One of our favourite holiday dishes to choose in a restaurant is a simple Caprese salad, and it turns out, the same flavours turn some plain pasta into a thing of beauty! 

Some good tomatoes, good cheese and a bit of greenery makes for a fantastic plate of food.

This Caprese Pasta is the perfect meal to treat yourself to a few really good quality ingredients – a little of something good, really does go a long way!

There are no fancy schmancy gadgets involved in this Caprese Pasta – as always, we’d recommend a good quality frying pan, and you can pick one up from Amazon!

How many Syns are in this Caprese Pasta?

This Caprese Pasta is Syn free if you use one of your daily Healthy Extra A allowances for the reduced fat mozzarella! If you wanted to Syn the cheese then it would work out as 6 Syns per portion.

How Weight Watchers friendly is this Caprese Pasta recipe?

This Caprese Pasta isn’t the most Weight Watchers friendly dish, but could be easily adaptable to reduce the amount of Points – you could use half pasta and replace the other half with ribbons of courgette or carrot!

Alternatively, you could replace some of the pasta with some steamed vegetables – asparagus would be delicious!!

How to make this Syn Free Caprese Pasta

Step 1

Set oven to 200 degrees, coat the tomatoes in low calorie cooking spray, salt and pepper and roast for around 30 minutes. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn. 

Boil the pasta according to the packet instructions in salted water.

Step 2

Meanwhile, chop the onions, chilli and garlic very finely. Place in a frying pan and fry on a moderate heat in low calorie cooking spray.

Step 3

Once the onions have turned a golden colour, take off the heat. 

Step 4

Add the cooked pasta and roasted tomatoes to the onion mixture, adding the fresh basil also. Lightly mix until the ingredients are combined.

Step 5

Plate up, and add the mozzarella on top by tearing it into little pieces. Season and tuck in!

      The write up before the recipe states “Using your Healthy Extra A choice on the mozzarella, it’s completely syn free. Of course, it’s adaptable, less chilli means less spice if that isn’t your thing, or spend a couple of syns on some black olives, a great addition. As always, enjoy!”
