Honey-Glazed Ham
This Honey-Glazed Ham is utterly delicious and SO simple to prepare with just a few ingredients. The magic is in the sticky honey and mustard glaze, with a hint of Chinese 5 Spice to make things even tastier. Cook and carve it to serve on a bed of your favourite vegetables, and then save any leftovers to make your new favourite lunchtime sarnie – with a dollop of chutney for good measure!

Try a Sunday dinner that’s a little bit different with a gorgeous joint of sticky-coated Honey-Glazed Ham. You’ll absolutely love slicing into this one, especially if it’s served with a medley of your favourite colourful, roasted vegetables.
We’ve not just glazed our gammon in a dreamy combination of honey and mustard – you’ll also sprinkle in a hint of aromatic Chinese 5 Spice to take things up a notch. Hot or cold, every slice is full of succulent flavour.
Bear in mind that you may need to soak your gammon joint before cooking to remove excess salt. Most supermarket gammons don’t need soaking as they’re usually mildly cured. You can always check the packet instructions to see how the gammon was cured, or ask when you’re buying from your local butcher.
Pop it at the centre of the table carved and ready for a traditional roast with vegetables and gravy, or (our personal favourite) enjoy it with cheesy Loaded Potato Skins. You can even get creative with leftovers you stash in the fridge or freezer. If you’d rather leave your ham to cook for a few hours while you go about your day, our slow cooker method is here.

This Honey-Glazed Ham recipe is suitable for dairy-free and gluten-free diets.

Do you need any special ingredients to make Honey-Glazed Ham?
You’ve probably got most of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe.
Dig out the Chinese 5 Spice from your spice rack. It’s a powder blend of star anise, cinnamon, fennel seed, black pepper and cloves. You should spot it in the condiments aisle at most supermarkets, or on Amazon.

Step 1
Put the onion, carrot, celery, bay leaves and peppercorns in a medium saucepan. Remove all packaging from the gammon, place in the saucepan and add just enough cold water to cover.
Step 2
Cover with a lid and place over a high heat, bring to the boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently for 1 hour. Drain off the cooking liquid and vegetables. You can either discard both or strain the liquid, discard the vegetables and save to use as stock for future use. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Step 3
Place the well-drained gammon joint in an ovenproof dish or roasting tin. In a small bowl, mix the honey, mustard and Chinese 5 spice powder together until smooth. Spoon half of the glaze all over the top and sides of the gammon, spreading it over with the back of the spoon.
Step 4
Place the glazed gammon in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, until the glaze becomes sticky. Remove from the oven and spread the remaining glaze all over the gammon, then return to the oven for a further 10 minutes, until the glaze is sticky and slightly caramelised.
Step 5
Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This will make it easier to slice. Serve hot or cold with an accompaniment of choice.

Hi, I like the Gammon recipe but the only problem is I really don’t like Chinese Five Spice, or indeed any aniseed flavours! So I was wondering if there was another seasoning you could suggest? I did consider using smoked paprika but I’m not sure the Dijon mustard would go with that? Would be interested to hear from you, many thanks,

Hey Lynne, you could omit the pinch of Chinese 5 Spice and the recipe will still be great without it hope that helps!
