Chicken with Peking-Style Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 medium chicken breasts, sliced into strips
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and sliced
  • 1 pepper (any colour), deseeded and sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese 5 spice
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 spring onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • low-calorie cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, add the Worcestershire sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, shaoxing wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and ketchup. Stir to combine. Then add a little black pepper, the Chinese 5 spice, and cornflour. Stir until smooth.

  2. Spray a frying pan and set on a medium heat. Add the chicken and fry for 2 minutes.

  3. Add the garlic, onion, and pepper, and continue to fry for 2 minutes.

  4. Pour in the sauce and fry until thickened (this should take 3-4 minutes).

  5. Serve sprinkled with sesame seeds, spring onion, and your choice of accompaniment.
