These tasty Prawn Bites couldn’t be easier! Ready in just 15 minutes, they’re exactly what your fakeaway night has been missing. They have all the same prawn, ginger, garlic, soy and sesame flavours as prawn toast from the Chinese-style takeaway, but with far fewer calories!
Instead of deep-frying bread, we’ve loaded our prawn topping onto soft tortilla wraps, which get nice and golden after just a few minutes in the pan. Serve them with a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce, and add all your favourite Chinese-inspired dishes on the side.
For just 38 calories each, they’re perfect with a selection of other dim sum style recipes, or as a bite of extra flavour with your main meal.
What diets are these Prawn Bites suitable for?
This recipe is suitable for dairy-free diets. You can make Prawn Bites gluten free if you were to simply switch the tortilla wraps and soy sauce for suitable gluten-free alternatives.
As always, please take extra care when cooking for people with allergies and be sure to use different utensils, cookware and preparation areas.
Do you need any special ingredients to make Prawn Bites?
Nope! You’ll need a stick blender or food processor to make your prawn paste, and we also recommend using a fish slice to remove the bites from the pan.

Step 1
Place the prawns, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and egg white in a food processor, or use a stick blender, to blitz into a smooth paste. Stir in the spring onions.
Step 2
Place half of the sesame oil in a large non-stick frying pan, spread around evenly using a piece of kitchen paper, and place over a medium heat. When the pan is hot, add one tortilla wrap and fry for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden on the underside.
Step 3
Using the back of a dessert spoon, spread half of the prawn paste evenly over the top of the tortilla wrap, leaving a 1cm gap around the edge. Sprinkle over half of the sesame seeds and press down lightly.
Step 4
Turn the tortilla wrap over using a fish slice and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the prawn paste is cooked, pink and slightly puffy.
Step 5
Remove the prawn tortilla from the pan using a fish slice and cut into eight triangles. Repeat this process to cook the second prawn tortilla, drizzle the triangles with sweet chilli sauce and serve immediately.
What could I serve with these Prawn Bites?

If you have any leftovers, then make sure that you allow them to cool before popping them in a container with a lid and refrigerating. Leftover Prawn Bites can be kept in the fridge for 1-2 days.
Can I freeze Prawn Bites?
No, we don’t recommend freezing this recipe. It’ll taste best when it’s freshly made.
