There’s two main stumbling blocks when it comes to Christmas dos and trying to be angelic to the Slimming World plan; Food and drink. Quite often you’re able to control each one of these aspects with relative ease.
Maybe it’s the twinkly lights or the excessive amount of tree on show, but something often makes you ‘click out’ of Slimming World mode as soon as you’re attending a party at Christmas time.
Another stumbling block is wayward friends. You’re likely to have friends and colleagues who don’t follow Slimming World, who will try to tempt you with their Synful ways.
Three drinks or less you may have the stamina, determination and courage to say NO! I shall NOT eat THAT because THAT is bad and I WILL regret it. Four drinks + you? Perhaps a slightly different story…
Many people have found that it’s really useful to explain to whoever you’re out with that you’re following the Slimming World plan and you need to remain mindful of this. You’ll be surprised at how supportive your mates will be, I was!
Being Out Of Control – Surviving The Christmas Do On Slimming World
Quite often when you’re invited out on a Christmas do, you’re told where it is, and that’s about it. More often than not, you are not in control of what variety of food and drink is on offer for you throughout the evening.
Preventative measures are a must. You’ll thank yourself.
Now, if you’re a bit footloose and all too happy to go with the flow, then this is a good thing. But I catch you with your Slimming World hat on, and this is a better thing.
If you’re able to do your best weather reporter impression, and forecast gusts of ‘Your finest portion of cheesy chips please, purveyor of potatoey goodness’ at 3am, then some preventative measures are a must. You’ll thank yourself.
If you’re able to, press whoever is planning the shenanigans for further details. Find out what’s on the menu, what sort of drinks there is on offer. See whether you can skip on the food and prepare yourself something wonderfully Slimming World friendly before you head out.
Using Flexi-Syns – Surviving The Christmas Do On Slimming World
Flexi-Syns is something that you may or may not have come across in your time following the Slimming World plan. They’re a great way of being able to control your Syns for times where you know you’ll go over your Syn allowance.
The most important aspect of Flexi-Syns? STICK TO IT!
Flexi-Syns, put simply, is where you can increase your syn allowance for an occasion such as your Christmas do, and then stick to plan throughout the rest of the week.
For example, if you can work out that your usual drink is 4 Syns a pop, allow for a certain amount of Syns for this before you head out. The most important aspect of this? STICK TO IT!
This is a great way of still being able to enjoy yourself on a night out, not beating yourself up for it the next day wishing you’d never drank/ate so much the night before, and still sticking on the Slimming World plan.
Know Your Syn Values – Surviving The Christmas Do On Slimming World
This is probably the most useful, and proactive, way of remaining in control and On Plan when you’re on a night out.
Knowing the Syn values for certain drinks can also make you much more aware of how these drinks may affect your weight loss journey.
No doubt you will have heard your Slimming World consultant say ‘Use your book!’ a thousand times in group. This is when your book becomes very useful indeed.

Quite often there’s a certain drink that you’ll be faithful to on a night out (Mine’s an old man cider, cheers mate). All you need to do is find out the Syn value of this drink, and whatever else you’re likely to stumble upon, and allow for it using Flexi-Syns. Simple!

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare! – Surviving The Christmas Do On Slimming World
I’ll give you a little story about me, and my post-night out routine. Quite often I’ll go out, stroll back home and accidentally fall into the chip shop. Large cheesy chips, cheers.
A little bit of prep work before your Christmas do can really help you stick On Plan and keep Slimming World in mind. Regardless of the situation.
Get home, eat them, go to sleep. Wake up, head slightly thicker than it was the night before. Walk into lounge and spy chip shop wrappers and rogue bits of cheese on the floor. Oops.
I don’t think there is a Syn value put on a large cheesy chips, but it’s likely to be quite high. One evening in the summer I thought NO, enough of this, I prepared something quite amazing.
My very own portion of cheesy chips, cooking Syn Free Rustic Potato Wedges and using my Healthy Extra allowance of cheese. Prepped and ready to chuck into the microwave upon arriving at home in the early hours.
It’s quite possibly the most genius thing I’ve achieved in my 26 years on this planet, and just shows that a little bit of prep work before your Christmas do can really help you stick On Plan and keep Slimming World in mind. Regardless of the situation.
Most Importantly… Enjoy Yourself! – Surviving The Christmas Do On Slimming World
You may think that having to account for following the Slimming World plan whilst on your Christmas night out might be a bit dull, but it really isn’t!
Using your Syns in a smart and controlled way is both very easy and very effective.
