How many calories are in these Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers?
There are only 454 calories in one of these Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers , which means they fall into our Weekly Indulgence category. These are all recipes that come in at under 500 calories or more, great for when you’re hosting or simply fancy something a little more indulgent to tuck into.
All of the recipes in our Weekly Indulgence category slot perfectly into calorie-controlled diets or any one of the major diet plans like Weight Watchers. As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day. Obviously, if your goal is to lose weight, then you might want to adjust these slightly. You can read more about these recommendations on the NHS website.
Step 1
Spray the frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the onions, grated apple, and a pinch of salt. Fry for 5 minutes until softened. Allow to cool.
Step 2
Place the pork mince in a bowl and add the apple, onions, and Branston pickle. Season with some salt and pepper, then mix until thoroughly combined.
Step 3
Divide into 4 even portions, then shape into burgers approximately 12cm in diameter (we used a burger press, but you can shape by hand if you want).
Step 4
Spray the air fryer basket with low-calorie cooking spray and air-fry the burgers at 200°C for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through. You’ll know that the burgers are cooked when they’re firm to touch and the juices run clear.
Step 5
Turn off the air fryer and pop a cheese slice on top of each burger, then close the drawer. Leave for a minute or two. The residual heat from the air fryer will be enough to melt the cheese.
Step 6
Split the rolls, and fill with the leaves, tomatoes, and onions. Put a burger on top and add a teaspoon of pickle to the top. Then close the bun and tuck in!
What could I serve with these Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers?
These Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers are delicious with a crisp side salad, or you could serve them with lots of different slimming-friendly options! Here are some ideas:
How do you know when your Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers are cooked?
You’ll know the burgers are cooked when they feel firm to the touch and the juices run clear. If you’re unsure, cut into the centre of one burger to check that the pork is cooked through, with no pink remaining. You can also make these on the hob if you prefer.
As per UK food safety guidelines, always cook meat until it reaches 75ºC and stays at that temperature for at least two minutes. This is to keep you and whoever it is you’re cooking for safe.
How long can you keep Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers in the fridge?
Once you’ve served up your Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers, ideally you should eat them within 4 hours.
If you do hang onto any leftovers, be sure to refrigerate them in an air-tight container with a lid. You can store Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers in the fridge for approximately 3 days or so.
Can I freeze Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers?
Yes, you can! This recipe can be frozen for up to 3 months, just be sure to do the following:
- Freeze them before cooking. Place a sheet of baking parchment between each burger to stop them sticking together, then wrap well and store in an airtight container.
- Use a container suitable for freezing.
- Don’t forget to add a label reminding you what they are, and on what date you put them in the freezer!
How do I reheat Air Fryer Ploughman’s Burgers?
From chilled: Place in a moderate oven for 10-15 minutes, until the burgers are piping hot throughout.
From frozen: Allow to defrost thoroughly overnight, then heat as above. If needed, gently reshape the burgers before cooking — according to the recipe instructions.
