Low Syn Boonanas

For the full list of ingredients and comprehensive instructions, please see the recipe card at the end of this post. Before you scroll, there’s important stuff in the blurb 👍

You’ll notice we haven’t stated a syn value for these as it will depend on how you decide to decorate them. We used plain chocolate chips which are 6 syns for 25g, but, you’re only using a very small amount on each of these Low Syn Boonanas so you would have to weigh your chocolate chips before melting them, then divide that total number of syns by however many Boonanas you have made.

I made 4 Boonanas and only used a few grams of chocolate chips, so all four would work out at less than 1 syn each.

Of course you could could used something other than chocolate to make the faces. Dried fruit for example. Whichever way you decide to decorate these, don’t forget to syn them accordingly. As always, it’s up to you and you alone to decide if you want to syn the decoration.

You can use whatever flavour yogurt you want for these. You can make lots of different flavours and colours, the choice is yours. We chose Fat Free Natural Yogurt flavour with a bit of syn free vanilla syrup.

One thing you will need for this Low Syn Boonanas recipe is wooden lolly ice sticks or some cake pop sticks. If you can’t get them from the supermarket you can pick them up from Amazon.

  • 1 large Banana
  • 1 small pot Fat Free Yogurt you can use any flavour. We used natural yogurt with some vanilla added
  • Plain chocolate chips for decoration. Syns depending on how many you use - 25g of chocolate chips = 6 syns
if you get a blank screen when printing, please open the website in a browser & not the facebook app.

  1. Peel the banana, then cut it in half. Slice each half length ways so you have 4 equal pieces
  2. Carefully insert a lolly ice stick into the cut end so it holds the banana securely
  3. Dip each banana into the yogurt, then place them on a piece of baking parchment
  4. Put them in the freezer until the yogurt is frozen (this shouldn't take too long)
  5. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in short 10 second bursts, checking after each 10 seconds. When they start to melt stir until they are smooth
  6. Make a small piping bag using a piece of greaseproof - Fold a square of greaseproof into a triangle, then into a cone shape, fill with the melted chocolate. Fold over the top and snip a tiny hole at the end.
  7. Pipe 2 eyes and a mouth on each frozen banana, then pop them back in the freezer until you're ready to eat them
