Sometimes on the weekend, we’d occasionally have a chicken kebab, but not anymore. This Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki is a million times nicer!
We don’t tend to have a “treat night” anymore, and instead we’ll cook something interesting that feels like a “treat” – hence our obsession with recreating take away recipes and turning them into slimming “fakeaways”!
This Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki is super low on calories and Points and we think it tastes even better than something you’d pick up from the takeaway – it’s really worth that extra little bit of effort!

What do I need to cook this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki?
You’ll need a good quality jar with a tight lid to store the rest of the Souvlaki seasoning mix in, and you’ll be able to pick up some bamboo skewers from any supermarket – they’ll be on offer soon as BBQ season starts!
Our cast iron griddle pan has to be the most used pan in our kitchen. It’s the best pan to cook meat in, and it holds the heat SO well! It also means that you’ll get those fantastic griddle marks which make your food taste amazing.

How many calories are in this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki?
There are only 343 calories in each portion of this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki which means falls into our Everyday Light category.
This recipe is perfect if you’re following a calorie controlled diet and fits well with any one of the major diet plans such as Weight Watchers.
As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day. Souvlaki seasoning mix
Step 1
Mix all of the ingredients together and place in a glass jar – preferably one with a tight lid.
Souvlaki chicken
Step 1
Cut the chicken breasts into chunks about the size and thickness of a chicken nugget. Place into a non-reactive bowl.
Step 2
Add the lemon juice and mix well so all of the pieces are coated.
Step 3
Add 2 tbsp of the Souvlaki Seasoning Mix and mix well. Cover with clingfilm and place in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Step 4
Preheat an oven to 200°C.
Step 5
Slide your chicken pieces onto the skewers and then spray them liberally with low calorie cooking spray.
Step 6
Heat a cast iron griddle pan (or mist a frying pan with low calorie cooking spray and heat, if you don’t have one). When the pan is very hot, add the chicken skewers, and cook on each side until the chicken colours.
Step 7
Once coloured on all sides, place the chicken in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
For the Tzatziki dressing
Step 1
Place all of the Tzatziki ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Season to taste.

How do you know when this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki is cooked?
You’ll need to cook the chicken for around 20 minutes or until it’s cooked through.
Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.
How long can you keep Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki in the fridge?
Once you’ve put it out, ideally you should eat this dish within 4 hours.
If you allow any leftovers to cool, make sure to refrigerate in a container with a lid and chill. You can keep leftovers of Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki in the fridge for approximately 3 days or so.
Can you freeze this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki?
Yes you can! You can freeze the chicken in this recipe, but not the tzatziki. Please remember to do the following;
- Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough.
- Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
Don’t forget to add a label with what it is, and on what date you put it in the freezer!
How do you reheat this Chicken Souvlaki and Tzatziki recipe?
From chilled: Place in a microwave proof container with loosely fitting lid and heat for 4-7 minutes until piping hot.
From frozen: Allow to defrost, and heat covered in the microwave for 3-5 minutes then stir. Cook for a further 5-7 minutes or until piping hot.
