Picture the scene: cosying down on the sofa after an indulgent Indian takeaway with all the trimmings including Seekh Kebabs. Full of calories and fat, it’s not the ideal dinner if you’re following a slimming plan like Weight Watchers! They’re one of our favourite Indian starters, but they’re also great as a side dish. With our juicy lean Seekh Kebabs, there’s no need to miss out!
Made with 5% fat beef mince, our kebabs are much lower in fat than their takeaway counterparts, and are super versatile. Delicious on their own, but you could try eating in a wrap with crispy salad for a speedy lunch. You could even pop them on the BBQ for a change to the traditional burgers and sausages!
We love that this recipe is quite fun to make: get the kids involved in kneading and shaping their own kebabs before popping in the oven. If you like your Seekh Kebabs with a bit more of a kick, you can use hot chilli powder in the recipe, or use a mild powder for a spiced flavour without as much heat.

How many calories are in these Seekh Kebabs?

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 220°C.
Step 2
Add the mince, onions, garlic, ginger, coriander, mint, cumin and chilli powder to a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. With clean hands, knead until the mixture is combined.
Step 3
Line a baking tray with foil and spray with low calorie cooking spray.
Step 4
Split the mix into 6 and shape long sausages out of it. If you are using skewers you can shape them around these.
Step 5
Place the kebabs onto the foil, spray the tops with low calorie cooking spray and place into the oven for 10 minutes. Then flip them over and cook on the other side for another 10 minutes.
Step 6
Serve with an accompaniment of your choice.

Can I cook Seekh Kebabs any other way?
Yes! Pop the shaped kebabs on a hot BBQ for around 15 minutes. Always be sure to cut and check that they’re cooked throughout first, as heat over coals can vary.
How long can you keep these Seekh Kebabs in the fridge?
Once you’ve put it out, ideally you should eat it within 4 hours.
If you allow any leftovers to cool, make sure to refrigerate in a container with a lid and chill.
You can keep leftovers of Seekh Kebabs in the fridge for approximately 3 days or so.
Can I freeze Seekh Kebabs?
Yes you can! This recipe can be frozen, but please remember to do the following;
- Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough.
- Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
Don’t forget to add a label with what it is, and on what date you put it in the freezer!
How do I reheat Seekh Kebabs?
From chilled: Reheat in the microwave for 4-7 minutes until piping hot.
From frozen: Allow to defrost thoroughly in the fridge overnight, and heat from chilled.

Hi Heldel, yes the Seekh Kebabs can be cooked on a barbecue. Place on a hot barbecue for around 15 minutes, but make sure to cut one open to check that they’re cooked throughout as heat over barbecues can vary. There should be no sign of pinkness, the juices should run clear and the kebabs should be piping hot throughout.

The recipe notes say that you can use mild or hot curry powder depending on taste but there is no curry powder in the recipe!
