So we’re now into the Autumn season & that means two things. Leaves start falling from the trees and the world becomes infatuated with Pumpkin Spiced things!

What is a Pumpkin Spiced Latte?

I discovered the Pumpkin Spiced Latte, or ‘PSL’,  on a business trip to the US a few years ago, I remember looking at my colleague and thinking to myself – pumpkin in coffee – this isn’t going to work! But to my surprise it really does. It’s a bit like pumpkin pie, only in a coffee. My idea of heaven!

As delicious as the Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte is, it is hard to enjoy if you are trying to lose weight. Our lightened up version has all the tasty autumnal flavours without the guilt!

How many calories is this Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe?

Our Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe is 109 calories per serving.

A grande Pumpkin Spiced Latte with whipped cream from Starbucks is an eye watering 380 calories, over 3 times as much!

How Slimming World Friendly is this Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe?

A Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte can cost you as many as 20 Syns!

Our version is Syn Free if you use half of one Healthy Extra A choice, or 3 Syns if you don’t.

As you will probably know Slimming World have brought out some new recommendations regarding the Syn value of granulated sweeteners. Slimming World have confirmed what this change means.

Where there is 1 tbsp or more being used per serving they recommend members count 0.5 Syn per tbsp. If using smaller amounts, like a pinch or teaspoon, there’s no need to worry about Syns at all.

The recipe for this Syn Free Pumpkin Spiced Latte uses sweetener to taste (0.5 -2 tablespoons) so it is recommended you add 0.5 syns on to the whole recipe, making it 0.5 Syns per portion, if you use over 1 tablespoon of sweetener.

As always it’s not our place to tell you whether you should follow these recommendations and Syn the sweetener, the decision and journey is yours and yours alone.

How Weight Watchers friendly is this Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe?

There are only 2 Points in our Pumpkin Spiced Latte recipe. The Starbucks version with whip is a minimum of 5 Points. You could have 2 of ours instead and still have a Point to spare!

We could have taken a shortcut and just bought a Pumpkin Spiced sugar free syrup from Amazon (like this one), but we’re not keen on the taste of artificial sweeteners. You can use them of course if you’re stuck for time!

Making your Pumpkin Spiced Latte our way, you can control everything about it; the strength of the coffee, the sweetness, more or less of the pumpkin, and the amount of mixed spice. Not to mention, if you make it this way you’re actually using vegetables in your drink!

Pumpkins will be in season really soon, but in the meantime you can use butternut squash – don’t worry, it tastes just as nice and the preparation is a little easier to manage.

Making the puree is super simple. Just chop and pop in the microwave then attack with a stick blender or in a food processor. If you’re partial to a Pumpkin Spiced Latte or two, you can make some extra puree and keep it in the fridge. Keep it covered and it’ll last about a week.

Steaming the Milk

The easiest way to make this drink is to heat the puree up with the milk & some sweetener in the microwave. Then use a milk frother to froth the milk and drop your shot of coffee in, and it’ll look really pretty!

If you prefer, you could steam the milk and puree using the steam arm on your coffee maker, then add your coffee. It’s entirely up to you!

  1. Hiya – can I just check I’ve got the recipe right? there is a shot of coffee in the purée mixture itself, as well as in the drink when you make it?

  2. I have 3 large pumpkins (only one carved on Halloween) my 3 teens wanted them, I ended up carving one. I’ve pureed the flesh so it’s great to see these pumpkin recipes. Going to make the pumpkin cake for taster tomorrow. Can’t wait to try the spiced pumpkin latte – going on amazon now to get a milk frother lol
