Switch up your chips! Everyone loves chips, but sometimes we all crave a little bit of variety, even in our regular favourites! These Sweet Potato Fries make a great alternative to our ever popular Homemade Oven Chips. You could even have half a portion of each! They’re the perfect side to a huge number of meals, including burgers, meat and fish.

We actually prefer sweet potato chips for a few reasons:

  1. They taste AMAZING and have a wonderful texture.
  2. You never have to par-boil because they are naturally softer.
  3. They look so pretty!

Surely you don’t need any more convincing than that?

Step 1

Step 2

Chop your potatoes into chip shapes. (If you want to be really particular you can and cut them into perfect rectangles to make nice straight chips).

Step 2 pinchofnom.com

Step 3

Cover a baking tray with tin foil and spray liberally with low calorie cooking spray.

Step 4

Add your chips to the tray, spray with more low calorie cooking spray and shake over plenty of Schwartz ‘Perfect Shake Chips’.

Step 5

Bake at 180°C (fan) for about 45-60 minutes. Keep an eye on the chips as sweet potato does catch very quickly- turn the heat down and cook for longer if you need to.

Step 6

When the chips are nearly done, spritz them with a little extra low calorie cooking spray before returning them to the oven for the last few minutes.

How do you know when the Sweet Potato Fries are cooked?

Sweet Potato Fries should cook for between 45-60 minutes. However, do keep an eye on the chips as sweet potato does catch very quickly – turn the heat down and cook for longer if you need to.

Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.

How long can you keep these Sweet Potato Fries in the fridge?

Once you’ve cooked them, you should eat Sweet Potato Fries straight away.

Can I freeze these Sweet Potato Fries?

Yes you can freeze your prepared sweet potato before adding the seasoning and baking. Then do the following;

  • Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough.
  • Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.

Don’t forget to add a label with what it is, and on what date you put it in the freezer!

How do I reheat Sweet Potato Fries?

From frozen: Add seasoning then bake in the oven at 180°C (fan) for about 55 – 60 minutes, turning half way through.

You could try cutting them a little thinner, or part cooking them in the microwave for a few minutes before putting in the oven 🙂

    Hi Joan
It seems that the nutritional calculator wasn’t dividing the total calories between the number of portions. This has now been fixed

    Hi John
Yes you can. We like to experiment with seasoning, chilli and garlic is another favourite of ours

KatieSaturday 14th January 2017

Using the chilli oil fry light is really nice and gives them a good lot of zing, at least 20-30 minutes needed

Dom PurchonThursday 24th November 2016

10 minutes is no where near long enough! Par boil or 30 minutes in the oven I’d say.
