Do you need any special ingredients to make Sweet Chilli Sauce?

This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.

First, you’ll need a fine grater and we’ve used our snazzy Deiss grater!  It’s great (pardon the pun) for grating not only cheese, but also garlic, onions, ginger, anything really!

You’ll also need some xanthan gum which is a thickener that works a bit like cornflour – but you only need to add a little!  When we say a little, we mean that you’ll only need to use 1/4 tsp xanthan gum in place of 1 tbsp cornflour.

Last but not least, if you don’t have a glass jar to store this in then you may want to grab something like this Kilner Clip Top Jar from Amazon.

Want a Deiss grater? You can grab one over on Amazon  How fab is that?! Just be careful when you’re using it, you don’t want to Deiss with death (we’ll get our coat and see ourselves out…).

Tried to make this sauce twice now and still can’t get rid of the vinegar after taste. I’ve had it simmering for 10 min and still there. Is there anything else to try?
Advice welcome

    LisaThursday 27th August 2020

Hi Tash, If it is too vinegary for your taste, I’d suggest replacing half the amount of vinegar with water. Hope this helps!

PetrinaThursday 20th February 2020

Hi If I marinated chicken in this yummy sauce and cooked it in the oven would it work? Like sweet chilli chicken?

    Holly LevellTuesday 26th May 2020

Hi Petrina, yes this would work cooked with chicken just be careful it doesn’t burn whilst cooking. Hope that helps!

Rosemarie R.WangTuesday 3rd September 2019

I love this recipe. Can it be frozen?

    Emma TThursday 19th September 2019

    Hi Rosemarie,

We’ve not tried freezing it, I’m not sure it would work as it may become gloopy when defrosted.

    Hope that helps!

Hi, I have made this today but have had to add another tablespoon.of sweetener, the recipe states 1.5 tbsp but further down in blue you say it takes 2.5 which is correct.

    Hi Zoe,

It might need reducing a little more to burn off the vinegar taste ????
