Spaghetti Amatriciana is traditionally made using guanciale which is a type of Italian cured pork. We’ve swapped it out for low fat bacon medallions in our recipe to keep the calories and Points as low as possible.
Amatriciana is similar to the spicy Arrabbiata dish, but although it has a little kick, it’s much milder. If you like your food hot then just add more chilli to the sauce – similarly, if you’d prefer a milder taste, then you can just omit the chilli completely.
We’ve used Pecorino in this Spaghetti Amatriciana recipe which is an Italian hard cheese. You should be able to find it in your local supermarket, but if not then you can just substitute it for Parmesan instead.

Spray a pan with low calorie cooking spray.

Stir in the chilli flakes and tomato puree and cook for 30 seconds.
Step 4
Add the tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce, stir and increase the heat until the sauce bubbles.
Step 5
Reduce the heat and allow to gently simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 6
Meanwhile, bring a pan of salted water to the boil and cook the spaghetti according to packet instructions, usually between 9-12 minutes.
Step 7
When cooked, drain the spaghetti and add to the pan of sauce. Stir to coat the spaghetti well.
Step 8
Divide into 4 pasta bowls and top with a sprinkling of grated Pecorino and some freshly ground black pepper.

How do you know when this Spaghetti Amatriciana is cooked?
Sauté the bacon and onions for 10-15 minutes and then you should cook the sauce for this Spaghetti Amatriciana for around 15 minutes.
Cook the spaghetti according to the packet instructions – usually around 9-12 minutes.
