There are a few different theories on how this Asian fusion dish came to have the name ‘Drunken Noodles’, but one is that they’re so spicy that you’d need quite a few drinks to quench your thirst whilst eating it!
Our Drunken Noodles with Chicken is a slightly milder take on the traditional dish, but still has all of the flavours that you’d expect. We’ve used some chilli flakes and a chopped red chilli to give this recipe a little bit of a spicy kick, but you can definitely use less if you prefer your food milder. Similarly, if you love your food with some fire behind it then you can double the amount of chilli flakes and add another chopped red chilli – leave the chilli seeds in for maximum spice!
These Drunken Noodles with Chicken are so quick and easy to prepare which makes them the perfect Fakeaway to enjoy at the weekend as you’re not spending hours in the kitchen – in fact, the whole dish takes just 30 minutes to prep and cook!

Do you need any special ingredients to make these Drunken Noodles with Chicken?
You should be able to find Thai basil in your local supermarket, but if not then you can just use Italian basil instead. It’s just as good in terms of flavour, just slightly less fragrant!

This sounds delicious, will definitely be trying it. Just one thing, hubby doesn’t eat egg, if I leave it out, will be very runny? Should I use xanthan gum to thicken?
Thanks
Tracy
HollyWednesday 28th October 2020
Hi Tracy, you can omit the egg from this recipe and it will still taste great!

Can you use something else in place of oyster sauce and fish sauce? Both make me sick.
HollyMonday 2nd November 2020
Hi Valerie, you could try vegetarian fish sauce which has a much more subtle flavour and try hoisin sauce instead of the oyster sauce. It will alter the overall flavour of this recipe from what we have tested but it will mean you can still have a try at the recipe. Hope that helps!
