9 Slimming-friendly Recipes You Can Make with Fat-free Greek Yoghurt
You’ll always find a pot of fat-free Greek yoghurt in our fridge. It’s one of those trusty ingredient staples that’s so versatile and simple to use, these 9 slimming-friendly dishes are just the tip of the iceberg (don’t worry, you can always go here to try more).
With a creamy texture and mild flavour, fat-free Greek yoghurt is a clever swap that’ll help you recreate sweet creams or savoury sauces, for a fraction of the calories. Plus, it’s utterly delicious on its own! You can’t beat a few dollops with a drizzle of reduced-sugar syrup and berries for a mid-afternoon snack or light dessert.
If you’ve already got some at home, or you’re thinking of adding a pot to your shopping list, we’ve got plenty of ideas to inspire your midweek menu below.
1. Raspberry Mocha Granola Pots
These Raspberry Mocha Granola Pots are so scrumptious, it’s like having dessert for breakfast. You’ll need fat-free Greek yoghurt to make the magic happen, since we’ve stirred it together with cocoa powder, maple syrup and espresso powder to prepare the irresistible chocolatey cream centre.
Shop-bought granolas can be sneakily high in sugar (and calories!), so we’ve made things lighter by baking cocoa-infused rolled oats in the oven.
When your homemade granola-style mix is ready, you’ll layer everything up with a topping of cream and fresh raspberries.
2. Turkish-Style Eggs
You’ve not used fat-free Greek yoghurt to its full potential until you’ve tried our Turkish-Style Eggs. Inspired by a dish called Cilbir that’s normally served over a rich, full-fat sauce, our version cuts the calories by swirling slimming-friendly yoghurt together with garlic granules, salt and pepper.
The garlicky yoghurt and rich yolk of the poached egg perfectly cut through the spice of the smoky harissa paste we’ve drizzled through. Serve this with warm crusty bread to mop up all those flavours…you won’t want to leave a single drop behind!
3. Saag Aloo Fritters
Fat-free Greek yoghurt always has a place at a curry-night feast, next to spicy bites like our lovely little Saag Aloo Fritters. Whether you serve a batch of fritters to the side, or snack on them throughout the day (hot or cold!), they’re a gorgeous savoury nibble.
We’ve packed them with lots of colourful fresh veg, and mild, fragrant spices, keeping them nice and light at 45 calories per fritter.
Forget about shop-bought sauces – you’ll dunk them in our homemade mint-infused yoghurt instead.
4. Chicken Bhuna
We couldn’t talk about fat-free Greek yoghurt without including a curry on the list! It’s a key ingredient in the marinade for our Chicken Bhuna, where we like to let the spices soak in overnight before we get cooking.
When the curry itself is almost ready to serve, we’ll stir a few dollops of fat-free Greek yoghurt into the sauce, to make it even richer and creamier without piling on the calories.
This one-pot wonder is delightfully simple to make, and you won’t have to worry about piles of washing-up afterwards.
5. Creamy Tagliatelle with Roasted Vegetables
Say hello to your new-favourite summer pasta! This Creamy Tagliatelle with Roasted Vegetables is a firm favourite in our house. Roasting the vegetables in the oven brings out so much flavour, and you can be busy making the rest of the dish while they’re cooking.
We’ve used a lower-calorie dream team of fat-free Greek yoghurt and reduced-fat cream cheese to make the sauce taste far more luxurious than it is.
Once it’s all mixed together, you’re left with a creamy, cheesy, light dish that works with any dried pasta from your cupboards.
6. Banoffee Cheesecake
What’s not to love about Banoffee Cheesecake? Even with the moreish crunch from our oven-baked biscuit base, every slice is creamy and light at just 275 calories.
We’ve swirled fat-free Greek yoghurt together with reduced-fat cream cheese and sweeteners to whip up the velvety centre. The fun starts when it comes to decorating! Add sliced bananas and reduced-sugar caramel dessert topping until you’re happy.
You can also get as creative as you’d like with alternative fruits and sweeteners. Just be sure to adjust any calories accordingly, if you’re counting!
7. Cream Tea Scones
You won’t find lashings of full-fat cream in our Cream Tea Scones. Instead, we’ve kept the British summertime staple tasting just as terrific using a clever blend of reduced-fat ingredients.
Stir fat-free Greek yoghurt together with icing sugar, until you’re left with a decadent-tasting ‘cream’. Then, you’ll spoon a small amount over the jam inside each one.
Top your scones with half a strawberry, and you’re left with a delightful, Wimbledon-worthy treat, for only 93 calories per cake.
8. Strawberry Cheesecake Frozen Yoghurt
If you didn’t know fat-free Greek yoghurt freezes like a dream, you do now! Our Strawberry Cheesecake Frozen Yoghurt always brings the taste of summer, rain or shine.
So much more slimming friendly than ice cream alternatives, and just as satisfyingly creamy, you’ll never need to dash for the ice cream van again.
We’ve made sure this fruity recipe is really easy to put together, and you can stash it away for months, saving you time and money whenever you fancy a quick, frozen sweet treat.
9. Biscoff Mousse
It’s no secret that Biscoff is a hit in our household! These light and airy Biscoff Mousse pots are the perfect end to any meal, and chances are you’ve already got most of the super short ingredients list in your fridge.
The trick is to fold fat-free Greek yoghurt into the mixture of low-fat double cream and Biscoff spread until everything’s blended, without knocking any air out.
The hardest part is resisting for half an hour, while your little pots of heaven chill in the fridge. Serve with crushed Biscoff biscuit crumbs on top for an unmissable caramel crunch!
