There are many treats that I miss when following Slimming World, and I know that you shouldn’t really miss them as that’s what your syns are for.

But sometimes, there just aren’t enough syns in the week to squeeze in all the treats you want!

We used to have McDonalds breakfast on the way to work every so often… Double sausage and egg McMuffin with a hash brown and a black coffee.

I really miss them every now and again, so we decided to try and make something as close as we could to the original, whilst keeping it as low in syns as we can.

If you’ve ever enjoyed a sausage McMuffin, you’ll know that the sausage patties are very distinctive in taste. Herby, but not spicy like Cumberland.

Syn free sausages are hard to come by, so we opted for Slimming World’s own Syn free sausages (you can get them from Iceland). They’re not too bad on their own, but add in some rosemary, sage and thyme and they become pretty magical!

The second most important bit I’d say is the egg.

We wanted a super quick and easy way, but that’s not to say this way is easy. You MUST prick the yolks if you do them in the microwave. Otherwise you’ll be cleaning egg up, which trust me is no fun.

You could also poach them, it’s entirely up to you.

Next the cheese. Laughing cow’s wouldn’t melt without heating them up so we opted for Primula.

A tablespoon weighs 17g (we measured!) so take care to take this from one of your Healthy extra A allowances, or syn it. It’s entirely up to you. Also all profits from Primula go to charity, which I thought is really nice of them.

We opted for wholemeal rolls, which take up your Healthy option B. Personally I don’t think an english muffin is worth the syns, but should you disagree – don’t forget to syn it!

Whenever we need to replace oil in cooking we use Frylight. Perfect for everyday frying and cooking, it delivers exactly one calorie per spray, which makes it Syn free! The Avocado or Olive Oil flavours are ideal for this Syn Free Double Sausage & Egg Fakeaway McMuffins recipe.

  1. Remove the skins from the sausage and place the sausage meat in a bowl
  2. Add the chopped herbs, you can use a small pinch of dried if you don't have fresh
  3. Split the sausage meat into 4 equal pieces, then shape each one into a flat round burger shape, big enough to fit on the roll
  4. Fry each sausage patty over a medium heat, in a little, Frylight until they are cooked through. It should take around 5 minutes on each side
  5. When the sausage is almost cooked spray two small microwaveable bowls with Frylight and crack an egg into each one. Season the eggs, pierce the yolks and cover with cling film
  6. Microwave each egg on high for about 30 seconds. Keep an eye on them as they may pop in the microwave. The yolks should be quite firm but still moist
  7. Slice the rolls in half, then stack two sausage patties on each roll, add the Primula on top of the sausage and then top with the egg

  1. I use the M&S reduced fat sausages for 1.5 Syns each and this is the quickest breakfast to do in a morning. My husband loves these and has come round to SW just because of this recipe!!

    Top tip – skin the sausage and then roll into a ball. Put on a ZIP lock bag and fold the edge over and press – perfect burger shape every time without mess!!

  2. I’m going to make these – they look yummy. I’ll put them in a Kingsmill wholemeal Thin. You could even make them square to fit!!
