Syn Free Pumpkin Spiced Latte | Slimming World

Sadly the Starbucks PSL’s can cost you as many as 20 syns ???? so we thought we’d create our own Syn free Pumpkin Spiced Latte. It’s syn free if you use half your HEA or 3 syns if you don’t.

For the full list of ingredients and comprehensive instructions, please see the recipe card at the end of this post. Before you scroll, there’s important stuff in the blurb 👍

So we’re now into the Autumn season & that means 2 things. Leaves start falling from the trees and the world becomes infatuated with Pumpkin Spiced things!

As you will probably know Slimming World have brought out some new recommendations regarding the syn value of granulated sweeteners. Slimming World have confirmed what this change means.

Where there is 1 tbsp or more being used per serving they recommend members count 0.5 Syn per tbsp. If using smaller amounts, like a pinch or teaspoon, there’s no need to worry about Syns at all.

The recipe for this Syn Free Pumpkin Spiced Latte uses sweetener to taste (0.5 -2 tablespoons) so it is recommended you add 0.5 syns on to the whole recipe, making it 0.5 syns per portion, if you use over 1 tablespoon of sweetener.

As always it’s not our place to tell you whether you should follow these recommendations and syn the sweetener, the decision and journey is yours and yours alone.

What is a Syn free Pumpkin Spiced Latte?

I discovered the ‘PSL’ on a business trip to the US a few years ago, I remember looking at my colleague and thinking to myself – pumpkin in coffee – this isn’t going to work! But to my surprise it really does. It’s a bit like pumpkin pie, only in a coffee. My idea of heaven!

We could have taken a shortcut and just bought a Pumpkin Spiced sugar free syrup from Amazon (like this one), but we’re not keen on the taste of artificial sweeteners. You can use them of course if you’re stuck for time!

Making your PSL this way, you can control everything about it; the strength of the coffee, the sweetness, more or less of the pumpkin, and the amount of mixed spice. Not to mention, if you make it this way you’re actually using speed food in your drink!

Pumpkins will be in season real soon, but in the meantime you can use butternut squash – don’t worry, it tastes just as nice and the preparation is a little easier to manage.

Making the puree is super simple. Just chop and pop in the microwave then attack with a stick blender or in a food processor. If you’re partial to a PSL or two, you can make some puree and keep it in the fridge. Keep it covered and it’ll last about a week.

Steaming the Milk

The easiest of which is to heat the puree up with the milk & some sweetener in the microwave. Then use a milk frother to froth the milk and drop your shot of coffee in, and it’ll look really pretty!

The other way would be to steam the milk and puree using the steam arm on your coffee maker, then add  your coffee. It’s entirely up to you!

  1. Hiya – can I just check I’ve got the recipe right? there is a shot of coffee in the purée mixture itself, as well as in the drink when you make it?

  2. I have 3 large pumpkins (only one carved on Halloween) my 3 teens wanted them, I ended up carving one. I’ve pureed the flesh so it’s great to see these pumpkin recipes. Going to make the pumpkin cake for taster tomorrow. Can’t wait to try the spiced pumpkin latte – going on amazon now to get a milk frother lol
