browned, add them to the frying pan and stir well.
  7. Place the contents into an oven proof dish and cook in the oven for 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Then serve.

Hi Megan, in an Airfryer I would suggest to cook the Dirty Fries at 160ºC in an Actifry set the timer for 30 minutes and follow the rest of the steps in the recipe. Hope that helps!

Lovely recipe – but is there a good way to cook the “chips” without an Actifry, as I don’t have one, thanks 🙂
